Ok I’ve got another DW x LP headcannon here, so stay with me.
Right let’s go to the episode ‘my valentine ghoul’. In this episode Negaduck tries to woo Morgana, in order to use her powers for his evil plans.
Through a series of events, Darkwing is struck with a love potion, which makes him fall in love with the first person he sees. Basically Darkwing falls in love with Negaduck.
Tumblr media
Now you may be wondering, what does Launchpad have to do with all this, he’s not even in the episode??
Ok so, Darkwing, under the influence of the love potion calls Negaduck loads of nicknames like nega buddy, pal, chum etc. I do understand that these nicknames were a result of censorship, but still, hear me out.
The fact that he calls Negaduck all these nicknames under the influence of the love potion suggests that these are the types of nicknames that DW would use on the person he is truly in love with.
Right? Now who does DW use these nicknames for without the love potion??? LP!!! He constantly calls LP buddy, or pal. He always uses these nicknames, without any sort of prompts, it’s just natural to him.
Moral of the story is that, DW uses nicknames that he would use for the person he loves, for Launchpad.
Therefore DW is in love with LP. Case closed.

What do you think they are like when the other is sick?
I think LP would be overbearingly overprotective, to the extent that he is basically smothering Drake with attention, medicines, blankets and what not.
He would be so overwhelmingly attentive that Drake would probably kick him out of his room in order to get some rest.
He would definitely be more worried than Drake when it comes to Drake’s health.
I feel like Drake would be super sweet, sweeter than normal. He would be super soothing and calm. Maybe he’d put his ego aside and even sing LP lullabies.
LP wouldn’t have anything to worry about with Drake taking care of him.

Do you ever combine traits of both versions of Drake and LP in your blog?
Definitely!!
I combine the LP from Ducktales 1987, Ducktales 2017 and Darkwing Duck series.
I sort of imagine that from Ducktales 1987 he must have stopped working for Scrooge and came to St. Canard, for the Darkwing duck series.
I don’t really know how Ducktales 2017 would fit into that headcannon, but I definitely combine all 3 versions of LP together.
However, for Drake/Darkwing, I see both the Drake from Ducktales 2017 and Drake from 1991, as two separate, distinct versions. While I admire and love both versions, I feel as if their respective traits are too different.
I kind of lean towards Jim Sterling being the original Darkwing duck, however I also sort of see him as just an actor for a show.
Yeah I’m conflicted about all the versions of Darkwing but I combine all 3 LPs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does LP feel belittled whenever he’s around Drake or Scrooge?
I don’t think LP is the sharpest tool in the shed, but he’s not stupid either. He should really stand up for himself more.
Thank you for this question! I definitely agree that LP should stand up for himself. I absolutely adore Launchpad, he is such a sweetheart and is very considerate about others and always puts them first.
There is a lot more to the big softie, than meets the eye.
I think Launchpad only sees value in himself when he is useful, which is so sad. In the episode ‘star crossed circuits’, Launchpad is literally brought to tears at the fact that he was no longer needed because the D-2000 was a better help to DW.
Launchpad even voices this to Darkwing. He specifically says ‘I don’t know what good I am to you anymore.’ Thankfully, towards the end, Darkwing does express that he needs his sidekick, but I do feel like DW could learn to be more considerate of him.
I think Launchpad has this constant struggle to be useful or good enough. And working with DW and Scrooge, both, proves that he is useful because he is needed.
I think LP doesn’t mind Scrooge getting mad at him or calling him dumb because he is useful to him and that almost outweighs it, because if he is useful, then he has value.
However this doesn’t just apply to Scrooge and DW. In the Ducktales 2017 series, there is a whole episode dedicated to how LP wants to be ‘good enough’ for Dewey.
Another point is that in the old Ducktales show, in the episode ‘top duck’, it is brought to light that LP left his family ‘the flying McQuacks’ because he felt that he wasn’t good enough to fly with them.
Do you see his constant struggle to be good enough.
I don’t think LP minds how Scrooge and Drake are, I think he just understands that that being egoistical and rude is just part of their personality. The fact that he is useful and helpful to them both shows that he has value. This is probably the reason why LP doesn’t stand up for himself.
I think this is so wrong because LP has value with or without DW and Scrooge. He is good enough. I just wish that DW and Scrooge voiced how important LP is, whether he is useful or not.
Anyways sorry for such a long answer, but let me know what you think, or if you’d add anything to this. (*^o^*)

Is Drake technically fat?
Thank you for your question!!
Well… ( ̄▽ ̄;)
I guess he is a little on the chubby side. But I do think he does take care of himself, as we see in the episode ‘the incredible bulk’, he does get back into shape fairly easily.
However there are many occasions where we see that Drake is a little self conscious of his eating/waist line.
I’m sure Launchpad likes his chubbiness though wink* wink* 👀

Do you headcanon that Drake believes he’s ugly or jealous that he’s not as attractive as Launchpad?
Thank you so much for your question! *\(^o^)/*
Drake has a massive ego, which is probably too big to even consider that he may be ugly. Although we do have episodes where he is conscious about his figure/waist line, for instance ‘toys czar us’, where he continuously asks if he looks fat.
But overall I do think deep down, (although he would probably never admit it) Drake is a little jelly about the attention Launchpad gets (being the big himbo that he is.)

Ok ok so hear me out…
In the episode ‘heavy mental’, Launchpad gains psychic powers, but he has trouble controlling them.
For instance if he’s thinking about something, it essentially comes true in a literal sense. For example if LP thought about a drink, it would float into his hand.
Ok so around 7:53 (a time-stamp) in the episode, Gosalyn asks LP what other powers he’s got and Drake comes running with his butt on fire.
Now hear me out, LP might have literally been looking at Drake's butt thinking it was 'hot' 👀 (as in attractive) and then drake's butt sets on fire. Just like his psychic powers that work in a very literal sense. Like think about it, it makes so much sense…
