robin hobb creating characters in the most complex Situationships of all time. wdym patience and burrich were lovers but burrich wouldn't commit to her because he wouldn't give up on his oath to serve chivalry ("i am chivalry's man" alright burrich. sure. alright. i know what you are) and so he let her go but then through other events patience MEETS and MARRIES chivalry without ever knowing that This is the man that burrich committed himself to instead of her but she genuinely ALSO falls in love with chivalry but she cannot bear him CHILDREN and then both her and burrich LOSE chivalry and BASICALLY have to raise chivalry's child "together" wherein they both come to deeply love and care for fitz (in their own way) but they can never be together because "Chivalry's ghost would stand forever between them." WDYM???????????
