Spotted lantern flies have finallyyyy gotten comfy in my neighborhood! They were running amok in baltimore last summer, but i only saw one adult outside my window in pg county. This summer, though???? The nymphs are EVERYWHERE and I expect them to have a very noticeable presence in the coming weeks.

Spotted lantern flies are a fairly recent invasive species, having only arrived in the us within the last handful of years. They’re “true bugs”, related to cicadas, and their fellow invasive (though nowhere near as stylish) brethren, the brown mammorated stink bugs.

TW for a news story about child murder!

!!! so, i've been binge watching paternity court, and I glance through the comments sometimes. i learn in the comment section on this one particular episode that one of the babies in question, a couple years after the show, was murdered! :( By his legal guardians! They fucking beat him to death with a baseball bat, supposedly ~because he snuck a cupcake without asking~??????

and assuming all the info in the story was true, the mother had lost custody of her kids because she lost her job, and was in the process of trying to get back on her feet so she could get her kids back at the time that this happened.

and to make this horrific story even worse, apparently the mom had tried to have her kids placed somewhere else just THREE DAYS BEFORE her son was killed because she'd seen scars and bruises on him. But the state denied her request to have them moved!

i cannot IMAGINE the fury she must have felt. like, I almost feel like if it was me, my anger at ~the state~ for not listening to me would overshadow the grief of the fact that my hypothetical kid just got killed. bc like... she KNEW they were in danger, and the state took away her power to do a damn thing about it! Leaving her with no (legal) option other than to beg the state for help! They alone had the power to rescue her children and they didn't and a little boy died because of it!!! Like jesus fucking christ, that has got to be any parent's absolute worst nightmare. And I'm sure she wishes in retrospect that she'd just gone ahead and broken the law and kidnapped her own kids back and just lived in her car with them or even under a fucking bridge, if the only other option was to leave them in the care of someone she knew was hurting them.

Also???????? this might be Barbaric but I 100% believe that the parent of a murdered child should have the legal right to kill the murderer.

like omfg i remember a case a while back where two little boys were hit an killed by a drunk driver just feet away from where their parents had been standing. And then by the time emergency personnel got to the scene, the drunk driver had ~mysteriously~ been shot in the head??? with no witnesses having seen who shot him???

and so the assumption was that the boys' dad must have run home down the street, grabbed his gun, and ran back and shot the driver out of sheer rage/revenge??? AND THEN THE STATE TRIED TO PROSECUTE HIM FOR MURDER???

the dad swore up and down that he didn't do it, and everyone who witnessed any part of the incident claimed not to have seen who shot the guy. but honeslty!!!! even if he DID do it, how the whole hell can you expect someone who just watched their children get killed to be able to hold in their horror and rage enough to NOT kill the killer???? Insanity!

anyway i think in the end he was found not guilty??? or maybe the charges were dropped, idk, but he didn't go to prison for it.

but ANYWAY anyway, literally why does it seem like the only people who let their dogs get out are the ones with aggressive/poorly socialized dogs that happen to be breeds that are stereotyped as dangerous/aggressive??? like, i literally never see anyone's nice, friendly golden retriever prancing around a neighborhood with no collar and no leash and no owner in sight. But in my neighborhood I've seen 2 pitbulls, 3 german shepherds, and a rottweiler all roaming around on the loose at some point. I cannot staaAAANNNND an irresponsible dog owner oh my god!

like, even if you're so much of a piece of shit that you don't care if your dog hurts anyone, you should AT LEAST care enough about your dog to not want it to get fuckin euthanized if it bites somebody??? which is very often exactly what happens to a dog after an attack??? like omg keeping a dog under control is as much for the dog's safety as it is for everyone else's safety!

aaAAAHHh my brother recorded a lil Incident where he was doing some landscaping work when somebody's bigass aggressive german shepherd got out and tried to threaten/challenge/attack him??? doggy was barking and growling at him and kinda lunging at him and omfgggg my brother did not flinch an INCH omfg he did not BUDGE! there's one moment in the video where the dog is so close to him that you can also see my brother's shoe in the same shot as the dog's face, so like, it was right up on him! and every time it would start to get too close, he'd shout at it and take a step toward it and after a little while, the dog actually started to back off!

and then FINALLY some tiny little kid ran over and called the dog and the dog quit barking and ran off with the kid????

but anyway omg I just thought it was so cool that My Big Brother can stand up to a big mean scary dog lmaoooo.

i have this fun lil theory that reincarnation is a normal and universal phenomenon among all forms of life, and the reason why humankind may never be able to prove it is because most souls are reincarnated into a different planet entirely, and only rarely does a single soul reappear on the same planet, and if they do appear on the same planet, they're usually a different species.
