Why is cultural appropriation so important? Because I am a Latina. But because I am an AFRO-Latina, with prominent African heritage, I was told that I couldn't embrace my Latin heritage because I didn't look Latin. Yet a blonde haired, blue eyed, NON-LATINX Becky or Beckford can put on a Sombrero or paint their faces like a sugar skull and they're praised for it. But I, an actual Latina with actual Dominican and Puerto Rican roots, am ridiculed for even trying to learn Spanish. That's why acknowledging and addressing cultural appropriation is so important.
