Thanks. Loaded question but who reads DC comics and doesn’t love to rant once in a while?    

People who want Jason to be a crime lord are a mixed bag, anon. From my experience, some are nostalgic of when Jason was a villain; they want this to be the hill on which Jason fights Bruce & co (and dies on). Some are just severely naive fans. Some are fans who want Jason to stars in gangster stories, etc... Nothing that interest me.

1. I'm okay with Jason killing traffickers and dealers, but not him becoming one.  That’s an actual deal-breaker for me. 

2. I don't want to see Jason becomes what he hates for no reasons.  

Beating dealers and crime lords, making them afraid to deal drug to kids... Jason achieves nothing as a glorified drug dealer that he can't accomplish as a vigilant. Affiliating RH to organized crime is more of a dead weight and a moral liability to his character than anything else.  

Also, anyone who think Jason is an actual crime lord in UTRH is basically telling me they don’t have enough reading comprehension to read/watch UTRH or a dictionary at this point. (More about that below the cut if you care.)  

3. Jason being turned into a crime lord is not going to magically solve how DC portray him. 

DC will never let a crime lord be the solution to crime their heroes can’t be, or imply that what Gotham need is a "good crime lord", or that such concept even exists... That shit is irl harmful. Such direction can only validate DC when they'll portray him as a scumbag or a cautionary tale; "he who fights monsters become the monster" and "Batman was right about Jason being a bad apple all along".   

I hope this delayed answer clear things, anon.

A crime lord is someone who run and lead a criminal organization for profits. It’s the literal definition. Aside when Jason shortly takes over Penguin’s club during Rebirth RHATO, calling him a crime lord is a misconception or simply an informed attribute. UTRH never refers to Jason as being a crime lord. The flanderization happens after UTRH and my best guess is that DC went there to mark a distinction for their readers. So, they do not confuse RH (a vigilant but also a full-fledged villain for the rest of post-crisis continuity) and the ideal(ized) vigilantes Batman & co, whom readers should root for.   

So, yeah... Jason isn't a crime lord in UTRH.    

The only thing Jason leads there is his own operation, much like any vigilant. He blackmails actual kingpins into paying him so they stop working for BM. A "subscribe to my protection and policy or die" sort of deal. Then he kills and arsons underlines and stocks of the traffickers he didn't rope in. The goal is to weaken Black Mask’s empire, N°1 crime lord in Gotham and it's not to overtakes him.

RH has no hands in the drugs operations or business. He never touches that. He has no plans for some expansion or unification too. The actual crime lords in the story regards him as a madman, a big bully and a thug. He would have let that kingpin he roped in by force get burned alive by BM’s men if he didn’t have to pretends and keep BM’s manpower divided.  

I can't remember or care to check if the whole "regulate the drug market to control it” is fanon or also a direction that pop-up later in post-crisis. But UTRH!Jason isn’t leading a criminal organization. He’s leading a scorched-earth policy. There's no regulation of anything aside the "no child rule", and RH never claims such. He’s stirring shits in Gotham’s underworld, pocking at a hornet's nest, to get Batman's attention. UTRH is the story of a ghost coming back to haunt Bruce/Gotham.

If you go with the movie version, Jason also stirs things so BM pulls Joker out of prison and get his hands on the clown. Potentially, this is why Jason use the moniker of RH. If BM goes to Joker for help, it’s because he thinks Joker may know who RH is, or is behind all this, since the clown once used that alias himself.  

RH has no regard for any criminals involved, while actual crime lord Jason entails that Jason employs and works with a bunch of people who makes a living of smuggling and selling drugs. That he makes a profit over addictions and trafficking and he feeds that industry on some level. Regardless of how you justify this choice or not, he becomes an active wench in poisoning society and not just the underworld.  

That's a BIG side-step from what RH does in UTRH, and worse, in complete contradiction with his character or motives prior to his death.  

Drugs, thugs, dealers destroyed his childhood, his mother's life and jeopardized his by proxy. Jason doesn't idealize criminals or heroes. He doesn’t see anything moral about being a vigilant and thus don’t see a point in Bats’ “being better than them” mantra. Moral =/ Justice. His whole schism with Bruce steams from that.

So no, I’m not enthusiast about seeing Jason work with people he loathes, or turn into something he hates. For no real gain, again because he can do the same as a vigilant not affiliated to the drug business.To be clear, DC will never let him solve crime, obviously, but if turning Jason into a "he who fights monsters become the monster" villain so the moral can be "Bruce was right all along" isn't the point, going back to UTRH or crime lord Jason is not a viable direction.

