Not to derail but also a slight derailment cause well
okay here's the thing
fact one: the medieval world was far more interconnected than we really imagine. the crusades led to increased contact between europe and the middle east, europeans were reaching the mongol court by the mid-1300s, remnants of chinese silk have been found in ancient egypt. trade was always a thing, people went east, people came west. maybe not all people, but certainly some people moved around a lot more than we tend to think.
fact two: it is, therefore, completely plausible that a european knight and someone from china could have interacted somewhere in the middle east at some point, and made trades.
fact three: direct from wikipedia: the first sunglasses, made from flat panes of smoky quartz (which offered no corrective powers but did protect the eyes from glare), were used in china in the 12th century or possibly earlier.
fact four: knight in full chain mail and wholly prepared for battle but also. with sunglasses.
