Do you think telepathy would be really useless in reality, because you'd actually have to learn how to speak with your mind when you had that ability? Like learning a new language?

So you spend years learning how to convey information in a structured manner to others, but how are they going to respond? They haven't learned how to communicate telepathically; they can only respond with everything they're thinking off at the moment, which just comes out as a Picasso painting of concepts with no structure at all.

And how could you teach someone else to think in a way that would allow them to communicate with you? You can't maintain a mental link with them for months to train them how to convey data in that form; the human brain just isn't designed to instinctively do that kind of thing.

So you resort to just using it as one-way communication. Because trying to have a mental conversation with someone else is like trying to sift all the salt out of the ocean. And because trying to convey complicated messages to unprepared minds always runs the risk of frying their brain or injuring them in some way, you can only use it to a limited capacity.

So there you are, a telepathic individual, who can't read minds and can only communicate through memes. Imagine that. What a superpower to have.
