13 reasons why characters sorted into Hogwarts houses

Gryffindor

Clay Jensen

Clay might not be your average Gryffindor - he is socially awkward, introverted and doesn't easily make friends. However, he stands up for Hannah and he always tries to do what is right. He is also very impulsive and acts on his emotions, which is also a Gryffindor trait.

Jessica Davis

Jessica is outgoing, popular and, most importantly, she is brave enough to stand up to Bryce and talk about what happened to her. Just like Clay, she can be reckless and acts upon her feelings.

Tony Padilla

Tony could also be a Hufflepuff, because he is extremely loyal to Hannah and he is there for Clay and the others while they listen to the tapes, but I decided to put him in Gryffindor because he strongly believes in doing what is right and making his own justice, even by using violence.

Alex Standall

I put Alex in Gryffindor because he believes in doing the right thing and is not afraid to stand up for what is right. When he hears the tapes and finds out that he is responsible for Hannah's suicide, he tries to make up for what he has done to her. He also acts very impulsive and reckless at times, for example when he starts a fight with Montgomery.

Cyrus

Cyrus is very rebellious and I could definitely see him in Slytherin. However, he does what he does because he believes in doing the right thing, not because he wants to get ahead in life. Also, he is very protective of Mackenzie.

Nina Jones

I decided to put Nina in Gryffindor because just like Jessica, she is brave enough to talk about her past and to move on. In the end, when she burns the polaroids, she acts solely on her emotions and doesn't think about the consequences that her actions might have for the other victims.

Ravenclaw

Ryan Shaver

I wanted to put Ryan in Slytherin for going behind Hannah's back when he publishes her poem, but I finally decided to put him in Ravenclaw since he is very creative and interested in poetry. Moreover, he eventually regrets how he treated Hannah and he even tries to defend her when he talks about her in court.

Mackenzie

Mackenzie is intelligent and creative and she is not afraid to say what is on her mind. I really wanted to put her in Hufflepuff because she is very sweet and caring, but she seems more Ravenclaw to me. And also, I needed some Ravenclaws.

Skye Miller

Skye is very wise and intelligent and she understands a lot about the world and the people around her. Even though she appears cold and uncaring on the outside, she cares deeply about the ones she loves and she has a very strong morality. She is also very unique and she doesn't care what others think about her.

Mr Porter

Mr Porter is a very intelligent man and he knows that he has made a mistake and does everything to make up for it. I wanted to put him in Gryffindor at first because it was very brave of him to confront Bryce and stand up to Seth and honestly, there us no good reason why I didn't except that I needed someone else I could put in Ravenclaw.

Hufflepuff

Hannah Baker

Hannah can be very emotional and she tends to push people away, but is actually a very nice person and a loyal friend.

Zach Dempsey

Even though he is friends with people like Bryce and Justin, Zach is a very kind and loyal person. When Hannah gets sexually assaulted by Marcus, he comes back and takes care of her. While stealing Hannah's letters was not a very Hufflepuff thing to do, Zach clearly regrets what he has done: he apologizes to Hannah and even keeps the letter she wrote to him. Also, he is very loyal to Alex and helps him recover from his suicide attempt.

Sheri Holland

Sheri is definitely a Hufflepuff. She is very nice and sweet to everyone around her and while she tries to hide her role in Jeff's accident at first, she eventually turns herself in and she even takes care of the other man who was involved in the accident and befriends him, which shows that she is genuinely sorry for what she has done.

Jeff Atkins

Jeff Atkins is probably the most Hufflepuff character on the show. He is a true friend to Clay and helps him get closer to Hannah, even though Clay is not a popular kid and is often ridiculed by other students. He is kind, reliable and incredibly good-hearted and I think we can all agree that he deserved better.

Kat

~

Kat is only a minor character in the show, but still we find out that she is a very loyal friend to Hannah: she even throws a party for Hannah before she leaves to make sure Hannah makes some new friends. She is also very outgoing and she is kind to everyone around her.

Slytherin

Marcus Cole

Marcus is incredibly cunning and ambitious and he would stop at absolutely nothing to get what he wants. He lies in court and even constructs a whole plan to convince people that Hannah is lying on the tapes to avoid getting in trouble and facing the consequences for his actions. When he is blackmailed by Tyler and Cyrus, he doesn't hesitate to betray Bryce.

Bryce Walker

Do I need to explain? Bryce is a selfish and horrible person who has absolutely no regard for other people's feelings. He is incredibly manipulative and manages to convince people that he is innocent for a very long time and he even lies in court to avoid facing the consequences for what he has done to Hannah, Jessica and so many other girls. I really tried not to put all the bad guys in Slytherin, but I just can't imagine him in any other house.

Montgomery De La Cruz

Just like Bryce, Montgomery is a horrible person who doesn't care about other people's feelings at all. He is extremely violent and is often shown bullying and intimidating other students: he plays an important role in spreading the rumour about Hannah and Courtney, he threatens Alex and many other students in order to stop them from openly talking about Hannah and the tapes in court and he brutally attacks Tyler in the final episode. I just couldn't put him in any other house than Slytherin.

Courtney Crimsen

Courtney might come across as nice and sweet, but she is actually incredibly shrewd. She is the one who decides to set a trap for Tyler and she does not hesitate to throw Hannah under the bus to save herself.

Justin Foley

I wanted to put Justin in Gryffindor at first, but then decided to put him in Slytherin because he allows Bryce to rape Jessica and lies to her about it for a long time. It can also be seen that he is ready to go to extreme measures to hide that he and his friends are responsible for Hannah's suicide

~

Chloe Rice

Chloe is a popular girl and she would do anything to stay popular. This is also one of the reasons why she stays with Bryce and protects him even when she knows that Hannah is telling the truth on the tapes. She even steals pictures of Jessica and hangs them up in a classroom to scare her into not talking about what Bryce did to her. I can understand why she did what she did, but I still think the fact that she chose to save herself before she thought about helping Jessica puts her in Slytherin.

Tyler Down

Even though Tyler is a victim in many ways, he himself also acts selfish and cruel on many occasions: he stalks Hannah and takes photos of her without her consent and destroys her friendship with Courtney by spreading the photo he took of them kissing. He also insults Mackenzie and betrays Cyrus. In the final episode, he even attempts to commit a school shooting.
