Labrador Retrievers - Are You Really Prepared? The Pros and Cons of Owning a Lab
Pros
Great Family Dogs: Your Lab will love your entire family and they are great companions for responsible children. Many breeds can turn out to be a one-person dog which makes it miserable for the rest of the family.
Good Natured and They Love People: They are very easygoing, friendly and have a good temperament. This breed is also accepting to strangers. The only down side to this is that he won’t bark if you have an intruder. Instead of pinning him in a corner, your Lab might show him where the cookie jar is.
Labs are “Dog” Friendly: If you want your Lab for a hunting dog, it is critical that they like other dogs since you can be sure there will be other dogs out hunting with you. Labs are not aggressive.
They House Train Easily: Obviously dogs don’t train themselves, but Labs are exceptionally bright and they always want to please their owner which makes training quick and easy.
Athletic: If you are a jogger or hiker, this dog is the perfect choice. They love this type of exercise or any kind of sport you do. They always want to be exercising, so doing it with you will make them happy.
All-Around Hunting Dog: This dog will retrieve on land or water. If you are a hunter and you’re looking for that perfect dog to retrieve your ducks, pheasants, geese, etc., choose a Lab. This breed loves any kind of water activity, which is also great for the kids when you go to the lake for fun.
Cons
Labs Demand Attention: Labs were bred to work whether it’s fetching a toy, getting you your newspaper or chasing birds in the wild. They need your attention! An intelligent dog will become destructive if you don’t stimulate him mentally. They need to see new places, learn new skills, see new things and smell fresh scents.
Destructiveness: I suggest you find the time to give your new Lab attention as described above because if these needs are not met, he will be very destructive. He’ll chew on everything, shred your furniture, pillows and bedding, dig huge holes in your back yard, jump the fence and bark as much as possible. This is how they express themselves. You need to have the time to give him attention.
Costly Health Problems: Many older Labs can get chronic ailments that are very expensive to treat. If he gets arthritis, you can spend up to $4-$5 per day. If he gets allergies, their food can cost as much as $80-$100 per month. They have also been known to have hip problems due to their excessive exercising and high energy, which are very costly when surgery is needed.
They Shed A Lot of Hair: The Lab’s coat if very thick because it protects them from the elements while hunting and diving into cold lakes. This means that his coat sheds constantly. You will be vacuuming daily.
Odor: Dogs produce oil in their coats, but Labs were developed for water activities and their heavy coats produce more oil. This is a distinctive smell especially when he has been out exercising or has been in water. If you find it offensive, you will need to bath your dog often. (please be careful not to dry out his skin)
Your Lab Needs A Job: This may sound silly to you, but these dogs were bred to perform specific working functions. They need that stimulation of mental and physical activity. You will need to commit a lot of time and energy to this breed so make sure your entire family understands this before you go out and buy a Lab.

Canine Parvovirus - More Dangerous Myths
Parvovirus is such a deadly disease for dogs. Every responsible dog owner wants to protect the beloved family dog from this miserable disease. Despite the best, most loving intentions, though, there exist misconceptions, myths and misguided advice that can hinder your dog’s recovery.
One thing many people do not realize is just how serious and contagious this disease is, and unfortunately, this can lead to many practices that can harm a dog’s chances of survival, chances of staying parvo-free if he does recover, and chances of keeping the infection away from other dogs. So here is a second list of dangerous misconceptions about parvo. You can find the link to part one at the bottom of this article.
1. My dog must have been in the presence of another sick dog for this to happen. Not so. You can bring this highly contagious and deadly disease home to your dog by touching anything that has been touched by someone who has touched anything the dog has touched. This isn’t your fault, and neither are the things you have to do when cleaning up after a dog with parvo. And please don’t let yourself feel bad because you need groceries. Just for consideration, it’s good to understand that when your dog has parvo, you clean up after him, then touch the sink faucet handles, the towel you dry your hands with, the counter where you place the treatment, etc. This happens again later when you’re not treating your dog, and others in the house have to use these things as well. People need to go shopping, to school or work, etc., and the disease goes with any person that has been in the vicinity. Parvo is everywhere. It’s not your fault at all. The disease just exists, so if you just do the very best you can, it’s all you can do. This brings us to myth number two:
2. I washed my hands. I’m no longer carrying the disease on me. It would be very nice if this were the case, but washing your hands does not kill the virus.
3. I can use antibacterial soap or hand sanitizer to clean my hands. Well, there are three things you want to consider about antibacterial soap. It kills only some kinds of bacteria, it may cause bacteria to mutate into forms for which we have no antibiotics (reference the deadly flesh-eating bacteria), but most importantly in regards to parvo: parvo isn’t bacterial. It’s viral. That means your antibacterial hand soap won’t do much good in that area. It can’t kill the virus. All it can do is physically remove some of the virus from your hands, but not all of it. Also bear in mind: while washing your hands is always a good practice anyway, your sink is now infected with parvo. So is the bar of soap and the towel you just used. Your sink will need to be bleached as often as you can, which can be accomplished more conveniently by buying a spray bottle from a hardware or garden store and filling it with the solution. You can just leave it on the bathroom counter if you wish. (Don’t forget to open the windows when using bleach.) If you have children in your home, it’s best to have them where they can’t breathe the fumes.
4. I can use rubbing alcohol to clean my hands. Unfortunately, this isn’t enough. A hardy virus like parvo needs half a cup of bleach to a gallon of water. This solution can lighten your carpet and clothes, but unfortunately, that’s what is necessary.
5. My dog has been exposed to parvo! I better get him vaccinated right away. If a dog is vaccinated within two weeks of contracting the illness, it can actually make his recovery harder, and in some cases, impossible. Instead, you’ll want to prepare your house and yard the way you would if you were recovering from parvo (bleach). Then, you can then use Parvaid Kit prevention, which may very well prevent your dog from becoming symptomatic, and if he has become symptomatic, it can help him recover. You can still vaccinate afterward, if you wish, but you’ll want to share your concerns with your vet. He should always know about possible exposure before giving the shot so he can determine whether it is safe to administer.
6. My dog is healed. He can no longer get the disease. Unfortunately, this isn’t true, either. I’ve seen dogs relapse even a year after recovering. But that doesn’t mean your dog can never be safe. Prevention and preparedness make excellent guards against this deadly disease. When prevention becomes habit, your dog is the safest and healthiest he can be.

