there's a post where someone said "can you respect trans women who look like men" and someone responded something like "hell yeah I love people who fuck with gender!" and like... yeah that's cool, but in a lot of spaces "trans woman who looks like a man" is a lot less likely to be someone who is intentionally comfortably presenting masculine, and a lot more likely to be a girl who hasn't started transition, or can't safely, or just didn't or couldn't put in the effort to pass as fem today, and a lot of them will just look like schlubby dudes and not a radically presenting queer person. and you should be able to respect that.

Side note but this lady has such a weird conflicting set of takes in this article. She says transphobia is a real obstacle for the kids involved, but also apparently believes that most trans kids are faking it for attention—which is a wildly transphobic thing to claim.

How she can hold both of those beliefs simultaneously is genuinely puzzling to me. The only explanation I can conceive of is that she understands transphobia exists, but hasn’t done literally any thinking on the subject past that point. Weird shit.

The idea of "Binary Trans Women" being a category of person that meaningfully exists and possesses relative privilege makes sense if you view gender as a purely internal individualist concept and transphobia as motivated by "People hate it when you deviate from the norm, and the more you deviate the worse they hate you". But by analysing gender in terms of social relations and recognising transphobia as a product of broader patriarchal ideology, you realise that "Binary Trans Women" is a nonsense term that's only useful for justifying transmisogyny without sounding generally transphobic
