Are you going to a part 3 of winner takes it all? i love the first two parts!
i do plan on making a part three ! :-D
though, i don’t know what should happen yet, since part two was supposed to be the initial ending to the imagine… i’m considering doing some type of after-story as a part three, you know ? like an imagine based on another moment of the reader’s friendship with calum
usually what happens is that while i go on with my day, i get a sudden idea for a plot and that’s when i get the inspiration to outline a fic in my notes, then i draft it on google docs, and then i officialize it on tumblr to post, but unfortunately, nothing has come to me yet :-(
it might take awhile, but there will be a part three !

The Winner Takes It All (Part Two)

Read The First Part
You were so proud of yourself when you didn’t cry over him. It’s safe to say that you deleted every picture, every gift, every memory, and every bridge that connected you to him. Sure, it took you awhile to find a stable place for yourself, to settle down, and to find a new job, but that didn’t stop you moving on from him. You were happy that you were independent. You didn’t need to place your trust in anybody’s hands just for them to drop it. You were doing just fine on your own -dare you say even better.
But there was only one thing that bugged your mind: He didn’t bother checking up on you; not a visit, not a call, not even a text. You’d think, despite he the fact that he apologized to you, that he’d still at least care for you as a friend, as a somebody he used to know, as a decent human being, but you were right, as much as you’d like to admit. He never was sorry after all.
Fortunately, you forgot about him as the months went on; the pain hurt less the more you accepted the fact that he wasn’t yours in the first place; you got over him as you continued living on your own.
He saw you at the café.
Calum wasn’t wrong about spotting you; there you were, wearing your comfiest clothes and your nose stuck in some novel that you’re entranced in. He smiled a little to himself when he noticed that you were alright. After he got the drink he ordered, he decided to make his way up to you & take a seat at your table.
You peered up from your book, looking through your eyelashes. You didn’t expect him to be in front of you -in fact, you didn’t expect to be at the same place at the same time. So you played it cool, considering that you were over him, and put your book down after placing your bookmark in it. You were surprised; All your loved ones warned that a first love’s heartbreak isn’t the easiest to get over, but he’s sitting in front of you now, for the first time since you’ve broken up and you felt nothing.
“Calum,” You addressed him, crossing your arms on top of the table. You eye him up & down before commenting, “Wow, you look… awful.”
He chuckled softly, licking the corner of his lips as he shook his head a little. He’s got to admit, he wasn’t expecting you to be so casual with him, but he doesn’t say anything to question it. “Y/n.” He addressed you too, putting his drink down. “You look cozy. It really suits you, you know. You look like yourself.”
You shifted a little, looking down at your book as you grinned to yourself. It’s true, you realize, and it makes you happy. You had spent way too long dressing yourself up & correcting your manners to impress other people, to get the approval of other people, that you almost forgot how to do things for yourself, you almost forgot how to be yourself. You’d love to brag off about how you’re over him, but he didn’t come to you out of the blue just to do some small talk. “Well, what brings you here?”
“Honestly?” Calum sighed. “Nothing. I couldn’t stand staying at my home all day again so I decided to go here.”
“Again?” You repeated his word, making sure you heard it right. He nodded. “What happened to spending time with your girlfriend?” You almost joked.
Calum’s demeanor changed into that of a negative one. His lips curved into a frown, and he looked down at the table, unable to meet your eyes. “Actually, she broke up with me again.”
You scoffed, leaning back & looking at the ceiling before looking back at him. You were right again: The relationship wasn’t the same.
“The winner takes it all, while the loser has to fall.” You mumbled, looking down at your table; The moment of when you said this to him flashing before your eyes.
“You know, I would’ve slapped her & yelled at her for breaking your heart again, maybe even give her a lecture because I thought she was already lucky enough to have you but obviously she doesn’t realize what she’s lost, or you know, I would’ve even pretended to date you so that you can make her jealous –oh wait! You’ve already done that.” You said, each word full of venom.
“Remind me, Calum, how’d that work out for you again?” You questioned as if you didn’t already know.
“I ended up losing the girl I thought I loved…” He mumbled.
“Oh really?” You rolled your eyes. “What went wrong?”
“I fell in love with the girl I used…” He answered awkwardly, running his hand through his hair.
You stared at Calum in disbelief, taking a moment to process what he had just said as he bit his lip, a tear of sweat dropping as he waited for your response. “No…” You mumbled, wide-eyed. “I won’t let you do this to me again.” You said sternly, looking him in the eye. “I’m looking into your eyes to find the truth but honestly looking at you brings back the pain that I thought was gone.” You whispered, eyes glossing with tears once again.
“I have loved you once, Hood, and you used it. How would I know if I should even trust you?” You questioned, blinking away your tears and still holding up a wall to defend yourself. “We meet again for the first time in months since you broke up with me, and you don’t even want to be friends; you just want to go straight right into the feelings & relationships, as if you haven’t already broken my heart before.”
