Moments since graduating that have just been surreal:
At the graduation ceremony checking my phone and having my offer to my dream university sitting there
Cleaning my desk and finding the guides to my dream university and having it hit me that I did it, I got in
Seeing my physics grade (I truly did not think I'd pass so a B shocked me)
Watching my friends get into their first choices for uni
Realising I'll spend my 18th birthday without my family or friends in a new city
Gettin a 90 and realising I was able to do what I'd aimed for for so long

Memory Integration: Stages
🗝️🏷️ mentions of recovery goals
I was looking at the DID treatment guidelines, because this is always so helpful for my system’s therapy (it’s not). They mention synthesis in phase two treatment, followed by realization and personification. As we frequently do when given instructions we aren’t following, I wondered whether there was something to this that I’d been missing.
I found another article about those three goals centering EMDR. Then I searched for one the guidelines cited while mentally kicking rocks (that one talked about using imagery to communicate physically painful memories, which make language less accessible, and clicked for us despite not being the detail I was looking for).
I’m going to describe the terms in relation to memory processing as a system, which I’ll call co-processing. I prefer alter language for our dissociative sysmates, so that’s what I’ll use.
What is Synthesis?
Synthesis is the stage of co-processing where traumatized alters share the full content of the trauma they hold. It’s emotional, and may have them reliving the memories. Alters who held different aspects become aware of the bigger picture, and alters who were in the dark are exposed to new material.
In the EMDR article, synthesis was just about the collecting of details. The details still included emotional and somatic memory pieces. It was applied to a singlet with PTSD, which was more aligned with our experience of doing memory work individually. We aim for an in-between, with traumatized alters sharing amongst themselves and a few others they trust; the term they use for that is parallel processing, where subgroups go through synthesis before the whole system.
Van der Hart’s article included a stage before synthesis where non-traumatic and observer/cognitive details were gathered into a narrative first, placing the roles of different alters in context of the event or events. We use that phase to determine who gets to be present for the next stages. For us, more alters are included in the synthesis stage than the following stages.
Synthesis comes with multiple realities as different alters share their experiences. While there is an element of distinguishing fantasy/trance logic from what happened to the body, all of those realities are important and should remain present as they pool together. That’s also called parallel processing, but with a different definition.
What is Realization?
Realization comes with different definitions, but is further broken into more stages that may be concurrent.
Just realization: an alter experiences the emotional effect of a traumatic experience. The content sinks in, and the feelings are connected either from that time or in the present looking back. (The what)
Personification: an alter experiences these traumas as having happened to them and belonging to their story. The memory becomes affiliated with their sense of ‘me’. (The who)
Presentification: an alter contextual idea the traumas as having happened in the past, with differentiation and time flow between past, present, and future. (The when)
The crises and heaviness of the emotions felt are resolved in this stage, and the memory moves from traumatic to narrative. Telling the story becomes a neutral to positive experience, and the alters and system move on from their backstory.
Our Goals
These articles differ in that one is about any traumatic dissociation and the other is about CDDs.
I don’t see the need for my collective to realize trauma of other alters unless they were also involved in some way. I relate to my journey as having gone through all of these stages, where I had to connect with my emotional parts (EPs) and put my story together so that I could regain my footing.
I’ve gotten through the synthesis phase with some of the others who share similar memories, or who have beginnings and ends and blank spots in what I consider my memories. The latter is a middle ground of mine and not, and I’m not as far along with placing those in the past. The emotions I associate with them are also mine and not, more closely what I would call the versions of me before we elaborated in different directions. The prior are not mine, and I don’t stick my fingers in besides to comfort and tend to the alters I feel kinship with.
The CDD article says that alters choose who participates, but also reads like the correct answer is all of them.
I don’t think we have to, but that’s also dependent on us not wanting unification or much fusion at all. I had PTSD, and now I’ve recovered from it. It was more complicated as an alter, more of a group effort, but wasn’t so completely collective as the guidelines suggest.
It is tempting to have a story of us, but that doesn’t include realization for our purposes. I feel more informed having memory integration broken down for me, and I’m still happy with our choices. Guidelines aren’t everything.