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/06/04/puppy-dewclaw-removal-should-you-have-your-havanese-dogs-dewclaws-removed/
Puppy Dewclaw Removal - Should You Have Your Havanese Dog's Dewclaws Removed?
This is a question that is being asked with more frequency. The dewclaw is the “fifth” little claw that grows higher on the leg than the others. Unlike the other four claws that have constant contact with the ground this claw sometimes seems to remain off the ground when the dog is standing. It does, however, make contact with the ground while the dog is running.
Some Havanese breeders will have a vet remove the dewclaws from their puppies when they are just a few days old as part of their general health procedure. These breeders and their social circles have tried to label this as a healthy and responsible practice.
The reason for this is that dewclaw removal has been perceived by some to offer both health and safety benefits for the dogs. Dewclaws have been seen as a weak claw that can sometimes become loose and rip partway off or catch on objects while the dog is running. The logic is that the removal of the dewclaws eliminates these hazards. There is still a large and very legitimate debate, however, as to the validity of the claim that dewclaw removal is healthy for your Havanese.
As a dog breeder of over 14 years I have personally never had any negative issue arise from dewclaws. It is my opinion that the dewclaws should not be removed as a general practice. There are always situations where the removal of the dewclaws may be necessary for particular dogs but as a universal practice it may ultimately cause more harm than good.
In fact, new research is showing that by removing the dewclaws you may be causing long term harm to your Havanese and promoting health problems such as joint laxity and arthritis.
The following excerpt from Dr. Zink is very applicable to the Havanese breed since Havanese are well known for their “run like crazy” activity and are commonly used in agility competitions…
“….The dewclaws have the important function of reducing the torque that is applied to the front legs, especially when dogs are turning at a canter… Without the gripping action of the dog’s “thumbs” there is more stress on the ligaments of the carpus. This may cause the ligaments to stretch and tear over time, resulting in joint laxity and ultimately, in arthritis.” (excerpt from “Dogs in Canada” article by Chris Zink DVM.,Ph.D)

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/06/03/synflex-the-truth-behind-natural-pain-relief-and-synflex/
Synflex - The Truth Behind Natural Pain Relief and Synflex
Synflex Vs Painkillers That Cause Pain, natural pain relief and Synflex.
So your arthritis is kicking up again and as a dutiful sufferer you beeline to the medicine cabinet and take a painkiller. After an hour you don’t feel much relief. Or maybe you don’t feel any pain at all. But either way,did you just guarantee more pain in your future? Have you insured yourself of a future of long term agony and debilitation that you would not have had otherwise, just by the act of taking painkillers?
Get ready for an unpleasant surprise! The most likely answer is yes! Even if the painkiller seems to be working, even if your arthritis pain is gone, all you have really done is guarantee yourself more pain and more suffering in the future by taking those painkillers today!
But, how could you and millions of arthritic sufferers who are using painkillers be harming yourselves with them? Even those taken by doctor’s prescription and with their approval? Well lets see, answer these vital questions…
Have you treated your arthritis pain with any painkillers within the last 7 days?
Do you now have, or have you ever gotten a prescription for your arthritis pain?
Are you concerned that you may be taking these drugs for the rest of your life? Do you wonder if a nutritional supplement like Synflex be better for you?
A yes answer to any of the above questions entitles you to know that you can cure arthritis through natural, and nutritional means and thus eliminate your arthritis pain naturally, and never need arthritis painkilling drugs again!
Painkillers That Cause Pain
Now I do believe pharmaceuticals and especially pharmaceutical painkillers do hold irreplaceable positions in medicine chests. I myself have taken plenty of pain killers to counter pain from strains and sprains and the like. The trouble arises when people take arthritis pain killers for any great length of time.
To begin with, it is important to know that actually curing the arthritic condition would require rebuilding and restoring the cartilage and, or restoring the muscles around the arthritic joint. Sufferers usually take some form of drug to reduce inflammation and wipe out pain. But, the real problem is generated when the joint is in pain and you can’t feel it, enabling you to even forget about your condition. You could take a painkiller and then spend the next few hours feeling mobile and great but in the process, you’re killing the overstressed joint without even knowing it. And thus the unaware arthritic patient severely damages the joint and the remaining cartilage, and feels great while doing it!
So is death a fair exchange for pain relief?
Let’s say you were mowing the lawn and you’re wearing your full head phones with your ipod , you’re enjoying your music, it’s loud to cover the mower hum. And the mower is handling fine. Then comes the fatal engine shudder, and the blue-grey puff of smoke. You whip off your big headphones just in time to hear an awful metallic shearing sound. And then you’re wishing that your college course load had included a course in small motor repair as you hand over your mower to the repair guy smiling dollar signs at you. Your wallet shivers at that smile. He asks, didn’t it sound like the motor was in distress for awhile just before it blew? Why didn’t you shut it off back then? Of course you heard nothing but your music. So you were unaware of your mower’s cries for help right up until it died. This is the same as taking painkillers to treat your arthritis pain. The painkillers mask the main symptoms and help you forget about the problem, even ignore it. Guaranteeing you will soon have to deal with a bigger problem.
Painkillers could also cause intestinal bleeding and even worse problems that could kill you. Over 2000 suffers died in this way last year. So is death a fair exchange for pain relief?
Enticing Your Body To Heal
On the whole, scientists are astonished by the amazing functions of human physiology. And arthritic specialists and research scientists are just as astonished. Because under the proper circumstances the body can actually cure chronic illnesses, including arthritis.
It absolutely must be noted that primitive tribes, totally free of the western type diet, are totally free of arthritis and many other modern ailments. That is until one generation have been exposed to the western diet and living conditions. Then all the typical western aliments and illnesses begin to appear with increasing frequency until they equal levels in other western cultures.
Curing Arthritis Forever And Naturally
Here are some tips that will allow you to begin to feel some positive results in the next couple weeks.
5 Points To Address For Treatment
1. Target your sugar consumption! Arthritis has been associated with high levels of sucrose (refined sugar). Begin to cut yourself off of sweets and replace them with healthy alternatives like your favorite fruits or smoothies.
2. Stop drinking from cans immediately. Yes that includes all your favorite canned drinks. Canned or processed foods contain preservatives and other food additives that government agencies say are fine. But when these same ingredients are added to the diets of former primitives, they begin to get sick with all our chronic dieseases. Draw your own conclusions. Start this week with a water flush which could be tough but is achievable. For the caffeine kick in the morning eat an apple. Their are many varieties. Again, it’s tough but it’s achievable.
3. Inhale for Health! Most folks bodies are failing for lack of oxygen. You need to give your joints more oxygen to beat pain. Learn some deep breathing exercises you can do as you go about your daily routine.
4. Exercise! Yeah, you may hate to hear that word. But you must initiate a weight training program to gain more muscle mass. More muscle mass will take stress off of your body and joints. Plus you’ll enjoy the added benefits of looking good and feeling better too.

