THE CROWN TUNDRA
Coming back from Alola after hearing her father, Conan, got into an accident at his work in the Crown Tundra, Gloria catches the train there with her mother and Victor. They rush to meet him in Gloria's grandparents house, where Sonia has been keeping Conan company as she was already visiting the Crown for a research project.
All these familiar faces have a happy reunion especially after realizing that his worst injury is a limp on his right leg after almost a week of bedrest. After they catch up, Conan tells them all about the accident in the Max Lair- telling them a dynamaxed Solgaleo appeared and caused a part of the cave to collapse. The shock of seeing a legendary pokemon (especially one with no ties to Galar) was a surprise of itself, though it ties into a bigger theory Conan's had for a while. He doesn't tell them his theory quite yet, needing more solid evidence before presenting it.
Conan regrets to inform them that the Max Lair is closed while they see what's stable and what's not, and asks if they could help him bring a sign to the entrance explaining the closure. Gloria, Victor, Palla, and Sonia accompany Conan to the Lair.
At the entrance, they see a trainer and his daughter arguing about the Lair’s status. Conan quickly recognizes the man and calls out to him, causing the other to yell and rush towards Gloria's dad with a grin and an energetic hug. Conan introduces the man as Peony, an old friend of his since he was young, and introduces the others; as well as Peony introducing his daughter Peonia to them all.
The Lair's closure doesn't seem to bother Peony that much, and he mentions he had a backup “adven-tour” to spend time on just in case. Palla suggests they all take part in the adven-tour together, but tells the others to go on ahead and start while her and Sonia help Conan's parents with the house for the guests. Peonia is dragged along despite her initial embarrassment.
With Peony’s clues, and Conan's hometown expertise, the five of them meet Calyrex. Using Peony's body, the pokemon communicates to them and they begin to search for the two steeds that would pull his chariot. Peony calls this part of the adven-tour “The Sacred Bonds of Sovereign and Steeds!”
They gather the carrot seeds and plant one in the Old Cemetery, and the other in the Snowslide Slopes. Conan and Gloria camp out at the Cemetery while Peony, Peonia, and Victor camp out in the Slopes with Calyrex. They see Glastrier and Spectrier, respectively, and see the pokemon run to Freezington.
Gloria fights Glastrier and Victor fights Spectrier to stop them from causing chaos in the town. After Calyrex wards the steeds away, they pick up the hair left behind by them both. Calyrex makes two petals for them and they return to the others to discuss with the others on how to make the reigns.
Meeting up with the Mayor, he tells them the reign’s history, and they all work together to make the reigns. Though Peony does most of the braiding work, and impresses Gloria on his craftsmanship and sewing skills. He promises to teach her how to sew her own clothes when she asks for his help. The five begin to go to the summit while Sonia and Palla finish up some loose ends to Sonia’s initial research.
They go to the Crown Shrine, where Calyrex talks about his steeds’ natures and that Glastrier is the more tame and forgiving where Spectrier is more aggressive and prideful. He says he will use one of the reigns to tame Spectrier again when she comes, but asks for the others' help in putting them on Glastrier again. They agree after Calyrex says the white horse won't be aggressive to them.
Glastrier is successful in being tamed, but at Calyrex’s surprise in trying to tame the other, Spectrier runs away in shock, dragging Calyrex along by the reins. Gloria and Conan take Glastrier and chase after them.
Forced to battle them one last time to avoid the horse from rampaging on the town again, Gloria calms Spectrier down enough for Calyrex to tame her again. They return to the others, and Calyrex thanks them for helping him reunite with his steeds and asks if he could have the honor of battling someone of his choosing in the group as a true test of his and his steeds’ powers. Conan is surprised when he is chosen, but accepts the battle.
Conan loses as he has little battle experience and a rather small team, but Calyrex approaches him after the battle and expresses a desire to travel with him. The king admits that his legacy may not be as great as it once was, but he wants to help the researcher rebuild the Crown Tundra into a place the locals can once again be proud of. Gloria gives her dad 3 pokeballs for the king and his steeds, and Peony calls the first adventure a resounding success and checks it to a close.
The group regroups at Gloria’s grandparents’ house, where the older couple insists everyone make themselves at home over their trip here. Over dinner, they swap stories, as well as Peony excitedly hinting at the next day’s adventures. They all decide to talk about it more in the morning, and Gloria’s grandma shows them all to their rooms.
Over breakfast, Peony tells them about his next adventures, rumors of titan pokemon he calls “The Terrible Titans… Lurking Locked Away!”, and odd birds at Dyna-Tree Hill he calls “A Legendary Tree of a Legendary Three!”. Palla excitedly asks for the titan case. She tells everyone that the titan pokemon have been her life long research project, but each time she got close to finding them with each puzzle, she lost them. Taking it as a chance to finally redeem herself, she asks if anyone else wants to come with her or check out the tree. Gloria and Sonia excitedly join her side for the titans. Peony volunteers himself and Conan for the Tree lead, to which Peonia immediately opts to join the other girls to avoid her dad. Victor assures her that he’ll keep an eye on her dad for her, and joins the hunt to the tree. The two groups depart, and promise to swap stories when they’re all done in a few days.