Shout out to people with Complex Dissociative Disorders (parents edition):
If your parents genuinely changed and improved overtime
If your parents were absent when you were a kid because they were sick / ill / working / otherwise indisposed
If your parents were not your abusers
If your parents would have acted differently if they knew you were being abused
If your parents didn't have the resources or knowledge to help / understand you
If your parents were loving and yet still neglectful
If your parents inadvertently invalidated / didn't believe you, but now do
If your parents weren't your primary caregivers when the abuse happend
If you weren't abused at all and your trauma was medical / environmental / etc
Had emotionally and physically present parents but you still had disorganized attachment with them as a kid because of your delusions / paranoia / etc.
If your parents regret how they treated you
If your parents loved and love you but acted the way they did because of substances / mental illness
If your parents are not completely bad people, or bad people at all
If you still get along with your parents regardless of what they did
If you ever invalidated your own traumatic childhood experiences because your parents were "too nice"
Your trauma is not less valid if you get along with your parents today. Sure, you needed disorganized attachment to your primary caregivers as a kid to develop a CDD. But that can take plenty of formes, and they don't all include your parents being monsters.

Shout out to Sam for fitting most of these/lh
shoutout to systems who...
⌨️ have routine holders that split to help become more organised
💿 have alters that manage their school life and front to do homework (i call 'em academic holders)
💾 have headmates who's source is so niche that not even sysmates remember the name of it

We've had issues with misspelling our unique code or mistyping names etc and it coming up with others alters/systems. PKs privacy has quite a few issues imo.
*sigh* just a friendly reminder that PluralKit attaches a unique code to your system that allows anyone to look up your system - and if you look up a system on discord using pk;system [code], gives a link to all of their public system data on PKs website, which for some of you includes information on triggers, sexuality, and other things that cyberbullies may misuse.
I have been messing around with the settings as much as possible and I cannot find a way to avoid this beyond privating all alters and all system info, which many users don't do.
Even with information privated, it still seems that PK will link your discord handle with your Pluralkit user if the unique code is plugged in.

Sharing as this seems to me like a breach of privacy at best, and dangerous at worst.

Rufus Remore in gold eyeliner, I wish I could remember who said he'd play with make-up if they had it in Pallimustus, so I could credit you for my brain rot😭 so if you're out there let me know!
I thought I remembered it saying he wore silk robes at some point, so I gave him one of those ridiculously fancy dressing gown style ones, like he's getting ready in the morning lol

🌴, 🐬, 🏖️ <- for the ask game :D
🌴are you non human, alterhuman, therian, otherkin or anything similar? If so, what?
Collectively, not really. However a significant portion of alters are therians and non human. The most notable non human is probably a pile of leeches. We have a variety of therians, lots of cats and opossums, racoons and red pandas. Kind of related - we have an alter who loves furry art and has several fursonas, he's also created a collective fursonas and regularly assigns alters fursonas.
🐬do you have any collective interests? What are they?
Yes!! We have so many!! The most prominent right now are criminal minds, the MCU (a long term special interest), and hwfwm! But were also interested in reading, writing, Pokemon and psychology.
🏖️ do you have any characters you headcanon as being a system / are a system that you enjoy?
In all honesty, not really. We don't watch much system media due to the typically bad representations of systems and we rarely headcanon characters as a system.

🦐 — Would you consider your headcount to be low, medium, high, or something else? Feel free to provide a number / estimate if you're comfortable.
🦞 — Do you have any experiences with the system community that you'd like to share, or anything you wish the system community understood better?

[ Image ID: A banner with a colorful aquarium background. There's pixelated white text with a black outline overlaid on top of it. The text reads, “Do not interact if you're pro non-traumagenic, pro ship, pro harmful paraphilia, TERF / radfem, Zionist, TCC, radqueer, anti self diagnosis, or believe in "narc abuse." Besides that, have fun!” End ID. ]

Boris is so much more likable out loud. When I read his lines, I imagined him to be callous. Instead, he sounds so resigned. He’s more of a foil to Jason this way. He is who Jason could have become if he didn't have friends to lean on. He kept making the vicious choices because the ends justified the means, and he could only afford to have one priority. But even after thousands of years, he still hates doing it. He still grieves everyone he hurts to serve his cause. He still cares about his people, and his main motivation is compassion for them. Even his joking lines sound more manic than jovial, like someone desperately trying to hold back the mental breakdown until the job is done.
Anyways, happy Audiobook release, I'm gonna go cry over the slutty angel who's first words were a Tommy Wisseau quote.

I'm part way through book 11 of hwfwm and can't be coherent right now but
It feels like it's tying in so much more with book 1 and earlier books, there's so many little ((mentions of pitent hamsters) and not so little (Clive's wife, ifykyk) references to Jason's earlier adventures and with everything that's going on in the books it feels so perfect, to me it seems like the first book to do this to that extent it's tying Jason back with who he was and what happened earlier so much more and I love it