10 Simple Facts About Demodectic Mange Treatment Explained
If you’re wanting some simple facts about demodectic mange treatment, then you will want to read this article.
You will get an idea about what is involved in treatment, if demodex mange is contagious and what important nutrient is needed to speed up treatment.
After reading this article, you will be able to get by your dog’s demodex mange treatment with no stress involved. Wonder what the vet suggest for treatment? Keep reading to find out what medications they will prescribe to your dog and if they really do work or not.
The 10 simple facts are:
1. Demodex mange can be cured by developing the dogs immune system.
2. Demodectic mange treatment doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars.
3. Treatment doesn’t have to involve chemicals like most vets suggest.
4. It’s better to use all natural shampoos or shampoos that contain benzoyle peroxide during treatment.
5. Demodectic mange is not contagious.
6. Omega 3 fatty acids are extremely important to provide.
7. Getting your dog plenty of exercise makes a difference in the treatment.
8. Giving your dog a bath 2-3 times a month keeps the dog’s skin conditioned as well clean.
9. Preventing as much stress possible for your dog is recommended.
10. 90% of dogs affected do not need treatment and can fight off the mites themselves.
A lot of dogs can get mange. Treatment at the moment can seem impossible to succeed at that’s normal. By developing your dogs immune system and keeping your dog away from dirt you will treat mange. As the immune system develops it becomes strong enough to fight off skin conditions such as mange.
The vet will usually suggest one of the following three treatments:
1. Amitraz – This involves trips to vet every two weeks to apply the Amitraz dip.
2. Goodwinol ointment – Applied to the skin this ointment reduces the number of mites on your dog, generally for localized demodex mange.
3. Ivermectin – Giving this liquid daily to your dog does a good job getting rid of the mange and decreasing the irritation for your dog.
4. Benzoyle peroxide shampoo – This is a medicated shampoo specifically for dogs. It contains benzoyle peroxide which deep cleans your dogs skin.
All of the medications recommended may or may not work. They might also contain chemicals your not willing to use on your dog.
The way demodex mange affects dogs is terrible. It can do some real damage to some dogs.
Luckily, if the dog has a faithful owner who follows through with treatment they are able to survive and overcome the demodex mange.

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/06/01/what-can-you-do-for-a-dog-who-has-bad-back-legs-3/
What Can You Do For a Dog Who Has Bad Back Legs?
If you have a dog with hind leg problems, there are some things you can do to help him be more comfortable. First of all, you should always take a dog with a sudden and unexplained onset of any problem to the vet. They will be able to run tests on your pooch and determine what treatments or medicines he may need to help his condition improve. But you may want to help your dog personally, so you still find yourself wondering, what can you do for a dog who has bad back legs?
Other than a vet visit, you can offer a comfortable place for your dog to rest. If he has trouble standing because of his bad back legs, he will want to lay down most if not all of the time. You could also try massaging his hind legs gently. This does not always work, however, as some problems lead to the area to become very tender and hurt when touched. Other times, the hind quarters of the animal become extremely ticklish, so a massage does more harm than good. In cases of minor muscle strains, massages can be very beneficial. This is the first possible solution for what can you do for a dog who has bad back legs.
When it comes time for your dog to move to go to the bathroom or whatever the case may be, you may need to carry him if the situation is severe enough, or at least assist him in getting on his feet. Watch him closely for signs of severe discomfort and aid him in whatever way you can while being very gentle and careful. Other than these techniques, there is not much more you can do to answer the question, what can you do for a dog who has bad back legs?
If your dog is older, it may be joint issues or arthritis. There are several forms of canine arthritis, which includes: osteoarthritis which is a degeneration of the cartilage in the joints and is prevalent in dogs; rheumatoid arthritis wherein the immune system attacks the body and usually the joint areas; infective; and idiopathic which means the cause is unknown. So, you should visit the vet. Perhaps your dog is overweight, so exercise is in order. Or, surgical repair of damaged ligaments might be the answer. Some dogs have even been helped by taking anti-inflammatory medications like buffered aspirin. Some dog parents have tried and believe that alternative or holistic remedies like acupuncture and herbal medicines are the answer for a dog that has bad back legs.
On the other hand, perhaps your pooch was injured and has a strained muscle or it could even be a thyroid issue. What you want to do right now is stop speculating. Since you are not a veterinarian, you cannot diagnose your dog. Take him to the vet to identify the real issue and how to treat it.

