Rose: Hero or villain?
This argument has been active for years, ever since the fandom found out about Roses backstory. So lets break it down shall we? We will start with a positive note on roses good aspects:
Firstly, and the most obvious one, she did save the earth. The earth would have been completely destroyed if Rose had not stepped up, so she did save millions of humans.
We know rose cared about all living things, and found the concept of biological life fascinating. She tended to her roses with a skilled kind hand and from what we saw was kind to all the humans she met.
Greg. Greg was definitely loved by rose, no matter how short lived it may have been.
Garnet. Rose was the first gem to accept garnet as a fusion, and encourage them to discover themselves as a fusion instead of forcing themselves apart.
But, lets be real, she did a lot of bad stuff to, and I know that's what your more interested in so lets get into it:
Spinel. Spinels story is tragic, and in a way proved that pink diamond was no better than the other diamonds in how they saw their workers; disposable. She left spinel alone for thousands of years to rot on a planet in the middle of nowhere, forgotten by everyone. The trauma she suffered isn't one that can be undone or made up for.
Pink Pearl. Pink diamond, in her anger about not being aloud her own planet, struck her pearl. The damage she caused was so traumatic that the injury continued to manifest in her physical form.
Steven. Maybe what she did to Steven could be seen more as irresponsible than evil but, that's for you to decide. She left her son with all her unsolved problems to deal with, and he started dealing with them at such a young age. We see in the future series that this trauma stays with him for many years, because he was dealing with life threatening situations his whole life and never really got a proper childhood.
Pearl. Rose made pearl a second choice when she met Greg. This wasn't Gregs fault but i can only imagine how abandoned and betrayed pearl must have been feeling. Not to mention Pink diamond final order to pearl, that she couldn't tell anyone her true identity or what really happened to her. It almost destroyed pearl emotionally keeping that secret and rose never really gave pearl any closure when she gave up her physical form to create Steven, so pearl had to carry that weight all alone.
And the list goes on! All in all I would say while roses motives where good and the end result was good, that doesn't make her a nice person. She often disregarded other peoples feelings and didn't think about how her actions hurt others. Villain? No. Good person? Absolutely not.

Garnet
Garnet is one of the crystal gems, introduced right at the start of the series. As a fusion Garnet is seen as a very responsible and powerful character, with a fun and mysterious streak. As a fusion of a sapphire and a garnet she possesses the power of future vision, insane amounts of strength and is lava proof. Her weapon is a pair of gauntlets, making her very skilled in hand to hand combat. She is over 5500 years old and lived through the gem war. When Rose died Garnet became the "leader" of the crystal gems. This may not be an official title but she was certainly the strongest and seemed to command the respect of Amethyst and pearl.
