Taking a step forward, Jean felt the energy rising inside of her, the volume of her voice following. ❝ I don’t care what you told me. If you had of been paying attention and had my back, it would have worked! ❞ Usually, the pair were a well oiled machine, they needed little communication to know what each other were thinking - with a little help from her telepathic abilities. Today however, something was off between them. She stood there, fists clenched at her sides as she tried to keep herself calm. Even if he was frustrating at the moment, Alby was her special to her. She would never forgive herself if she hurt him.

alby knew he wasnt the only one struggling to control everything going on around them, he’d spent enough late nights with jean to know that, but sometimes he felt as though she didn’t take him seriously. she wasn’t the only one fighting against something. “you took an opening and that was stupid,” he countered, “you were being reckless! you can’t take whatever opening you see.” alby stood his ground, is temper rising as their conversation progressed. normally, he’d consider himself a pretty even tempered person, but sometimes trainings went poorly and he found himself needing to defend himself. 

“i always have your back, but i cant keep up if you change shit at the last minute.”

alby clenches and unclenches his fists, sighing. normally he loved flexing his powers to their limits, but today he was getting frustrated. “we have to come at this one way,” he argued, “i’ve got like 4 things going on in my head right now.” he waved at the spaces around them, which, outside of simulation seemed bare. he and jean were a team that came in strong and, on most days, worked like practiced gears -- but today things were not working out. “i told you not to go head on!”

❝ I’m not trying to, Alby! ❞ Green hues narrow as she looks up at the brunette from her spot on the ground where she’d been knocked over by a sentinel. Jean had thought that her partner was going to do one thing, and when he hadn’t, she was left exposed and swept right off her feet during the simulation. She tried to keep her emotions in check — it was needed if she was going to continue to training — but this was frustrating her. Her whole relationship with the phoenix surrounds her having control of her feelings. Sighing, she focuses on her breath for a moment before standing back up and brushing herself off.  ❝You know we have to be on the same page if this is going to work! ❞

alby was no stranger to nightmares. his first few years at xaviers had been filled with nights he longed to avoid. waking up sweaty and panicking, hoping for something to give him a sign that he was in the right place and not something of his own creation -- well, he just knew what it was like to not want to be in your own head anymore. he still had many nights where he chose to simply stay up instead. tonight was one of those. 

hearing jean cry out was enough to convince him to unlock her door and come to her side. “i was already up. tonight was looking like a sleepless one,” he explained, hoping to ease her guilt. he didn’t ever worry about jean hurting him, even if maybe he should. there was something about her that he related to. and if alby was being honest with himself, he figured he could combat anything she threw at him. “yah, but i think i can handle you.” his tone was light, almost joking, and he made himself comfortable next to her. “i trust you.”

❝ I was? I'm sorry — I didn't mean to wake you up.❞ Sitting up, Jean pushed her sweat dampened hair out of her face and took in a choppy deep breath. Would these nightmares that plagued her ever go away? As much as she wanted him to stay, tell her everything was going to be okay and hold her until she fell back asleep, his safety was more important than her needs. ❝ You don't have to, Alby. You know I'm unpredictable when I'm like this.❞

it makes me so sad when i see mlm and bi women call their attraction to men unfortunate and add disclaimers about how they know men are horrible. a sexuality shouldnt need a disclaimer. im sorry that radical feminism has brainwashed you into believing that your sexuality is less progressive and that male cruelty is an inherent and permanent trait in all men rather than a societal mindset that needs to be countered and overcome. gay men loving men is progressive. bisexuals loving men is progressive. straight trans women loving men is progressive and nbs in general loving men is progressive. there is nothing non-progressive about a non-cishet sexuality. loving men is a wonderful thing.
