Yummy brunch by The Bowery and a fun cycle around Soweto- hosted by our friends at Fixin Diaries- à la Solange was the order of the day this past Saturday.
Some of you may already be familiar with Fixin Diaries from our post about them a while ago. If you missed it, read all about them here
The idea to host the Ladies #BrunchandRide came about as the team had noticed that few women were attending their weekly Sunday rides. After doing some research, they quickly realised that many women were keen to cycle but didn’t know where to even begin in getting a group of like-minded ladies to cycle with. So the Ladies #BrunchandRide was the perfect way to bring together women from all over the city to take the streets. Whether an avid cyclist or a newbie looking for a fun way to stay fit, the ride aimed to grow the culture of cycling among us all. The day started off with a delicious, sustainable fillet steak and rocket croissant made by The Bowery. And for the newbie cyclists or those looking to polish up their skills, the team gave lessons to get us all ready to hit the road. The ride was a ton of fun as many onlookers and drivers cheered us on. I think seeing a group of beautiful ladies cycling around was definitely a sight for the people of Soweto!
To make sure that we all stayed safe, we had some handsome lads guiding us through the hood. All the ladies were super supportive of one another; even when many of us underestimated our fitness levels and could be seen pushing our bikes up some of the treacherous inclines. The Fixin Diaries saying- “Never Leave A Homie Behind”- could not have been more true during those times LOL.
At the end of it all, we think the Fixin team did an amazing job and we can’t wait to attend the next ride.
xx Moli & Ramone

Fix'in Diaries takes Soweto Ladies Edition
Soweto, 5 March 2015 – Fix’inDiaries is hosting a Ladies’ #BrunchandRide from its workshopin Pimville, Soweto.
Saturday, 28 March 2015 will bring women from all over the city to learn how to cycle and enjoy a specially prepared meal, all before taking on the streets of Soweto for a short group ride.
The idea for the ride stemmed from the rarity of women at the Fix’in Diaries  Sunday rides as well as off-the-cuff surveying of various women who want to cycle but didn’t know how to or couldn’t find a group they could cycle with.
Riders must bring their own bikes. Fix’in Diaries will have a limited number of bikes available for rental and reservations for bikes can only happen once tickets for the #BrunchandRide have been purchased.
Ladies who have never been on a bicycle before will have the chance to partake in lessons in the morning before they dig into a delicious and sustainable meal served by The Bowery JHB.
They’ll need to purchase the Lesson, Brunch and Ride ticket, and must arrive at the Fix’in Diaries workshop at 475 Bokhunku Street, Pimville Zone 7, Soweto between 10:00 and 10:30AM to check-in.
If after the lessons, the ladies feel comfortable enough to ride on the Soweto streets, they more than welcome to join the ride portion of events. The Fix’in Diaries motto is Leave No Homie Behind, so we start as a collective, we’ll ride as a collective.
Everyone else is to arrive by midday for the brunch with the ride beginning at 13:30.
Non-riders are also welcome to support, and may purchase a Brunch and Ride ticket to enjoy the brunch as well as be entertained by our resident DJs.
Fix’in Diaries has also partnered with DRUMbeat. The DRUMbeat concert will take place at the Soweto Theatre from 15:00 on Saturday, 28 March 2015. We will be offering discounted tickets to the concert along with tickets for the #BrunchandRide to create a full day Soweto experience.
You can purchase the #BrunchandRide tickets from Quicket, http://bit.ly/1DTIuko and for more information, visit www.fixindiaries.co.za/brunch-and-ride

Aya: "I learned how to ride a bicycle when I was about 10 years old but for some reason stopped riding. I hadn't picked up a bicycle for years until I was in Cape Town in May last year. As unfit as I was, the ride was exhilarating and refreshing (And yes, one never forgets how to ride a bike). I'm not at any level of riding a Cape Argus or 94.7, but I'll get there eventually. However, witnessing such races and any kind of social ride, there are only a select number of women who ride, and worse, almost no black women. And in asking my friends, so many of them don't even know how to ride a bike. So I will make it my mission this year to get more black female riders so that they can all live out their Solange wedding dreams one day, lol."

Thank you, Solange. We have bike craze amongst black people because of you. We love that black people are finally getting introduced to the cycling life. While this is what we've been wanting to achieve with Fixin Diaries, Solange has added a new fresh element amongst black females, the most scare group in the cycling community.