Sonia realizes the research she was doing previously on odd pokemon tracks was connected, and tells them about the various temples she found because of them. At Sonia’s directions, they find the original three titan’s lairs, where Palla figures out all the puzzles with ease. (Letting her pokemon hold an everstone at Regirock’s temple, Borrowing a Cryogonal from Gloria's boxes for Regice’s temple, and whistling at Registeel’s temple) Inside the temples, Gloria helps her mom battle the titans and weakens them for Palla to catch. Palla successfully catches all three, to where they followed the last clues to the Split-Decision Ruins.
Palla instructs Sonia and Peonia on which patterns to input on their respective sides of the temples, so both Regieleki and Regidrago come out of the shrines to battle. All four are prompted into battle with them, and when the titans are weakened, they all offer a pokeball to the titans. Regieleki chooses Sonia, where Regidrago chooses Peonia. Palla asks the two for future permission to study their pokemon, to which the two agree, but ask why Palla didn’t try to catch them outright herself. Telling them that her research had only ever revolved around the original three, she says she just wanted to do the final temple to finish the 2nd “adven-tour”.
Meanwhile, the guys had gone to check out the Tree where they witnessed and scared the three birds away. Based on the news on the Rotom phone, they narrow down the locations that they could have gone. They begin to hunt for Articuno, while Victor messages his brother and Hop for possible leads on the other birds.
They manage to find and outsmart Articuno fairly quickly, to which the bird shows favoritism to Victor until he throws a pokeball. After catching Articuno, they receive a call from Hop, who tells them the bird they described is out flying around the dojo.
Taking the newly captured legendary, they fly to the Isle of Armor. They meet up with Hop and fill him up on the adven-tour, and agree when he asks if he could join. He shows them where the Moltres was last seen, and the bird is keen again to battle Vic.
Once again catching the bird, they receive a call from Raihan, who tells his brother that bird of his is running around the Wild Area, and they agree to meet up in Motostoke.
Taking the now two birds to the mainland, the adventure group meets up with Raihan, who has Leon in tow from the battle they just finished. They join the group out of sheer curiosity, and help them trap the wandering Zapdos. Victor catches it after battling it with Hop, and the original group and their new three members take the birds back to the Crown Tundra to catch up with the other group.
The reunion dinner grows, as everyone greets the new three and all the new pokemon they’ve been chosen by. They swap their respective stories, and Peony calls the “Adven-tour” an overall success.
Though as everyone’s getting ready for bed, Conan pulls Palla aside to tell her of his theory. While he’s still not for certain, he has an ongoing hunch that there’s some sort of portal that was in the Max Lair, and that’s where the Solgaleo came from. He had a few pages of notes and data to suggest that the portal was interdimensional and large in size, and there was no explanation in the history of the Max Lair to support this theory. But as it stood as a hazard, he’s not able to get in there and get more proof of his theory, but expresses wishes to sneak in and look anyways.
Gloria, who had accidentally started to eavesdrop but stayed for the rest, hears the whole conversation and races to tell her friends in private. She proposes going in there instead of her father, not wanting him to risk his health and safety any further than he has, and asks Hop, Victor, and Peonia if they would help her. The three agree.
Limited to only taking out the pokemon who regularly dynamax due to risk of overexposure to Galar particles, Hop brings his Cinderace, Gloria her Toxtricity, Victor his Appleton, and Peonia her Duralodon.
As they venture through the cave, they fight regional variants that have no business being in Galar. Hop notes every off thing in his journal to discuss with Sonia later.
When they finally reach the final chamber on the route they chose, they see a large, uneven, portal open against the cave wall, with a creature in front of it though it is not moving. Gloria recognizes it as one of the Ultra Beasts (UB BURST) her cousin showed her, but says that it is not supposed to be here- that she only knew of the wormholes in Alola. Gloria and Hop get closer to the wormhole to get the data readings, while Vic and Peonia stand guard if the UB moves again.
The portal shifts again, causing a tremor in the caves. UB BURST wakes from the tremor, but targets Hop and Gloria despite the other two trying to divert its attention. Unnatural in its movements, it blocks the four from fully regrouping, and begins to power up a move that reminds Gloria of why it was given that UB title. She yells for Victor and Peonia to run just as the beast’s fireworks go off, causing the cave to shake violently.
The two others reluctantly escape as they realize the cave will collapse on them, promising to get help. Though as they leave, the UB begins to recover and go closer to the remaining trainers. With little other choice on where to run, Hop and Gloria jump into the portal just as another firework goes off and caves in the cavern.