Cure For Lower Back Pain - How You Can Go "Medieval" on Your Pain and Outmaneuver it Today!
The most common reason why lower back pain thrives is due to fact that many people ignore it until it is too late. I sincerely hope that this is not the case for you because you can actually access a fantastic cure for lower back pain today if you act quickly.
Lower back pain can be caused by many things. A few of these include; automobile injury to the back, a tensed muscle, a pinched sciatic nerve which results due to the inflammation of surrounding muscles, menstrual cramps, fibroid tumors, endometriosis, osteoporosis or osteoarthritis, excess weight, lack of exercise, infections, slipped discs, smoking, and so on.
So now that we know what the causes might be, how do we get rid of the pain already? Well, read on…
You can start by performing low impact exercise routines particularly yoga. Yoga is often mistaken to be only useful as a calming exercise; this is not the case at all. Performing yoga routines can help to relieve lower back pain and strengthen your bones and your spine. If you achieve these, then your spine and bones will become more pliant and more able to resist stress.
Did I hear you say; “but yoga is not medieval?” Well, I hope I did not because you can bet your farm on the fact that it is. And then there is more…
Calcium – “For strong bones and teeth” and also for strengthening your cartilage too. Make sure that you incorporate a lot of calcium into your daily diet so that you are fortified enough to counteract the pain.
And now for the real medieval stuff: Herbs…
If you think that herbs are new, then you really have another “think” coming. Herbs have been around since the Garden of Eden. For those who do not know what the Garden of Eden is (or where it is at), then allow me to state the previous statement in another way: Herbs have been around since the beginning of time…
They have been proven to be very effective in curing a lot of conditions and ailments since then so much so that they have formed the base compounds of many of today’s effective drugs.
To cure lower back pain, you might want to opt for the following herbs; arthcare oil, lemon, turpentine Oil, potato, zanthoxylum clava herculis, German chamomile, burdock, devil’s claw, etcetera.
Herbs work as a temporary remedy for this condition, but you need to access a permanent cure right? If so, you need to read on to the next page where you will get access an innovative cure which thousands of former back pain sufferers used to stop their pain completely once and for all. Read on…
FACT: Most conventional treatments for back trouble only work as a temporary band aid solution; they all fail to work in the long run!

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/05/29/causes-of-water-retention-10-common-reasons-for-swelling-of-the-body/
Causes of Water Retention - 10 Common Reasons For Swelling of the Body
Water retention is a common health problem that greatly affects the day to day activities of the sufferers. Water retention – medically referred to as edema – is the accumulation of excess fluid that leaks into the body tissues. The leakage will lead to swelling in all over the body (generalized swelling) or more localized swelling, such as swelling in legs, feet and ankles or fluid retention in abdominal, the face, hands, arms, and around the lungs.
Although there are many different conditions and diseases associated with the term water retention or edema, there are several more prominent causes of water retention. And here is some of them:
1. Arthritis Arthritis, which means “joint inflammation”, is described as an inflammation of one or more joints that involves the mechanical failure of cartilage resulting in joint pain, swelling, and limited movement. It can affect any joints in the body from hip, heel, spine, shoulder, knee to the big toe.
There are more than 100 different types of arthritis but the three most common types are: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Different types of arthritis show different symptoms. Common symptoms of arthritis include: persistent joint pain, fever, tenderness, joint swelling, stiffness, redness, joint malformation, inflexibility of joint and unexplained weight loss.
2. Kidney disorders Certain form of kidney disorders such as kidney failure and glomerular disease will lead to swelling throughout the body as well as localized swelling in the abdominal, ankle, feet and leg swelling. This occurs because the kidneys have lost its normal functions including to efficiently removing salt and water out of the body. This will in turn cause the body to retain fluid and over time, get accumulated in the body tissues.
3. Chronic lung disease Chronic lung disease is a general term of persistent lung disorders that damage the function of the lungs. Severe chronic lung disease will cause water retention in the body include fluid retention in lungs (pulmonary edema), ascites, neck, face, ankle and feet swelling. Chronic lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), smoke inhalation injury, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), lung cancer, mesothelioma, etc. may lead to pulmonary edema, abdominal edema / ascites, fluid retention in the neck and face, swelling in the ankles and feet.
4. Cirrhosis of the liver Cirrhosis of the liver usually causes abdominal fluid retention. It also causes low protein albumin synthesis by the liver and results in legs and abdominal fluid retention.
5. Congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy disease and heart valve disease Congestive heart failure obstructs the normal circulation of the blood and often leads to water retention. Two most common causes of water retention in congestive heart failure patient are: (1) the blood flow to the heart backups and leaks into the lung and vein; (2) the kidney retain fluid due to the insufficient amount of blood flow. Both cardiomyopathy and heart valve disease are a variety of heart disease and lead to heart failure.
6. Excess sodium intake In people who are more sensitive to sodium, excess sodium intake will raise the blood pressure and lead to water retention especially in the lower extremities such as swelling in the ankles and feet.
7. Gravity Standing or sitting too long in one position because of occupation necessity or after long trips may cause fluid retention in legs. This is usually worsened in high temperatures.
8. Pregnancy In some cases, the developing uterus in pregnant women may press the vena cava leading to fluid retention in the legs. Hormone imbalances and increased amount of blood flow also responsible for water retention during pregnancy. The most affected areas of swelling during pregnancy are in the lower extremities especially the ankles and feet.
9. Side effects of certain medication Certain medication such as anabolic steroid, calcium channel blockers, levitra, methadone, etc. may affect the normal functions of the body and lead to swelling particularly in the legs, feet and ankles.
10. Venous Insufficiency Venous insufficiency is a disturbance of the blood flow in the leg veins because of the damage of the veins itself or the valves causing the fluid to backup and leak into the surrounding tissues. This disorder is one of the most common causes of water retention in legs.
Look over the list of water retention causes and decide if you are indeed experiencing one or more. Remember, many diseases take years to appear after the symptom does. Thus, you should speak to your doctor if you have any questions regarding water retention in any parts of your body. Your doctor is the one who can tell you just what exactly the cause of your swelling and what treatment options will work best for you.

