So I've been returning a bit to some of my childhood interests, including PJO lately, and it got ke thinking how and why I enjoy Percico as much as I do
And I think the shortest explanation is this line from the Percico fanfic I always end up rereading whenever I think about PJO again:
He often wondered if Nico also hears the earth calling out to him. Begging him to crush it into submission beneath his feet, then lift it up with the power of his mind, feeling his heart flutter in his chest as if he were more alive than ever before. If he feels the shadows running through his veins, if he can see death in everything around him. If he thinks that if he uses his powers to the extreme, he will lose control. If he feels a forbidden urge to lose control.
Now for the long explanation...
I think the inherent tragedy of being a demigod in the PJO universe is that you'll always be stuck between the two worlds.
If you desire the divine, you have to remember that you are walking a hero's path in the modern age. A lonely road, unseen to the mortal eye and with little laurels from the Gods, when no amount of effort you dedicate guarantees you a happy ending
If you desire the humane, you can never enjoy a moment without looking over your shoulder, without remembering there's some part of you skewed differently. And that part cowers in fear of the world you can't integrate into, it stares in hubris...or maybe even in hunger
And I think about Hades' and Poseidon's domains. How other they are to us compared to Zeus'.
I think about how calming and relaxing the beach can seem in relation to the skies, but at the same time how much more likely you are to die on the sea than in a plane crash
I think about how much closer to us the sea seems compared to the sky, but how in actuality we've 'tamed' the sky all the way up to the cosmos while the sea depths below remain unknown
I think about how inevitable yet mistifying death is, how much easier it is to measure and anticipate the changes in nature than our own mortality. How of the three, the sky is the most predictable
I think about how both the Underworld and the Sea are about unaccessible places
And then I think about Percico, the struggle to be a normal person when their fathers' domains flow through their veins
Their crossing of lines.
Surviving Tartarus.
Percy torturing a Goddess in her own element.
Nico banishing a person from the realm of the living.
The shocked reactions of their divine world companions to these abilities. Their own uncertainty in the face of these events.
How does it feel to be even less human than the rest of the inhumane?

My most Crack semi-Percico thought came into my dreams last night, where Nico was for some unknown reason trapped into the Underworld by Hades and Percy decided to Uno Reverse card the man by kidnapping his son back to the surface and marrying him ala Persephone
Hades was beyond furious with his insolence, however Demeter was so pleased that he got a taste of his own medicine that she decided to make Percy her champion and forever bless him with crops during agriculture season
And so the dream ended with the Jackson-Di Angelo couple always having way too much flour for the amount of pizza they want and can make in the kitchen

So I'm in a Sebaciel lovechild mood thanks to @lisyonokk , so I thought it'd be fun to write down some of my headcanons
They are the complete opposite of their parents personality wise. An absolute sweetheart, wouldn't intentionally hurt a fly. Sebastian and Ciel are not sure how they created such a child instead of the antichrist
They are also insanely powerful and they have little control over their abilities which has led to more than one troublesome occasion for the family
Sometimes the child seems to display supernatural abilities atypical for a demon and neither Sebastian or Ciel are able to figure out where they come from. Until they later discover Undertaker's relation to Ciel, and they realise it must come from the Shinigami genes
I think it would be interesting for the child to be genderfluid. Sebastian doesn't care since demons don't understand gender the way humans do anyway and Ciel doesn't care since he is too busy doing paperwork.
But it does become difficult to explain when people visit the manor multiple times and at one point the child is a girl and at other times a boy. Eventually they start pretending it's twins running around who are too shy to show up in public and that is why you never see them together
Speaking of pretending, they pass the child (eventually children) as being Sebastian's. It would put too many eyes on them if Ciel were to claim the child as his and would surely cause scandal. Instead they pretend Sebastian had some whirlwind romance where the mother died in childbirth and the lord of the house oh so generously allowed the child of his greatest servant to live with them.
Much to their surprise almost no one seems to suspect a thing about the child's origin and otherworldy nature. The sole exceptions are Sieglinde, who is too enamoured with the entire situation to be a threat to them and Edward, who almost got whisked to an insane asylum the last time he treid to make such an "outlandish claim"
Ironically enough, the child dislikes both cats AND sweets. Sebastian & Ciel almost had an aneurysm the day they found out
There's definitely some angst in the future as the child grows to realise they feel alienated from both humans and supernatural entities with their only safe space being their parents' relationship which is doomed to crumble due to the contract anyway :))

Crack AU where Ciel ends up transported in Hell with no explanation.
Him being there interferes with the contract's seal, so Sebastian can't sense where he is for the very first time. Naturally, he reacts in a reasonable manner by freaking out so much he turns the country upside down in his search.
Meanwhile Ciel is having the time of his life by criticising other demons for their lackluster choices in torture devices and runing Hell as his new management project.

I am a big fan of the Undertaker is Ciel's grandfather theory, if nothing else at least for how hilarious it makes him for always being on Sebastian's case
"Why would a beast such as yourself play the part of butler?" -> Says the guy acting like a simple mortician and interacting with his family in this capacity
"You only make him miserable" -> Projecting much?
"You sure are attached to this Phantomhive playing the role of Watchdog haha" -> Like you are one to talk...

I've had this AU idea for a while about Sebastian choosing not to take Ciel's soul and disappearing off the face of the Earth.
Upon realising his feelings at the last possible moment Sebastian puts a big show in a pathetic attempt to distance himself from them by claiming Ciel's soul was not as delactable as he initially imagined and there's no point in feasting upon a rotten meal.
So he leaves, behind him an empty boy with no purpose but anger growing like a disease.
For the next couple of years he goes through the motions expected of him from society all while in the background obsesses over anything occult and demonic, vowing he will have his revenge against Sebastian even of it is upon his death bed when his soul embarks for hell.
Then one day a series of mysterious disappearances plague London and leave not just the Police, but the Rippers baffled too. As not only are the circumstances impossible to determine, the location of the souls in question is unknown.
Ciel is met with resentment from both sides, neither believing he has good intentions or outright accusing him of being involved. He wished he was in on it, if only so he could understand the point in this whole scheme.
Through it all, Ciel still needs to keep face however. He does so by attending another borish ball, but when a friend of Lizzy's introduces her all too familiar fiance to the the ton, Ciel, well,...doesn't take it well.
Bascially, coming down to the question of how would things look if Ciel and Sebastian were on opposite sides?
