There are a few people I have met recently who I feel I owe something, a new perspective. But it’s a gentle connection, an invisible hand on the back to show them a new way to live in the world. A part of me that can’t really speak right now is getting sharper and sharper at perception. It’s all very moment to moment but yesterday I thought mostly of my breathing and felt immersed in such extreme ecstasy all day long.

I love many things about Christianity and Judaism but there is something about islamic prayer, not a bias on my end, but something really raw about islamic prayer and Quran recitation. I find myself avoiding both at times because I know it will reduce me to tears and full body sobs. But my body will never forget how to pray and sometimes a random urge comes. This week I did. The motions, the way the body tingles, I can feel everything everywhere at once in that moment. Even the smells of a masjid no matter where I am in the world leaves me with the feeling of truth. What lives in the body is what is most honest I think. Recitations, collective chants, ritualistic movements, it’s all the perfect way to remind us of what we actually are. It’s less about this inaccurate depiction of god that the Abrahamic religions attach themselves to and it’s more about reminding yourself that you are both nothing and everything in the face of “god”.

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"