The other ingredient in the Bhairav Pain Relief Kit is the Bhairav Massage Powder, and a host of herbs, including Revendchini, Amba Haldi, Gugal and Maida lakdi are used for formulating the Bhairav massage powder.
Bhairav massage powder, just like the Bhairav oil is easy to use and is vastly helpful for even complicated cases of orthopedic issues. It revitalizes and strengthens the bones and joints, and the individual is empowered to lead a normal and happy lifestyle all over again.
The Bhairav massage powder is easy to use:-
1. Take about 4 gm (1 spoon) of Bhairav massage powder and mix it with some lukewarm water to make it into a paste.
2. Apply the paste on the pain area in a gentle massaging motion.
3. Wrap a bandage cloth on the paste securely to ensure that it remains intact for a few hours.
4. It is recommended to perform this before bedtime to achieve maximum benefit.
5. In the morning, wash it off with lukewarm water and massage gently with Bhairav Oil.
IN A VERY GENERIC WAY, THE BHAIRAV PAIN RELIEF KIT IS BENEFICIAL TO
o Enhance blood circulation
o Reduce pain and inflammation
o Strengthen supporting muscles
o Calcify bones & prevent damage
o Enhance lubrication in bone joints
o Reduce the rate of cartilage damage

Avoid Back Pain From Playing The Guitar
Playing an instrument is a rewarding pastime for some and a way of life for others. Whatever your level of investment in your instrument, you may find that you experience pain after practicing, especially if you practice for a long period of time.
Whether sitting or standing, right-handed or left, you are using one side of your body differently than the other when playing guitar. The shoulder, hand and forearm on the side that you use to navigate the fretboard are working more than those on your strumming side. If you stand when playing, this imbalance is exacerbated by the strap. Right-handed players support the weight of their guitar on the left side, which is also the fretting side, and vice versa for left-handed players. The extra work these muscles do causes them to become tense and shortened after prolonged use. Muscles that are tight become weak, as they are not flexible enough to perform work without possible injury. This can cause the muscles of the other side to attempt to compensate for them throughout your day, leading to tightness on that side as well.
The following tips will help to prevent neck, shoulder and back pain caused by overuse when playing the guitar.
Warming Up
You may think that a warmup for guitar playing means finger exercises on the fretboard. These are important, both for playing quality and for your finger and forearm muscles. However, the rest of your body should be warmed up, too. The neck, back, shoulders and hips should be stretched before your practice session. This ensures that the muscles are flexible and have received fresh nutrients and oxygen from increased blood flow to perform work with.
Proper Posture
One of the most important postural tips to keep in mind when playing guitar is to keep your shoulders low and you spine straight. Many people, especially new players, will hunch over the instrument sitting down and tense their shoulders as they concentrate on their playing. Body awareness is one of your best protections against poor posture when playing guitar. Whether you’re sitting or standing, make every effort not to hunch over the guitar. For new players or those used to looking at the fretboard, this may take some practice. Begin relying on the dots that indicate fret numbers on the side of your guitar’s neck, or make your own indicators with colorful tape. Keep your neck as upright as possible. Make sure your shoulders are not creeping up toward your head.
If standing, play around with the length of your guitar strap. Some people prefer to keep the guitar low, while others like it very high. Ergonomically, the best position is that which sets the weight of the guitar’s body at your center of gravity, which is around navel level for men and hip level for women. If the guitar is lower, your shoulder strain will increase. If it is higher, you may find yourself raising your shoulders. Check out the DuoStrap, designed to allow the weight of your guitar to be shared by both shoulders: http://www.gruvgear.com/duostrap-signature.
Seating position for standard guitars involves resting the “waist” of the guitar (the indent between the upper and lower half of the body) on the thigh of your strumming side with your legs in an open stance. Resist the temptation to cross your legs; this causes your body to twist, increasing stress on your hip muscles, spine and lower back muscles. Your strumming arm should rest lightly on the lower half of the guitar. Classical guitarists support the weight of the guitar on the thigh of the fretting side with the neck pointing more upward. Classical or standard, your shoulders should be low and loose.
Those who would like to learn more about proper body mechanics, both when playing and not, should refer to the Alexander Technique. See their website at http://www.alexandertechnique.com/ for more information.
Breaks
Some people can grab their guitars and stay put for hours, but your initial warmup won’t keep your muscles loose for that long. After half an hour of play, take a break and move around. If you play sitting, stand up and allow your hip muscles to elongate. If you play standing, give your legs a break and take a seat. Repeat your warmup stretches. Taking a two-minute break every half hour or so will allow your muscles to refresh themselves.
Playing guitar shouldn’t cause you pain. Paying attention to posture, warming up and taking breaks will help to prevent back pain during your practice sessions.

Arthritis in Your Hips? Nordic Walking May Help You Get Rid of Your Hip Pain
You have powerful muscles that surround your hip joint. Sometimes these muscles get “out of balance.” Some get used and some don’t. This creates stress on the joint. When muscles pull on bones in a different way than they were designed to–more pull on one side than on another–it creates little bony spurs or bumps. Those little bone spurs are arthritis. But, you can have hip pain whether you have arthritis or not. Many times hip pain comes from your muscles!
If your hips hurt, you might wish to consider walking a different way.
Nordic Walking uses poles to help balance you and might help people with hip pain more than using a cane. If you are walking with a cane, that cane supports you on only one side. But, walking with a pole in each hand gives you support on both sides and helps propel you forward.
The poles also cause you to swing your arms in a good, neutral position. When you walk, you are supposed to swing your arms next to your body rather than in front of (across) your body. Your thumbs should point upward as they do when you shake hands. When you swing your arms correctly as you walk you use all of your upper body muscles as they were designed to be used.
Holding the walking poles puts your hands in the correct neutral position. So, Nordic Walking gives you a good upper body workout as well as your legs, hips and abdomen.
Why is walking good for your hips?
We get into pain when we get out of muscular balance. Walking is what we were designed to do. We are supposed to move. We are built to walk for miles and miles. Honest!
But, long hours of sitting and other lifestyle changes caused some muscles to become “too tight” and others to become weak. Walking changes all of that. Walking helps get all of the muscles around your hip joint strong and balanced, each with the other.
Maybe you can’t walk so easily anymore. You might be able to do Nordic Walking or you simply might not. You will have to really consider your body and how you feel, and you might want to check with your doctor.
You can watch a video about Nordic Walking at the website “Live Healthy By Walking dot com”. When you watch the video, you might think, “They are walking way too fast. I could never do that.” Well, maybe you can’t do it right now, but if you start walking gradually at the pace you can manage comfortably, your hips will start to get happier and stronger. Using the walking poles might be a helpful way for you to begin to walk.
You can also read Rosalie’s inspirational story when you are there. You’ll discover how she’s getting rid of her hip pain with walking.

