BKDK dynamic is actually INSANE when you really break it down. Like, Childhood friends to enemies to rivals to trauma bonded codependents to soulmates who cannot function unless the other is within a 10-foot radius??? Shakespeare WISHES. Bakugou is the walking embodiment of explosive repression and misplaced anger and Deku is the poster child of chronic self-sacrifice and internalized inadequacy. And somehow they orbit each other like dysfunctional planets that still manage to pull the other into a better trajectory every time. Like… you’re telling me Bakugou spent YEARS bullying this kid and the second Deku gets strong enough to push back, Bakugou has a full existential crisis and starts examining his ENTIRE WORLDVIEW?? And Deku? DEKU??? The same Deku who idolized Bakugou to an unhealthy level, who was hurt and humiliated but never hated him??? WHO FORGAVE HIM BEFORE BAKUGOU EVEN APOLOGIZED?? And don’t even get me STARTED on that apology. That beautifully raw “I’m sorry for everything i did” moment. Like, what do you MEAN Bakugou “doesn’t do feelings” but he literally got on the battlefield, bloody and bruised, and confessed that he’d been hating himself this whole time for how he treated Deku?? That’s not enemies to lovers, that’s penance to redemption to mutual devotion. Their bond is so charged it might as well be another Quirk. And no one NO ONE gets Deku like katsuki does. Not All Might. Not the rest of Class 1A. Not even his mom. Bakugou sees him. The power. The self-destruction. The loneliness. And Deku?? He never stopped seeing the good in Bakugou, even when Bakugou couldn’t see it in himself. their bond isnt about fixing each other, its about growth through fire. They crash into each other like tectonic plates and create something stronger every time. I don’t care if it’s canon or not, BKDK is endgame in every universe where love wins. Anyway...!

this is for the people that hate on bakudeku because they're 'toxic'.

i won't force the ship on anyone, just want you guys to consider some things. Yes he bullied him, from 4-14 years old, that's a long time i will agree. He did tell him to kill himself, also yes.

But he didn't do it because he hates Izuku.

He felt inferior when all he ever heard other people calling him superior, strong, having much potential because of his quirk. He wants to live up to all those standards people have put on him, and when he saw izuku with a pure heart, with heroic intentions just as himself, but without a quirk he couldn’t, or didn't want to, understand that a person can be good, or strong no matter the quirk, or absence of one.

Society taught him quirks are everything, quirks make good people. And izuku is a good person, but without a quirk. Society says he's weird for not having one, and what do children do when they hear adults talking badly of something? Most of them adapt that opinion. for example racists; if you keep feeding a child your opinion of how they are "bad" people, the child will grow up thinking they are bad. Because those are not beliefs right, they're facts, right? Or so the children think.

That's why he always repulsed him.

Izuku kept showing him that he is strong, kept surpassing him. And instead of continuing to push him away he decides to try and understand. This leads to several fights beween the two. He's struggling to split truth from societal standards.

Eventually he figures it out, helps izuku with his new quirk. But he's haunted by the way he acted before, the bullying, the insults, the fights. He struggles to forgive himself, and call it a headcanon but I believe after all these years of growth he still has nightmares and regrets.

During the time he helps him, the two of them grow closer, letting go of the past and trying to create a present. Every step they take in their friendship, a bit of grudge falls away. Forgive and forget right?

When izuku leaves school for his vigilante arc, bakugo likely panics.

All that growth, he didn't have time to apologise yet, but izuku is gone, it might already be too late.

When he finds him he apologises; not to bring izuku back, but to tell him that he genuinely regrets what he did, telling izuku that he's a changed person, subconsciously telling him that he supports him fully in his decision to fight, that that might be the last time they talk, he has to apologise;

"if this is our last moment, atleast let me tell you the truth".

Deep down I believe he would have let izuku go and let him do his thing, helping him from the background, but since he cares so much about izuku now, he tries to bring him back to safety before the apology.

Izuku, the kind person he is, undestands his growth, undestands that he is not a little kid influenced by society anymore, but a grown guy with his own opinions. He doesn't tell him he forgives or forgets anything, but the way he sags into bakugos arms, I'd say he's willing to try, willing to move on forward.

From there on out they grow even closer, bakugo even tries to let go of the childhood nickname they've grown used to, originally meaning "useless", "blockhead" or whatever, he finally feels close enough to call him by his first name.

The fact that Izuku still calls him kacchan after everything means he always believed in katsuki, believed in that he is a better person than the hero society has shaped him into.

People consider a romantic relationship between them because they consider that progress close to love, that there could be a hidden motivation behind bakugos openness to said progress. That they were always meant to be.

I dont think we should force any kind of ship on anyone, but outright saying it's toxic when there is so much to be considered is a little bold, in my opinion.
