holes fandom IM BACK AND TODAY ILL BE DISCUSSING THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BOOK AND MOVIE I LIKED AND DISLIKED

(future me, after writing this, it’s a lil weird i yoinked my name from zero but whatever he’s so gender so don’t mind that)

-1. first up, the things they didn’t have in the movie, my 2 fav scenes. the first one was when they’re on the mountain, after finding water—the flowers petal scene. in the book, zero is asleep, stanley is awake and watching him. there’s a good few paragraphs dedicated to stanley pretty much admiring him. basically for those who don’t know, there’s like a flower petal on zero’s face that goes back n forth as he breathes and Stanley notes that it’s like smth out of a cartoon. after a few MINUTES it falls and Stanley basically thinks “I wanna put it back but.. it wouldn’t be the same.” also he describes zeros face as “being lit in the moonlight” and if that aint romantic idk what is. THE MOVIE, MUCH TO MY DISMAY, DID NOT HAVE THIS.

-2. when they are walking back to the camp, they’re being stubborn lil bitches and are trying not to be the first to drink any water. their argument gives “you hang up first, ‘no YOU hang up first! 🤭” vibes. THE MOVIE ALSO DOESNT HAVE THAT AND I C R I E D

-3. however, the movie also has things the book doesn’t! for one, stanley thinking abt how he’s glad he’s on this mountain w zero, while in the book he’s just thinking it, in the movie him and zero are discussing it and it is so cute and fghkfjdjhdihbdhibdhibehibdi help

-4. also, the little things; in the book, after Mr. Pendanski says “nobody cares about hector zeroni” that’s kinda the end of the chapter or something. BUT IN THE MOVIE stanley walks in right after he says that, looks him dead in the eyes, and says, “I do.” and that broke me

-5. Another little thing—in that scene where Stanley gets his nickname of caveman, the the book, I don’t remember hearing from zero during that (I could be wrong tho). but, in the movie, as Stanley seems like he’s in a dangerous position, zero grabs a pool ball off the table (it’s implied that he’s gonna hit the guy antagonizing stanley) but after the situation cools down, there’s a shot of him putting it down. im telling you ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS AND THIS SCENE IS SCREAMING

-6.? idk if I misremember but in the movie they bring up like “damn Stanley, zero will only talk to you” and idk if that’s mentioned in the book or not but I don’t think so, the fact that one of the characters points it out like 2 or 3 separate times in the movie tho..

-7. the ending… pool party in the movie, boring normal ending in the books. end of story.

honorable mentions, both ONLY in the movie:

-I SQUEAL EVERY TIME I WATCH THE SCENE WHERE THEYRE OPENING THE CHEST AND FINDING OUT ABT THE MONEY AND THE.. THE WAY STANLEYS LIKE HOLDING ONTO ZERO AND JS MESSING WITH HIS HAIR?? I CANT

-also WHEN ZERO IS REUNITED W HIS MOM. Stanley is just standing there and admiring him I KNOW IT.

summary/tldr;

while some of my fav scenes from the book aren’t in the movie, the movie is SO much gayer and I love it so much and it’s the little things that bring me joy. they are so gay for each other in the movie I cannot even put this into words.

also zero def has a big gay crush on Stanley like immediately that’s just canon to me

time loop!au where odysseus is forced to continuously attempt to get home alive and he realizes that, no matter how hard he tries, he simply cannot save polites. it is weaved in the very fabric of his existence, his fate, and the only way that odysseus can ever get home is if polites does not come with him.

if it isn’t the cyclops, polites dies trying to protect his friends from the laestrygonians. if it isn’t the laestrygonians, he dies to poseidon’s hand as an example for odysseus’ disrespect. if it isn’t poseidon, he dies fighting circe because hermes is no longer there to help. if it isn’t circe, he dies fighting the souls of the underworld. if it isn’t the underworld, he dies falling for the siren’s song. if it isn’t the siren, he dies being struck by zeus’ lightning. if it isn’t lighting— oh, who am I kidding? it’s always the lightning.