So what is the endgame for jaydick in kemonomimi au? Their world is quite brutal and harsh, so I guess they won't fall in love, but Dick will be like,more affectionate towards Jay or smth? And, if I understood it correctly, Bruce gifted Dick with an omega for his own personal use? So Jason has to live and travel with Dick from now on? And what will happen when Dick has to settle down, find a mate and have pups? Jason will be free to leave when Dick doesn't need him anymore?

I did all I wanted with that medieval kemonomimi AU, so the limit is your imagination now. Nothing stops you from having them fall in love. 

  To clarify: Jason is only Bruce's olive branch toward Dick. Dick doesn't really own Jason. A serf is a property of the land (Gotham). Jason is still legally Bruce's servant; or whoever is to replace him as Gotham's lord. Dick only has his pack alpha's words here.   

Bruce can choose to make Jason a free-folk at any given time. But no, there's no guarantee of freedom for Jason here. People like to keep a good helper around for as long as they can.  

Jason can follow Dick. Dick can stay with Bruce and become Gotham's sheriff. Dick can leave Jason at the manor like a toy he outgrows but still reclaim him whenever he visits. Jason can flee to try his luck elsewhere, etc….  

If Dick settles down, Jason can serve his household/pack just like Alfred serves Bruce. Or Dick can always send him away, back to Bruce if he doesn't need him or if Dick's mate is not having Jason under their roof.

Between us, that AU is bleak enough that when I was working on it, I once imagined to expend it into something that was pure crack/satire, so here you go: 

Tim replaced him in the fun activities and these alphas libido is too much of a hassle. Jason can take it anymore. He flees and hide in Gotham Woods. Because one thing led to another, he becomes a sort of tiny robin hood figure with others omegas pups (the Red Hoods merry band I guess).  

Jason only really becomes a torn in Bruce's heel when his band's growing influence stirs a sex strike amongst Gotham's omegas. In order to not be persecuted the omegas who participate in the strike come hide into the woods where they organize a small society. This movement expand to Blüdhaven. Bruce is at some point urged by the crown to resolve the matter that doesn't make anyone laugh anymore now that independent initiatives have popped here or there, far beyond Gotham's borders.  

Strength or stealth bring no results for our Alphas who have a common cause again, but they’re too many red hoods to hunt. Eventually the Red Hoods get betrayed by horny omegas who can easily resist their 4 to 6/10 husbands or clients, but not the 11/10 alphas like Bruce or Dick. Even if the movement must make many concessions, Jason is able to negotiate a few things, including his freedom in exchange of peace. FIN.

Thanks, anon. I use photoshop cs6 and default round brushes you can find in any drawing software nowaday. I'm not patient enough for effects so my colouring is beyond basic and holds on one or two layers.To my knowledge, the trick is to understand enough about shadows/lightning to know what to highlights. Keep it simple. A good colors palette will do the rest.

Hi!!! I read Your medieval au in ao3 and loved it so much. Both the writing and art were amazing and could really build up and give form to both the au and the characters. Your jay is such a complex character that is so cool and competent without stopping him from being charming and a survivor with whom it’s easy to sympathize with. Also i really like how you portrayed and designed dick grayson, I really like his mean strike and smartness to read bruce. If you don’t mind me asking out of curiosity, how would you describe the relationship between bruce, dick and Jason? And what are each character’s expectations from each other? I would really like to see how did you intend to portrayed their relationship reflected in the art of the comics,reactions and thoughts. Anyway, I really like to blog and truly enjoy your post both in tumblr and ao3. Kudos and have a nice one!

Okay first: ashjsdhsd!!! Thank you, anon. I'm flattered you enjoyed it, and relieved that the fic was legible. I’ve gotta thanks Dae for that. 💖

It's hard to explain my intents without mentioning what I had to cut out. For the flow and to not bloat a one-shot fic that had already too much happening in term of "lore".  But I may as well spill the beans here. I assume you're ready for an essay since you like blogging anyway. lol  

Despite of how hard I wanted the reader to feels for Jason's struggles, my intent wasn't to portray Dick as unlikable. Same for Bruce, even if that alpha is a daker shade of gray and stays out of focus. I also wanted to avoid portraying Jason as passive or as a victim. Going with the flow, dealing with the crappy cards life throw at him with spunk is what Jason does best.

My last intent was to not disney-ize or fetishize royalty/nobles/the feudal system.

> How would you describe the relationship between Bruce, Dick and Jason?

Unequal. A power balance dictated by the feudal system above all. The dogmas surrounding ABO are just the final nail in the coffin. From their age/designation/birth, Bruce and Jason represent the two extreme poles of that spectrum.  

(Dick's origins got cut out, but he was supposed to be an in-between. He wasn’t born a slave or a noble. His birth station is humble but uncommon enough it sets him a bit apart. He gets assimilated and socially ascend upon joining Bruce's pack early on his life. This involved extra elements from the worldbuilding and there was already too much going on.)

