Reminder that female bettas also make absolutely wonderful pets and are just as beautiful as males!
Featuring: my mom’s female betta, Khaleesi, raised from a tiny little fry.

Hermit crabs are expensive when you take care of them right, lol
Taking care of them is more than just, “Oh, here’s an aquarium with some sand and a sponge.”
- Aquarium
- Heat lamp
- Fogger
- Fresh water pool
- Salt Water pool
- Climbing toys
- Coconut fibers to mix with the sand (and enough of it for them to bury when they molt)
- Sponges to help with humidity
- Fresh water conditioner
- Salt Water conditioner
- Screen lid
- Plants
- Lots of shells
This is basically where all of my money has gone to make sure that my hermies are comfortable, lol They were fine during the hot and humid summer. But I’ve had to prepare more with winter coming.

It’s official!!!! The woman who’s been making her third attempt at raising baby land hermit crabs has officially succeeded - she confirmed that one of the two in shells has antennae, which means they successfully molted on land. They’re a real land crab now!!! :D This is the first successful US attempt (according to her post on the group & as far as I know)!! Crabby history! ♥
Her blog is only updated through a few days ago, but she has a couple other videos from today up on her channel so far!

Hey, if you like hermit crabs, check out this blog! Mary is currently making her second (or third?) attempt at raising land hermit crabs from eggs. This is an extremely difficult process and it isn’t well understood yet. There have been less than 10 people worldwide that have managed to raise zoea all the way to land. The breeding isn’t the hard part - you just need a good set up, good food, and old enough crabs. But getting those eggs hatched in salt water & then actually raising the babies takes a TON of time & effort! The whole Facebook group has been avidly watching and reading her updates and celebrating every new day with her. ♥ We’re so excited that the first one has gotten into a shell!!
