also while i have robots on the brain. ive always thought its a little silly when media pulls "this robot wasnt built to be sentient but it glitched and now its a real boy!" but i do think itd be fun to do a variation like "this robot was built to be sentient but the ethics board were like 'hey i don't think we're allowed to sell things with thoughts and feelings' so the devs last minute commented out half of the code before launch day and now oops some of the bots have figured out how to access that part of their code again" . both slightly more plausable AND a lot funnier to imagine the absolute scandal it'd cause in the tech world.

Mozilla, in its finite wisdom, embedded LLM bots into recent versions of Firefox for the vitally-important purpose of鈥β爊aming tab groups. Now, some users are聽noticing CPU and power usage spikes聽caused by a background process called聽Inference.
Ugh. Reminder again for Firefox users to visit your about:config page, search for the browser.ml.chat.enabled key, and set that to false:
If yours says true then double-click it until it reads false.
Doing that turns off the AI chatbot features in Firefox, but also the stupid new LLM tab-naming feature that's rolling out.

sex pollen is an integral part of the fanfiction ecosystem but i just don't think poison ivy would make anything that encourages procreation of even more humans. unless she figures out how to make the sex pollen same-sex specific or fertility-negating she's not making it at all. #philosophical

To put it bluntly, the only way to end homelessness is to house people or kill them.
That's it. Those are your options. Homelessness doesn't go away based on "crime crackdowns." You will imprison the unhoused, and when they are free, they will be unhoused again. Or they will die in prison.
When you burn encampments or force people out without their stuff, they remain unhoused or freeze to death.
After working with the unhoused, it's become abundantly clear that those who don't want to support them instead want them dead.
There is blood on the hands of every government and organization that controls the homeless population with force instead of compassion.

Hello, all! I have officially queued all the remaining requests in the askbox, so...
The ask box is now open for requests! Please read the rules below before sending any in.
Here are the rules for submission:
State the film鈥檚 name, year of release, and (optionally) the director鈥檚 name in your submission. This is to ensure that the right film is used in the poll rather than one that shares the name.
Suggested films must be at least three years old. I鈥檇 like for polls to be focused on films that people have actually had time to see.
Please keep requests down to a maximum of two films or less per ask and do not send further asks/requests after that (until the askbox opens back up again.) If you request more than two films, your request will not be accepted.
Movies are allowed to be suggested a second time to have their poll redone. If a movie was polled already but received under 2,000 votes, you may suggest it again for a re-do. (Remember that you can view the list of every movie posted on this blog- including how many votes they received- here.)

The amount of shitty news coming out this week made me feel like this needed to be said, so.
For all the boys and young men currently afraid that being male means some kind of moral death sentence: the same world that produced Neil Gaiman and Donald Trump also produced Levar Burton, Steve from Blues Clues, and my (step)dad, who isn't famous but did look at a deeply traumatized child with a bunch of mental health issues and said "is anybody going to support that?" and then didn't wait for an answer. There are good men out there doing good work in ways both big and small. Choose to use your strength to help rather than hurt, your voice to speak for those who must be silent, and you can be one of them.
Be the man Mister Rogers knew you could be. He wasn't wrong very often, and he believed you could do wonderful things. I do too.
(Anyone clowning on here will summarily get their ass kicked and their blog blocked. Pain is pain and I know there are a lot of scared teenagers right now.)

The great thing about having friends and acquaintances across a variety of professions is to really hammer home as much as possible the fact there is literally zero correlation between the amount someone actually works, the amount they contribute to society, and how much they make in a year.

I really think we should stop saying "kid-friendly" and start saying "ad-friendly". We shouldn't indulge these companies and their excuses anymore. I also think that continuing to pretend that this is about "protecting the children" pushes a lot of the blame onto kids and teens, who don't have the political power to push through any of this censorship legislature. Corporations and governments are to blame.

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 馃檮" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