A Chiropractor's Role With Neck Pain and Stiffness in Ballet Training
When a ballet dancer’s core muscles are weak, or when a dancer is working an intense schedule without enough recovery time, where does the strain go? Often to the neck and shoulders.
Ballet dancers (and other style dancers) will typically work with increasing tension and strain, aching muscles, and mild pain, until the condition develops to the point of an acute and sharp neck pain. They will start to feel an extreme stiffness of their neck, having difficulty moving it in any direction. When the pain reaches its worst level, it might be accompanied by shooting pain down into both shoulders and perhaps even to the elbows.
This kind of discomfort may develop very gradually, so there is not necessarily personal neglect involved. Usually the pain is less in the morning, although the stiffness is noticeable. With additional time and attention given to warming up the neck and upper back, a good part of a heavy rehearsal day, starting with class, could be danced well with tolerance of the discomfort. Most likely, however, as the day goes on, the pain increases, often described as a “stabbing pain”, with certain movements. The neck stiffness can return despite the dancer being warmed up. The strain becomes visible to others, watching or coaching.
At this point a dancer will be forced to take time out to seek professional help. Upon examination by a chiropractor, for example, it will be found that the back of the neck and mid back muscles are in tight spasm. The muscles under the chin may be in spasm as well, holding the head at a downward angle. The dancer easily understands that he/she has made this condition worse by working with the head not centered over the shoulders. (When the postural plumb line is violated in any way, extra muscle gripping will show up, as the body always finds a way to compensate and “balance” itself).
What is alarming is that, by viewing an x-ray of this kind of neck, it can be seen that the normal curve is not only decreased, but has reversed! And, quite distressing news to a young ballet dancer, the front of the middle neck bones may be severely degenerated, because of the chronic pressure on the front of them.
This curve reversal is all too common among classically trained dancers. Traditional ballet positions demand that the neck appear tall and straight. Although no harm is intended, the muscles along the front of the neck get stronger and stronger. This development straightens the neck bones, and continues through the years of training, until the normal curve reverses. The front of the neck bones actually start to grind, and gradually arthritis sets in.
The goal of chiropractic care would be to re-mobilize the neck bones that are locked in spasm, along with releasing the chronic tension of the shoulder and upper back muscles. Early treatment can prevent the development of the reversed curve, and eventual arthritis. The tight neck muscles can be relaxed and stretched, relieving the compression that reduces the natural curve. Massage, machine traction and a supportive pillow for sleeping can all contribute to chiropractic treatment, countering the harmful tendencies that have become a habit for the ballet dancer.
The neck of a ballet dancer can be held in a tall and slightly straightened position without leading to harm. All ballet students need to understand how to relax and stretch properly, as well as how to strengthen the core muscles to prevent neck strain and back pain. Education will prevent ballet dance injuries.
Take advantage of the available dance education that is on line and in the stores. There is so much information! Dance smart!

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/05/24/causes-of-hip-and-buttock-pain/
Causes of Hip And Buttock Pain
Hip buttock pain may be triggered by many different causes and conditions. The goal of this article is to briefly list and describe the most common causes of hip buttock pain, but only a doctor can diagnose the source of your discomfort and recommend ways to get relief.
Pain in the hip and buttocks areas are, more often than not, caused by issues related to the nerves, muscles and blood vessels.
Of all the possibilities, a condition known as sciatica is probably accounts for the most frequent complaints. The word sciatica comes from the sciatic nerve, which is one of the largest and longest nerves in the human body. The sciatic nerve travels from the spine all the way down to the feet. It passes through the buttocks and hips, and when there’s a problem with it, the result is hip buttock pain.
There are a number of ways this nerve can cause problems. Most often, it is damaged when you have to sit in the same position for a long time. Professional truck drivers and those who sit all day in cubicles or office settings are candidates for sciatica. When the sciatic nerve is compressed by an injury or by sitting too long, it causes stinging buttock and hip pain that can be intense and distressing.
A similar cause of hip buttock pain is a pinched nerve. This can happen anywhere in the body, of course, but when it happens in the hip and buttock area it can be especially uncomfortable. Sitting, standing, and walking can be difficult, and at times you may feel as if you can’t get comfortable.
Another type of nerve pain that affects the hips and buttocks is called referred pain. This happens when there’s damage to a nerve somewhere else in the body (usually the spine). The pain follows a nerve pathway and “hurts” in a location different from the origin of the problem.
Piriformis syndrome is another source of hip buttock pain. A muscle called the piriformis is located deep within the buttocks. When there is damage to this muscle, the pain can range from mild to intense.
Claudication is a problem involving blood vessels in the hip and buttock region. If these blood vessels don’t get an adequate supply of blood, pain will result. Claudication usually involves a blockage or obstruction in an artery, and the pain is worst when you’re walking or exercising. If the pain stops when you rest, you probably have a claudication problem somewhere.
Claudication can be a symptom of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which is caused by a blockage or narrowing of arteries in the legs. Reduced blood flow to the muscles in the buttock region triggers pain in the hip.
Bone, joint and soft tissue problems are sometimes the cause of hip buttock pain. Arthritis causes inflammation of the joints, and since the hips are among the largest joints in the body, arthritis in the hip area can be especially unpleasant.
One of the most painful joint conditions is known as sacroiliitis. Sacroiliitis occurs due to inflammation in one or both of the sacroiliac joints, which are major joints in the lower back and pelvis. Sacroiliitis can be caused by many other illnesses and conditions, including injuries, arthritis, or an infection.
Bursitis pain comes from an inflammation of the fluid-filled sac between a tendon and bone. Several different kinds of bursitis can affect the buttocks and hips.
Osteoporosis is particularly common among the elderly, and it sometimes results in hip buttock pain. Osteoporosis causes the bones of the pelvis to become weak and brittle.
Other possible causes of hip buttock pain include a number of diseases involving organs of the abdomen. There are, unfortunately, several different kinds of cancer that can cause discomfort in the pelvic area. Cancer can occur in the bones of the pelvis themselves, as well as other bones nearby.
Colon cancer and rectal cancer don’t usually present symptoms at first. But when they advance to a later stage, hip and buttock pain are prominent signs.
Finally, pregnancy can be a cause of hip and buttock pain. Carrying the extra weight of an unborn child places a strain on the muscles of a woman’s lower back, hips and buttocks. This pain usually goes away after childbirth.
Once again, the intent of this article was to give you an overview of the most common causes of hip buttock pain. Your doctor, however, is always your best source for information about causes and treatment.