You crossed your arms as you waited for his reply. “Honestly?” Calum breaths, looking at you like you’re the only person in his world.
“All I know is that if this was some kind of alternate universe, where everything is black & white until you find your soulmate, then I didn’t know true colors until now. I guess I was so desperate to find the person that I want -no, I need, to spend my life with that I didn’t realize I was seeing colors with you when I was trying to get her back.” He explained rather poetically. “Which I understand, might not be a huge reason, but the meaning under it is pretty powerful, so it’s good enough for me.“
“Good enough for you, yeah. But is it good enough for me?” You crossed your arms. “Are you really ‘in love’ with me, Calum? Because last time I checked, I clearly remember you telling me you never loved me after you broke us off. You didn’t say anything about falling in love with me during the process of trying to get your ex back.”
Calum closed his eyes tight; he feared that you might bring this up. “I know, and I’m sorry, and I just…” He groaned but ended up sighing because he didn’t know how to explain himself.
You exhaled in disappointment as you watched him massage his temples. “You should eat a Snickers, Calum.” You suggested to him.
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he looked at you. “What?” He put his hand that was rubbing the side of his head down on his lap. “Why?”
“You get a bit delusional when you’re hungry.” You answered.
If this were any other moment, then you two would share a laugh.
He ignores that comment, though, because he just confessed his feelings to you and you haven’t given a straight answer yet. “If you won’t give me a second chance at a relationship, then would you do me the honor of starting a new friendship?” He begged.
“Give me one good reason why I should allow you to.” You respond with a raised eyebrow.
“If I can’t love you as a lover, then I shall love you as a friend.” He responded, and your eyes softened. You grew tense and you bit your lip, thinking carefully about your decision.
“Okay.” You approved in a whisper.
Calum’s smile was like how it was when he talked to his ex the day of your breakup, and you admit, a bit brighter. “Really?” He lifted his head from his slump to see if you’re playing with him.
“Yeah, really.” You nodded, biting your lip to fight off a small smile.
“Thank you.” He whispered, looking into your eyes.
You two remained quiet, just staring into each other’s eyes like the galaxy was trapped in them. There were feelings that were resurfacing but you knew better than to let it take the best of you.
“Hi, I’m Y/n Y/l/n, and I like tattooed bassists who play in bands.” You introduced yourself, a hand sticking out for him to shake, and officially starting a new friendship with Calum.
“Hey, I’m Calum Hood,” He smiles, taking your hand, “And I have a feeling we’ll be great friends.”

The Winner Takes It All
pairing: calum x reader word count: 1,709 genre: angst
*****
You were nothing more than a pawn for his game, another tool for his plan, another color for his masterpiece. It was sad, to be honest, because you knew it too. You found it suspicious when right after his girlfriend of 4 years broke up with him, he went straight to you. Your loved ones worried about you though, because they too were suspicious of Calum’s sudden decision to date you after his breakup with his previous girlfriend.
But you didn't care because you were the underdog that finally got the love of your life by your side; for him to call you his & for you to call him yours.
It was like a dream come true; to have him pamper you with kisses, to spoon you when it's too cold to sleep, to dance to Ed Sheeran in the living room when it's raining too hard for you guys to go out, to watch horror movies late at night when you guys can't sleep, and to hold you close when you guys are out in public.
You treasured the moments when he cooked for you, when he sang just for you when he offered his jacket when you were cold, when he yawned & slyly put his arm around you when you two were at the movies, and especially when he told you that he loves you.
Little did you know, it was all part of a game.
...
He was angry when he found out that his ex got a new boyfriend.
You didn't mind though; you let him go through the emotions. You thought that he was still trying to get over his ex -which must be hard on both of you guys, because for him, she was his first love, and for you, because your boyfriend still has feelings for another girl. Although, you were okay with it, because he loves you, not her. You trust him, and there may be times where you have to repeat it to yourself that you do, but at the end of the day, he’s in a relationship with you, not her.
“He chose me, not her. He’s in a relationship with me, not her. He loves me, not her.” You’d remind yourself every time Calum gets worked up about his ex-girlfriend.
But ever since his ex got into a new relationship, he hasn't been the same.
You noticed how he doesn't kiss you as much as before, how he doesn't cuddle you at night, how he doesn't go out with you as much as before, how he doesn't cook for you for dinner because -and you quote, "I'm tired," was his excuse, and even how he doesn't hold your hand when you guys would go out.
And not only that, you noticed how his smile was forced, how he sang so heartlessly, and how his kisses to you felt like nothing.
But you didn't care because you still believed he loves you.
...
You two were at the bar when his ex broke up with her boyfriend, and you've never seen Calum so happy in your life. It was rather disappointing to you because you thought you were supposed to be the one to revive him like that. You couldn’t help but think that there was a slight possibility of him still having feelings for her.
Calum was the one who went up to her when she sat down to get a drink after the break-up.
