Now, just like any other copy project, you must always begin with your prospect’s most intimate thoughts and desires.

When doing research, there is always the dissonance between what your prospect says and what your prospect does. To add to that, there is also what your prospect “thinks” and this can only be deduced from the former two actions. That is why taking a survey of a market is not enough. People tend to say that their most read book is the Bible when they’re actually spending more cash on erotica novels.

So when you’re doing research, imagine that you’re some kind of Sherlock Holmes, always trying to put yourself in the prospect’s shoes.

Another thing we should touch upon is that all copywriting, all sales is about emotion.

It’s about fleeing from pain and seeking pleasure.

People rarely buy things for their utility alone. Ask the old man who bought himself a Porsche 916. Did he buy it because it’s a good car? Sure. But I bet $20 that he also bought it because of how it makes him look to the outside world.

Humans are suckers for these kind of things, even if they will rarely admit it directly.

So make sure that you do enough research on your market before you start writing your video sales letter.
