Costume designer Quita Alfred joins FIDM Museum Curator Kevin Jones for a Q&A about her work on Women Talking, directed by Sarah Polley. The film is about women of an isolated religious community who must grapple with reconciling a brutal reality with their faith. Women Talking stars Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, and Frances McDormand. _________________________________________________________________________ About Our Guest, Quita Alfred: Costume designer Quita Alfred hails from Manitoba, Canada, and has spent over 35 years in the film industry. Her interests in anthropology, psychology, art history, and architecture influence her work. Having spent many years traveling, Quita became interested in the stories that people’s outer layers told about them. She is particularly drawn to projects that allow a deep dive into character development and all its idiosyncratic, subtle, and sometimes perversely fascinating beauty. Quita studied Theatre Production at Ryerson University in Toronto (now Toronto Metropolitan University), and is known for her impressive work on The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Big Hit, and Dream House. About Your Host, Kevin Jones: Kevin Jones is the curator of the FIDM Museum, overseeing a 15,000-piece historic fashion collection. Before joining the FIDM Museum, Kevin was at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He curates exhibitions on diverse topics, from Hollywood to high-fashion, including co-curating the Richard Martin Award-winning exhibition, catalogue, and documentary High Style: Betsy Bloomingdale and the Haute Couture. The exhibition Sporting Fashion: Outdoor Girls 1800 to 1960 opened at The Frick Pittsburgh in July 2021, and is travelling to venues across the United States before debuting in a larger format at the FIDM Museum in 2024. The accompanying catalogue is available to order through Amazon.com.