polites will never make it— he can never make it. he falls victim to the narrative, the words of fate that dictate odysseus a hero in his own right. odysseus can only change if polites dies and he can only go home if he changes. with polites alive, he can never internalize what his morality means to him. with polites alive, he can never question his own judgment. with polites alive, odysseus remains fractured from the war and has no reason to fix it since, after all, you can still see yourself in a broken mirror.

it is no longer about choosing whose blood is on his hands, it’s about choosing which face he would rather see for the rest of his life. at least polites will only haunt his dreams.

Had this stupid little idea, but when rewatching "Your Light" it made me wonder what it would be like if it was released,

Like what if instead of Odysseus constantly hearing "This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms"

He would be hearing "Let me be your light, let me be the stars you see at night" and I feel like it could still work, considering the term your light could be used for a lot of things, even with Athenas little line of "And then his light went dark"

It feels like it would just hurt more in my opinion, because in open arms, it was a mindset Polites wants Odysseus to adapt to, but in your light, it was very intimate and sweet, because it was tied directly to their friendship, and considering that supposedly the souls in the underworld say their final thoughts, then during the fight with the cyclops, Polites was thinking of what he said to Odysseus, I don't know

Spoilers for the dragon prince season 7

Okay I'm done with season 7 which I DIDN'T KNOW EXISTED UNTIL TODAY but anyways ahem what the fuck.???? What??? I have no clue what was going on this entire time???

Okay somehow the threat felt smaller, the stakes felt weaker, and everyone has different things going on and it doesn't work together... This feels so rushed and random and... Bad? There are obviously good parts to it and sometimes I like the writing or character development but in general it feels like a fever dream. Why does Zym talk. Why did they randomly fly into the sky and die. Why are they now building a communism. What was even the point of the nova blade and the coin and what was the point of ANY OF THIS WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING?

I liked season 6. Maybe 5. But what. The actual. Fuck.

They literally paralleled their comic book... This was clearly to get past censorship 😭 "see what reading comics leads too?" and his mom being called the ruler 😭 and all the handholding and cuddling, they know they're gay for each other, we all know it, they literally say "kinda like us!" and "you don't think the relationship between (the two comic dudes??) are sentimental?" because it's an obvious implication that they're together 😭😭😭 the writers are just cowards OR being censored. Juleka and Rose's kiss was incredible censored. Even the writers said "death to the (Thomas astruc) author" 😭 I think it's ignoring the reality of the censorship to claim they're not together.I know this video was likely made with good intentions but the reason I hate it is because the writers are doing EVERYTHING possible to make them Canon while getting around censorship. This is potentially the closest we can get and it's pretty damn close. The kiss from their comic was in place explicitly of Marc and Nathaniels because it weaved its way around Thomas Asshole and the producers who believe the Hayes code is law. They danced at the dance, they hold hands and caress each other's faces and cuddle and talk about love. You're not the problem, the censorship is, but further invalidating the ship is hurtful because I think this is the closest we'll get with censorship.

I get stressed when shows skirt around saying "we are dating romantically and love each other romantically" In queer relationship because then people can get away with denying their relationships. We have plenty of evidence for them to be together. If this was a straight couple we wouldn't be having this conversation, it would be understood that they're together. Maybe I'm taking this too far in my brain but does anyone see what I'm saying 😭😭 this episode is so explicity romantic between them istg there isn't much more the writers can do other than give them a mostly censored kiss like Julerose which I would still appreciate (especially since they were supposed to kiss at the end of the episode anyways)

Maybe it's cuz every time some shit like this is pulled or someone says something like the video creator said I feel invalidated myself? Like I'm taking it too personally 😭 ik it's thomas' fault but I hate that the bs he says is considered Bible over the actual source material that like I said, the writers WORKED to be as gay and romantic as humanly possible.
