Dear players, 

We are so glad you joined us here at FivePoints. It has been a wonderful experience for us, and we hope for you too. 

We want to let you know that as of 1/31/19, we are going to convert FivePoints to a closed, invite-only RP. This decision was a tough one. We the admins, unfortunately, realized that we do not have the time to maintain this game. Rather than close the doors completely, we would like to keep writing with all of you and continue to explore the valley together. 

We understand you may have some questions. Here is a quick FAQ. If yoru question isn’t answered, please feel free to send us an ask before 1/31/19. After that, we will be stepping back from admin roles and continuing to write with you.

Are you still accepting applications?  Yes, and no. Yes, if you are a new writer looking to join us before we shift. Apply! We’re excited you’re joining us on this next chapter. If you are an existing player, we recommend holding off until 2/1/19, when the game shifts to be autonomous. You’ll be able to bring characters in then. 

What happens if I want to bring in a character after 1/31/19? As existing players, we trust that you know the world and what fits in it. If you want to bring in a new character after 2/1/19, post a follow and a brief introduction (either on your current blog or in the OOC) to share your new character with us! 

Will there be group plots? Currently, there aren’t any planned group plots — though that isn’t to say that they won’t happen. Moving forward, we encourage everyone to suggest, coordinate, and execute group plots to explore the world, their characters, and magic. 

Will you be doing activity checks? Nope. 

How do I invite someone to join us? If you want to invite a friend to come write in the valley, that’s great. Post in the OOC to introduce them, and add them to the OOC blog (we’ll be making everyone admins there).

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT 03. This one’s all about -- you guessed it -- magic. It’s an integral part of life in the valley, passed down from generation to generation, and each of our characters has a complex relationship with the power that gives them purpose -- and keeps them in the valley. Answer these questions and share them for the rest of us to read using the fivepoints;development tag!

First, look at the list of magical areas associated with your coven. Your character studied them in school, and would have pursued deeper lessons in those special to their coven if they wished. If they had to pick one, what would it be? Then, take that a step further:

Why this specialty? What do they like about it?

Is this the one they would have picked or would it be chosen for them?

Have they apprenticed to learn more? Are they an expert? Would they like to learn more?

How does their specialty impact their life? Do they use it in their day to day?

All character development tasks at Five Points are non-mandatory, but strongly encouraged. We love reading them and hope you do, too! Have an idea for a character development exercise? Send us an ask.

With only a small scuffle to iron out on the East side of the square, Captain Hayes soon gave each coven leader a sign of the affirmative before stepping into the circle himself. Everyone was in place. Everyone had a place. The ritual could begin.

Incantations were delicate things. This one started out as a soft murmur. Only a few deep voices harmonizing with a scratchy soprano. As each person in the circle added their voice, the sound swelled. Unity was important, and so was timing. Each syllable needed to hit at the same time.

An itchy sort of warmth began to spread from palm to palm. Magic seeking out magic, grabbing on and growing bigger than any one person could do on their own. Waves of magic reached out, drawing the valley’s unruly specter toward the town square. Arlo made his presence known by smashing in the window of the nearest shop.

Snowballs began to fly at their faces. Some of the broken glass went flying too. Captain Hayes shouted once to hold the line, and was then drowned out by an unearthly sound that brought with it an overwhelming sense of agitation that seemed to settle in the chest each participant. 

A bubble of blue light appeared in the middle of the circle. Anyone who could stare at it for longer than a couple seconds could catch a glimpse of Arlo’s contorted facial features. Eyes that were several times too large, and pointed where they should be curved. Strange markings on the sides of his face. A mouth that seemed to run vertical rather than horizontal. With each passing second that the incantation continued, the bubble grew brighter and bigger until its edge ran the length of the chain the covens had created.

Hold the line.

Itchy warmth in their hands began to burn, and the light from the bubble was so bright that several people closed their eyes. Brighter. Brighter until the light could be seen even with eyes closed. Then the town square went unnaturally silent. Pop. Everything went dark. A violent gust of wind blew through the circle, yanking each hand away from the hand that held it. It blew away hats and scarves, and shoved people to the ground with a unnatural strength. Then it was gone.

So was the town square.

The good news is that Arlo has been pushed back into the spirit realm. The bad news is that the force of magic required to do this spell has rebounded. All participants will find themselves instantly teleported to a new location at the conclusion of the ritual. Some participants may be worse for wear, and it would be wise to seek shelter soon as the storm predicted by the Community of Unholy Saints has taken a sharp turn toward a blizzard.

The Keyes’ Carnival grounds. The rides don’t appear to be running at the moment, and the funnel cake stand is closed.

A graveyard in Circle of Nightfall territory. The oldest headstone dates back to the 1600′s, and there’s a small cabin for a groundskeeper that seems to be empty.