Can Alcohol Help Your Back Pain?
A lot of people report that they feel more relaxed or numb once the “buzz” of a few drinks hits their system. But does this mean that alcohol can help relieve back pain? Others report that they actually experience an increase in back pain when they enjoy an alcoholic beverage. What’s really going on here?
To be honest, it really depends on what the cause of your back pain is. If the pain is due to a tense or contracted muscle that is putting pressure on the Sciatic nerve, for example, drinking alcohol may actually help.
For example, I used to suffer from Piriformis syndrome, which is a tense muscle in the pelvis that cause pain by crushing the Sciatic nerve. I found that an occasional drink would actually help to relax the muscles in my body and release the tension in my Pirifomris.
Now, this isn’t an excuse to abuse alcohol. If you are suffering from pain caused by muscle tension, then you need to address this by naturally loosening the muscles and releasing the tension. The best way to do this is by stretching out the muscles and helping them to relax.
Relying on alcohol to treat back pain in this way is like using painkillers to treat back pain. You don’t really deal with the underlying problem, you are just temporarily getting rid of the pain. Never use alcohol as a “solution” to your back pain problem.
However, some people also complain of back pain that occurs when they drink alcohol.
Alcohol can also cause inflammation in your body too, which in turn can promote back pain. In this way, alcohol can be a double edged sword. On one hand, it can help to relax muscles, but at the same time, it may promote inflammation.
The story doesn’t end there though.
Now, I’m not a medical professional, so you should probably talk to your doctor about this. However, I do know that people can develop kidney stones which can cause pain like this.
Your kidneys are located in your lower torso and pain in your kidneys can easily be mistaken for a general pain in your back.
Alcohol acts as a diuretic, which means that it makes you have to urinate. When this happens, your kidneys produce more urine. But if there is an obstruction in your kidneys such as a kidney stone that might interfere with the production of urine, then you could experience pain.
If this is the cause of your pain, then other fluids such as coffee should also cause back pain to present itself.
There could be other causes to your pain as well. It can be difficult to diagnose the cause of back pain without knowing more about you and your lifestyle and overall health. It is important to seek the advice of your doctor to get a better understanding about what is behind the pain. Again, alcohol should not be used as a way to treat pain or to cope with any sort of health condition you may be suffering from.

Penis Function May Be Impacted by Rheumatoid Arthritis
Many young men think arthritis is a problem only for older women – and that myth may be dangerous to their penis function. While it is true that rheumatoid arthritis is three times as likely to occur in women, a significant number of men make up the 1.5 million Americans that suffer from it – and not all of those men are older. Guys who want to exercise proper penis care need to know that even men in their 20s can be in the early stages of rheumatoid arthritis. They also need to know just how this condition could affect their much-prized penis function.
What is rheumatoid arthritis?
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic disease of the joints caused by an autoimmune reaction. For some reason, a person’s body starts to interpret the linings of the joints as “foreign” – that is, not a natural part of the body and therefore a threat – and it develops ways to attack those linings in a misguided attempt to protect the body.
This results in sometimes significant pain and stiffness in the joints, especially those in the hands and feet.
Penis function
Having arthritis is bad enough, but it can also negatively affect a man’s penis function. One 2012 clinical study found that almost two-thirds of men with rheumatoid arthritis reported having some degree of erectile dysfunction.
So why does arthritis have an impact on penis function? The logical assumption would be that the immune system is attacking the penis itself, but that’s not exactly the case. The penis is not a joint and so the immune system doesn’t have it on its misguided radar system.
Rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation, and it is believed that this inflammation may extend to penile blood vessels. The inflammation prevents the blood vessels from operating in the proper manner, so that when a man becomes aroused and blood is supposed to rush into the penis, it is not able to do so properly.
To make matters worse, some medications used to treat arthritis are believed to potentially impact penis function (and not in a positive way).
Other issues
But the inflammation is not the only issue that men with arthritis may encounter. Studies also indicate that men with rheumatoid arthritis typically also have lowered levels of testosterone, which in turn can lead to a depressed libido.
In addition, many people with arthritis find it affects them mentally and emotionally as well. Patients are more likely to experience higher levels of depression, and this is also a factor both in lowering sex drive and in affecting erectile function.
Finally, the significant pain associated with arthritis can play a role. It may be difficult to obtain and/or maintain a workable sexual position due to the pains in other parts of the body, decreasing the enjoyment of or even the physical functioning of a sexual experience.
Treatment
Men who suspect they have rheumatoid arthritis should promptly visit a doctor in order to get a diagnosis. Early diagnosis means that treatment can be initiated earlier, which increases the possibility of a positive outcome.
Men also need to help maintain penile function, whether they have arthritis or not, by paying proper attention to the overall health of the penis. Daily application of a top drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is suggested to help maintain a healthy piece of equipment. Men like to feel that their penis has a certain degree of firmness, and a crème with vitamin C can be useful in that regard. Vitamin C is an essential component of collagen production, which is useful in maintaining penile firmness. The best cremes also contain L-arginine, an amino acid that helps penile blood vessels dilate and be more receptive to a larger influx of blood.