You watched him from a safe distance, pretending to be listening to your friend's gossip stories while sneaking side glances at him as you took a sip of your drink. You couldn't make out what they were saying, but you could tell that his smile was genuine, how his eyes lit up when he looked at her, and how his mood just boosted. You guess his ex said something that made Calum's smile go from ear to ear before getting up & walking back to your table. Right when he got up, you looked back down at your cup & forced a smile at the last comment that your friend said while he was on his way to you.
"Can I speak to Y/n, alone, please?" Calum asked towards your friends who were with you.
All your friends looked at you to see if you were also okay with leaving you with him, sensing that whatever he has to tell you isn't gonna be good. You nodded, and that was the cue for them to leave. Calum took the seat in front of you.
"Listen, I---" He started, but you cut him off.
"You wanna break up with me, don't you?" You cut to the chase, not looking him in the eye.
Calum looked taken aback & blinked at you. "H-How'd you know?"
"Oh, please, Cal." You rolled your eyes as you rested your arms on the table. "I'm obviously not blind, nor am I stupid. You never got over her." You answered. "To be honest, I'm quite proud of you to step up & break up with me before you make some kind of bad decision that might hurt the both of us." You leaned back. "I'll make it easier for you, okay? I'll be out of your hair in as soon as tomorrow afternoon. My stuff’ll be out of the apartment before you know it."
The fact that you took your breakup so well made Calum guilty.
As you got up to leave him, Calum quickly stopped you by grabbing hold of your wrist. He was looking down at the ground with a frown playing on his lips -he wasn't quite ready for the secret he was about to confess.
"I have, um... one more thing to tell you." He mumbled.
You turned to face him completely as you crossed your arms and shifted your weight to one leg. "Sure, Cal, what is it?" You tilted your head to the side, not understanding his nervousness.
"I never... Um." He hesitated.
"Spit it out, Calum." You furrowed your eyebrows.
Calum closed his eyes tight. "I never actually loved you." He said in one breath.
You were wide-eyed, and your back straightened at the confession. You could've sworn that you could hear his words echoing in your head as you blinked at him. "Then why'd you ask me to be your girlfriend in the first place?" You whispered.
"So I can make her jealous.." He answered -you knew who the 'her' Calum was referring too.
You didn't know how you mustered up the courage to slap him in the face.
You let out a shaky, strong exhale as you looked down at the ground. You were shaking, with thoughts literally running through your head as you put the pieces together. You were so blind to not've seen it at first. Calum was so happy when his ex was still single while you two were together. He changed for the worse when he found out that his ex moved on to another man. Now he was back to his happier self, knowing that his ex is single again.
"Wait..." You inhaled, your wide eyes blinking at the ground. "If you never loved me, then why stop pretending now?"
"Because," He started, unsure if he should really tell you -he can imagine the rage boiling in your blood right now, but his proudness got the best of him. "She wants me back." He bit his lip to hold back his smile.
You scoffed, you crossed arms, and you rolled your eyes to the side. "Congrats, Hood. How does it feel that your plans went the way you wanted it to?"
His smile faded & his jaw clenched. "Look, I'm sor---"
"No, you're not." You shook your head. "You're only sorry because you feel guilty. You're not sorry because you did this on purpose."
"I'm acknowledging the fact that my actions were wrong." He argued.
"Oh, so you knew that your actions were wrong, but you still went through with it?" You pointed out, cocking your head to the side in a mocking manner.
His nose flared as he exhaled. So you took that moment to strut up to him, cup the side of his face with one hand & slid it down to his chest, where you grabbed onto his shirt & leaned up to his face, your cheek pressed against his as you whispered in his ear. "Did I do my part perfectly as you planned? Was she jealous that I was in your arms instead of her?"
He was uncomfortable, and you could sense it. He was still in your touch, but you can feel him shaking. His Adam's apple bobbed at the feeling of you so close to him. His eyes were wide, your actions being so foreign. “How do you feel knowing you got the love of your life back after using another who loved you with her heart?” You then mumble, tears starting to form at the brim of your eyes.
"You know what they say, Mr. Hood," You start as you let go of him. He stumbled back a little, which gave you an opportunity to blink away the tears. "The winner takes it all, the loser has to fall."
He doesn't know what to say. He’s still flustered from the intimacy from being under your touch, and he's sinking like quicksand under your words; Every grain that sinks is just another ounce of self-confidence raising up for you.
"Quite frankly, I think you are the loser for going back to her after she lost the love she had for you." You shrugged. "You do realize that your guy's relationship won't be like as it was before, right?"
"I hate the fact that you played my feelings, Calum. I really hope you're happy." You spat venomously.
You sighed, "But I guess I'm the loser too for falling into your schemes. All the signs were right there, at the tip of my nose, but I was too busy loving you to do anything about it." Your eyes became glossy once again, but you didn't allow yourself to cry.
You started to walk away, but you decided to say one more thing before getting out of his life for good. "I hope she's worth it, because I obviously wasn't.”
