Hii! Here I bring you another analysis of another scene from The Merciless, thank you very much for giving love to the first one, I appreciate it very much. I hope you like this one too. ^^ ♡
*Context of the scene: Jaeho is punishing Sunghan for being the one who ordered Jaeho's attempted murder in prison.
Frames:
(1st and 2nd) Hyunsoo: if we look closely, in this scene he is watching everything that happens, of course that is the mission he has been assigned to, to watch Jaeho, the man who Hyunsoo has just saved from a murder attempt, did he do it to make sure Jaeho would stay alive? Yes, because of the mission. Now he is watching how the man he has saved is pouring boiling water on the one who ordered Jaeho's murder. He is contemplating first-hand the worst version of Jaeho. He is dissociating but he's attentive too, very attentive to everything that happens, he doesn't miss a single detail.
(3rd) Jaeho: he's torturing this gang leader by pouring boiling water on him, he turns around and sees the man who just saved his life, Hyunsoo, he wonders why the hell did he do that? In his entire life, Jaeho has been betrayed many times, even his own mother tried to poison him when he was little, how could he trust that this boy saved him without any interest? How will this boy betray him in the future too?
(4th) Hyunsoo: this is the most important one, as Hyunsoo turns his head away from being "caught" looking at what Jaeho was doing at that man. Now he tries not to make any eye contact. What will Jaeho think about him? Hyunsoo is thinking the worst, Jaeho will end up killing him, or his mother, or he will torture him like he is doing with that man, or...But Jaeho finally tells him to go away, to wait outside, to not to see this.
*Honestly, in most of Hyunsoo and Jaeho's scenes, there is a lot of tension between them, but I would say this one is in the Top 5 and is very underrated. That anxiety and tension that Hyunsoo feels for having been caught watching by Jaeho but that surprise at having been "forgiven" by Jaeho and sent away, is a very intimate scene and key to the development of their relationship.
Colors:
Blue: blue or blueish tones tell us that the key character here is actually Hyunsoo. The colors of the scenes, whether it is Hyunsoo's blue or Jaeho's orange, if one of them predominates more in a scene, that is the designation of the protagonist of each one, in this case Hyunsoo. Those feelings of tension and anxiety of Hyunsoo are as if they explode and color the entire scene with his characteristic color.
Green: then, although blue is the predominant color in this scene, it blends with greenish tones, which is meant to make us understand that an act of corruption is being committed in this scene, this process of torture is corrupt and criminal, green is its color.
*The colors are literally telling us: "Hyunsoo is watching as an act of corruption is committed."
That's all the analysis of this scene from the movie The Merciless, directed by Byun Sung-hyun. Thank you very much for reading, hugs and kisses! ♡
(I accept criticism and more versions about this scene and the movie in general, thanks ^^)

This is one of my favorite scenes from The Merciless and I would like to analyze it because it conveys many messages that the Director wants to give us (and I, as a student of art history, could not resist). I hope you like it ^^
Colors:
(There are different colors in this scene that are important)
Green: is seen a lot in this movie and it always symbolizes the mafias world that are involved. It always appears in scenes of corruption and perversion, and in this scene it symbolizes the corruption that Jaeho has committed on the life of Hyunsoo's mother.
Blue: Jaeho is dressed in a blue suit, which is weird since he always wears suits with orange colors (since orange is the color that symbolizes Jaeho) (I will explain this later*)
Non-verbal language:
(The features and postures of the two characters on scene)
Hyunsoo: he is sitting backwards, with a tired, exhausted expression and a lost look, he is thinking, he is overthinking, at the same time he is seen with a look of "disbelief" at what he just found out of the man he said he really trusted.
Jaeho: on the contrary, he is sitting leaning forward, with his arms on the table and smiling, that is the worst, he is smiling, but it is a mocking one, a merciless one (I will also explain this in more depth later*)
More details*:
(Now I will give more details on the data that I have explained but in more depth)
Why is Jaeho dressed in a blue suit?: simple, because, actually, in this scene there are not two characters, but only Hyunsoo. I mean, that the color that symbolizes Hyunsoo is blue, so if Jaeho is dressed in blue it is because he is only a creation of the hurt and broken mind of Hyunsoo, at that moment.
Why is Jaeho smiling like that at Hyunsoo?: well, as I just said, it's Hyunsoo's imagination (I'm not saying that Jaeho isn't horrible in his own right), so Hyunsoo imagines Jaeho now like this, ruthless, cruel, etc. And this is after Jaeho having just told at Hyunsoo the Jaeho's famous phrase: "don't trust people, but circumstances", that's like even more of a mockery of the trust Hyunsoo had on Jaeho. This whole scene is self-inflicted harm to Hyunsoo himself.
That's all the analysis of this scene from the movie The Merciless, directed by Byun Sung-hyun. Thank you very much for reading, hugs and kisses! ♡
(I accept criticism and more versions about this scene and the movie in general, thanks ^^)