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/05/21/osteo-arthritis-its-important-to-avoid-aggravating-foods-3/
Osteo Arthritis - It's Important to Avoid Aggravating Foods
There are many causes of osteo arthritis and climate and diet are among them. We can’t all live in a warm, Mediterranean climate, which helps to prevent our joints becoming cold and stiff. But we can all watch what we eat and drink as many of us are aggravating our condition with toxic products.
Three main types of food aggravate arthritis:
Dairy products Various acidic foods and drinks Wheat products
Dairy products, like milk, butter and cheese are hard for the human body to digest. Cows have two stomachs and the milk meant for their calves grows big bones and small brains. It’s not strictly for humans, especially if your body can’t copy with it.
One lecturer who talked about arthritis showed her audience her hands and knuckles, which were completely flexible. She drank a glass of milk and within 20 minutes her knuckles and joints had swollen and she was unable to make a fist. She was allergic to cows milk.
Dairy products leave fat deposits in the body, upset the stomach and clog up circulation. They also encourage the development of catarrh in children, which can lead to sinus and adenoid problems.
As a replacement you might try other milks and cheese, from goat’s milk, sheep’s milk or soya. They are much better for the arthritic, as well, it might be said, for people with allergy problems, like asthma.
Acid Foods, like rhubarb and citrus, aggravate the joints. Certain sharp fruits, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, are not good for the joints. Also carbonated fizzy drinks, alcohol and spicy foods and flavourings can cause acid to form in the stomach, and this goes into the joints.
Many natural practitioners recommend that the arthritic should have no fruit at all and this is true in many cases. People with extreme arthritis should follow this regime. Many however can do well by eating more gentle non-acid fruit, like grapes, cherries, apples, pears and banana.
You should see how you get on. If your arthritis doesn’t improve then cut out fruit altogether.
The third thing, Wheat, has become a staple of Western diet but again it is hard to digest. With many people it causes bloating and indigestion, which again puts acid into the blood and then the joints.
An experiment that gave farm animals a choice of different grains to eat found that they preferred other grains, like oats, rye, barley and corn to wheat, and only ate wheat if there was nothing else.
We can learn a lesson from that and should do the same. It is advisable to cut down on bread altogether, perhaps just having it once a day if necessary. The problems with wheat accumulate, the more you have it.
If you feel you need some bread you should consider switching to having a light rye bread, oat-based cereal for breakfast and cutting down on wheat-based sandwiches and wheat pasta.
Meat products, like beef, pork and lamb, are rather acidic and cause some of the graunching in shoulders and other joints. Ideally cut these out of your diet and just have a little free-range chicken and wild fish. Or alternatively have more vegetarian meals and just have meat once or twice a week.
You will feel better, will be less bloated and the joints will improve.

New Post has been published on http://flexeasy.net/index.php/2018/05/20/top-3-reasons-why-you-suffer-from-pain-in-the-back-of-the-knee-4/
Top 3 Reasons Why You Suffer From Pain In The Back Of The Knee
Pain behind the knee is something many of us have or might experience if we play sports that involve bending at the knees, running, tennis, or any activity that puts strain on the area.
Here are some things you need to keep in mind if you ever experience such pain behind the knee:
1. Possible Arthritis
This is one of the most common causes of pain in the knee. In fact, if you are over the age of 65 one in two of you have arthritis with the knee been one of the most common joints involved.
The pain of arthritis is usually a dull tooth ache pain that is occasionally sharp with sudden movements. The pain is usually located over your joint line (where the tibia meets the femur) and in the front of the knee. Mild and sometimes severe swelling is associated with this pain. The pain is worse when you exit a chair or car. It is also worse with any prolonged walking or standing. The pain is usually better with rest, heat (sometimes ice), wrapping the knee and pain medication.
Occasionally the knee may catch on the rough uneven surfaces of your cartilage. Patients often complain of grinding in the knee, and occasional popping.
2. Minor Tear of the Cartilage Surface
Rather then a cyst or fluid build-up, the causes of the pain behind the knee might simply be slight micro tears in the cartilage. This can be treated with the same solutions at the end of this article. Tears, if minor, require no surgery and will heal on their own depending on the time allowed for healing and if the activity that aggravates it is avoided.
3. Baker’s Cyst The cyst usually occurs due to some other problem in your knee such as arthritis or even a tear of your meniscus. The swelling from this problem causes fluid to build up in your knee. This fluid pushes out the weakest point of your joint capsule surrounding your knee. This is usually to the back portion of your knee capsule, and a cyst forms. The cyst has a valve made out of your joint capsule tissue. This valve can sometimes become clogged and the fluid becomes trapped in the cyst. Thus, even when the injury has resolved, you still have the swelling in the back of your knee. This is associated with pain usually described as dull and aching. The pain is worse with prolonged walking or standing. It is sometimes improved with rest, elevation and taking pain medication.
Many people agree that when it comes to pain behind the knee, the best plan of action is Control, Avoid, and Rehabilitate.
Control:
Cryotheraphy which involves putting ice on the area for 5 minutes at a time. This will help reduce the pain. Do not continue to apply ice if a burning sensation is felt.
Heat from a heating pad for 10-20 minutes on a lower setting may help reduce pain. Alternative methods include creams that create a heating sensation like Icy-Hot or AST BioFreeze gel.
Bracing from a comfortable knee brace can provide some needed relief and stability to the area, reducing the pressure on the area and thus; reducing the pain. There are many knee braces available that can be worn during activity or at any time where the area becomes bothersome.
Avoid:
There’s nothing special about this old saying. Simply avoid the activities that aggravate the pain and participate in ones that seem to help it. Making a list of things NOT to do and a list of things TO DO will be helpful in determining what makes the pain worse. Avoid activities that continue to make the pain worse or no better. This is typical advice. Pain is a warning signal.
Rehabilitate:
Talk to a Doctor and make a plan of action to rehabilitate the knee through controlled motions. Rehabilitation includes motivation to do the prescribed exercises. The correct exercises as prescribed and the proper equipment to keep the motions in controlled.
Pain behind the knee is very common in some many sports that you can suffer from this by doing almost anything from snowboarding to racquetball. By taking precautions in your sports and understanding what might cause this, will allow not only enjoyable sports activities, but a lifetime of activity.
