June 24, one week old! Still have a ton of fry kicking around in there!
Betta Spawn Log: Goldie x Fleur de Nuit

6/10: Paired up, but female was kept jarred. This successful pairing was on the right.

6/12: They were introduced in the am.
6/14: Female was removed.
6/15: Possible development? It is a bit hard to tell if these are baby fish forming, or some kind of dirt under the bubble wrap. (Bubble wrap was there to give structure and support to the bubble nest. All males have used it readily.)

6/16: Fry!! So many fry!!

6/19: Yep there are still fry, like 200-300 of them! They are currently feeding on Walter Worms.

I'll continue to update in reblogs!

Hiding my son's books away bc my voice is hoarse from reading for 3 hours when he pulls out his alphabet and number fidget/popper. God dang it.
(I'm reading through the alphabet and numbers now. [This is what it means to suffer for love.])

Blush again, showing off his little blushy cheek markings. He's such a superb snake with a graceful attitude.

I really like how I put off a scary 10 minute chore for an entire year. I'm looking at the timestamps on the last post and. God. Ain't that the way of things.

I was able to shame myself with this post into tweezing a bunch out (I still like it in some areas). Wasn't actually as hard and scary as I thought it would be!!

The improvement is immediate though my light starved corals will need some recovery time.
Let's see if I can sell this xenia on marketplace lmao.

Actually hate what has become of my desk tank so much lmao. I let the corals duke it out for a year because, well, the toddler is all consuming. Well, xenia is also all consuming and clearly won the battle. I need to pull so much of this out UGHHHH.
Look at the xenia in the very top left part of pic in the before. It started so innocently. But xenia is never innocent.

Okay I really do need to get the good DSLR out /___\ He's so pretty and YES he also has a little dent in his snout.
However.
His finnage is excellent imo. He's also a straight frickin killer, like you could HEAR him biting the acrylic where he was showing off to the female. His colors are also peak, though his tail and dorsal could use more colors for judging.
All that to say his only real fault imo is that dent on his head. I can fix him. (by breeding him to a girl with a strong topline)

IT HAS BEEN 84 YEARS BUT PEPPERONCINI FINALLY GOT ALL THE SLUGS OUT.
Okay so.
Remember 4/22 she laid 2 eggs and then there were some FREAKISHLY huge slugs she retained. This is not good. At all. With the help of a vet we drained the two closest to the vent, and gave her an antibiotic. This allowed 2 giant slugs and 1 normal sized slug to pass.
But then. The next two were also huge. I waited. I gave her time. Perhaps too much time. To pass them naturally.
5/31 I aspirated the next huge slug in the queue. This passed the next day HELL YEAH. But still there were 3 in her. And I waited. And then on 6/3, tonight, SHE PASSED THE LAST 3!!!!!!!!!
So long as she doesn't get an infection (which she got another antibiotic dose for) from the latest aspiration, my girl is GOLDEN. Guys I am just elated. ELATED.

The good part of getting them in the photo tank: you get to examine their conformation
The bad part: you get to examine their conformation
Bro she has a BEAK 😭

I need to start taking pictures of my bettas!! I have... NINE now. So here is the red base and gold metallic pair! The female has way too much gold coverage, but I'll hopefully be able to select against that if I choose to breed these.
(Like I literally chose the male because he had poor metallic coverage on his head, which is a PLUS because I don't want my fish going blind! But then the random girl sent with him has full coverage. So. Lol I guess. We'll fix that in post.)
I mean, I may not even end up pairing these together or at all. After seeing the fish in person now, there are choices to make!
I still haven't dug my DSLR out of storage, but I am hoping these phone pics in better light suffice??

Note
hot damn how do you shade scales like that. is it as wrist hell as it looks to add shadows to individual scales near the shadow boundary or is there a trick
There is no trick, that took me like 3 days or something. 😭BUT I LOVED IT! It was so so satisfying to do.
