[ he holds the position for a few seconds and he really, really enjoys this. he can feel her grin against his lips, and he's pretty sure she can feel his. ]

[ she’s still smiling even in the kiss, her hands rising from his neck to his hair. her heart is on overdrive now, and she doesn’t want this to end. ]

Why, if I didn't know better, I'd say that sounds like a challenge.
[ and, with that, he tilts her back a bit, giving her a deep kiss. it's totally cliche and he loves every bit of it. ]

[ she rolls her eyes playfully at his words. please, they both she’s the better kisser out of both of them. his grin is infectious, and now she’s grinning, too. it’s still there up until the point where she gets on her tip toes to brush her lips against his, and it’s back when she’s standing at her normal height again. ]
Johnny, we both know I’m the better kisser than you.

Envious?
I don’t think jealous is the word I’d use.

[ johnny wouldn't really outright say it like that, but man, is liz cute right now. wow. wow, wow, wow. he can't help but grin, really. he's kinda really lucky. ]
I'm gonna hold back on the getting-better-at-kissing remarks for now.

[ her heart may have stopped beating when their lips touched. never mind, it’s beating again. oh, look, her cheeks have become apples. but there’s a smile on her face still and it’s positively more brighter than it was before. ]
Evidently not.

[ he feels guilty. it doesn't matter what she says, he feels guilty. he was there. norman osborn was there, threatening peter. maybe it was the punisher's fault for piercing peter's side with a rifle bullet. maybe it was norman osborn and the rest of the stupid sinister six. maybe it was peter's silly own heroic self that was his demise. either way, johnny feels guilty. it all happened in a rush, but it's his fault, right?
who else's fault could it be?
it can't possibly be, i dunno, the fault of norman osborn -- the guy who killed peter -- can it?
nah. all johnny's fault.
his views on this might be skewed. that doesn't change the fact that it eats at him. ]

I guess I don't, Liz. I guess I don't.
Why do you keep apologizing?
[ and she does wonder why he does. she doesn’t blame him or anyone else for that matter. she knew Peter made his decision, and it resulted in his ultimate death. (maybe that’s a bit too cruel, Liz thinks, but then again, she’s never lost someone like Peter.) so maybe he blames himself?
it’s called survivor’s guilt. Johnny had been there to witness, so he must feeling guilty and angry and sad all at the same time because he couldn’t save Peter. (she tells herself things would’ve been different if she was there. it would have been her that died, not Peter, and everyone would have been happy.)
her fingers splay across his cheek, and she frowns. he really doesn’t have anything to apologize for. it’s her that does. she failed to be a friend, a best friend, a person, and a superhero all at the same time. so if she died instead of Peter, maybe Johnny and MJ wouldn’t be so sad. ]
You don’t have to apologize, Johnny. Everyone knows it’s not your fault.
[ it’s mine. i failed Peter, i failed MJ, Aunt May, Bobby, and above of all, you. ]

You're just jealous because I'm gonna get a Torchmobile and you won't.
You are unbelievably predictable.

[ the grin spreads until he can't smile anymore; it's one of those awfully cliched grins that they say feels like your jaw's going to fall off, but, really, he's too preoccupied to notice anything else. he presses his lips to hers in what he assumes to be the first time he kisses her without it being because of a "pinkie promise." ]
I'm not the only one.

[ his grin makes the butterflies’ fluttering worse, and she’s pretty sure he can hear her heart pounding against her rib cage. Liz giggles and grins in return. ]
Isn’t it? You look like you’re having fun.