Bruce is Gotham's Earl. Powers above him exist, the crown and the church, but he controls his land however he wants.The church is breathing in Bruce's neck for Bat-man, who accidentally re-ignite a pagan tale/faith to life.

(If Bruce still seats in Gotham it’s because the crown prefers Bruce where he is. The alpha managed to bring order in what the they perceive as an accursed county after the Wayne's death. Beside he’s the heir and a noble. He is part of their clique and the lesser evil until someone better steps in.)

Regardless of Dick's origins, him and Bruce are pack. Despite the lack of blood affiliation. You can imagine Dick faces some discriminations, but he is overall pretty well accepted/assimilated since he becomes Sheriff.

As Dick grow, they become to have an “old” dog versus young dog kind of rivalry that ends pushing Dick away.  

Jason is above all a serf; a slave-born. Without even taking ABO designations into account, the peoples Jason serves have choice of life and death over him. He can be sold. He can’t marry without authorization. Same for his pups because this condition is hereditary. This is the prism between these characters.

Jason is part of Bruce's pack in the sense that he is a possession. Being an omega is why Bruce ends taking interest in him, and indirectly improve Jason's life conditions over night. Like a fairy tale that scoop him away.

He’s a glorified pet or chew toy in the service of an eccentric noble, who wouldn't be as attached to Jason if the omega was less feisty. As such, Bruce can be pretty lenient toward Jason occasionally. So long as that sharp tongue isn’t aimed at Bruce’s lordship. If Bruce likes him for his spunk and “bluntness”, Jason actually filters his thoughts around him and does as he is told.

As for Dick and Jason... They just met, and not in the best conditions. Bruce pits them against each other to get Dick’s attention.

Bruce ➡ Dick

A family/ pack. Bruce has this “old” packless alpha kind of crisis going on. Until now he always prioritized his duty over his pack. But now Gotham is somewhat in order, the Bat-man isn't as needed so Bruce has to face his loneliness in Dick’s absence. A void he can’t fill with Alfred, Jason or Tim. He's reassorting his priorities and that begin with re-bonding with Dick before the young alpha breed his own pack and truly put Bruce behind him. That's the headspace he's in atm.  

Dick ➡ Bruce

The young alpha to Bruce’s old. He’s after Bruce’s trust, respect and recognition as an equal and alpha. 

Bruce ➡ Jason 

For Bruce, Jason is a servant, pet and a distraction. An intelligent omega he trains to be versatile asset/weapon. In the absence of Dick (or Tim), Jason is a squire with benefits that won't/can't challenge Bruce. Even as Dick’s chew toy/practice dummy, Bruce expects Jason’s loyalty to goes to him first. He is found of Jason but mostly because there’s a lot about the omega Bruce takes for granted.  

Jason ➡ Bruce

Nobles are high maintenance and servitude is a hassle but Jason’s quality of life and life expectancy improve greatly. Jason gives the alpha his best but ambitions to earn his freedom (to become a free folk) after some years of service. To his own surprise Jason grows to like/respect Bruce for his eccentricities. The very things Alfred, Dick or society may disapprove of. 

Dick ➡ Jason

Jason is Bruce’s olive branch, a responsibility and a chew toy. Where Bruce asks Jason to be mindful of their status, Dick makes sure Jason doesn’t forget he is an omega. Where Bruce is amused by Jason’s spunk, Dick is way less impressed. If Jason profits from Bruce’s eccentricities, Dick knows from experience the pack doesn’t always do. This is something Dick expect to see changes after mending bonds with Bruce. A young alpha has a lot to prove (more so with omegas) and keeping the pack in line is how they typically prove their “alphahood”.

Jason ➡ Dick

Dick is someone who could be a plan B or jeopardize his goal entirely. It doesn’t help that Jason doesn’t feel beholden to Dick or like his temperament. It’s in Jason’s nature (and role as a chew toy) to push Dick’s limits when staying on Dick’s good side could be vital for him. Which isn’t always an easy feat when Bruce’s influence stands between them or when the alphas’ expectations contradict each other. But if Jason can gain anything by playing to an alpha's weakness, Jason will.

I had a question about a line in the fic where I says something like "Tarantula wasn't an alpha either" is this suggesting that in this au Tarantula was an omega who took advantage of Dick like she did in the comics? Sorry I know it doesn't matter much but it's been hanging out in the back of my mind since I read the fic

AAaaahhhhh glad you liked it, anon!! As for Tarentula; yes. You can only be alpha or omega here. The term Beta exist but it has other meanings and it's not a designation. She is an omega (and rogue) that Dick had the misfortune to  fall for, just like in the comics.
