I'm an engineering major who actively started transitioning while working to enter into the field. There are no spaces of support available for the transphobia and misogyny I experience within my classes and major, the groups available on campus are all for women, particularly, cis women, and center cis women's experiences.

I can't enter into scholarships I used to as a cis woman in STEM. I actively get harassed more than the cis women in my courses, and I know literally no other trans man in my field of study, nonetheless met one in my classes (just finished my General STEM Education courses that a lot of STEM majors need to take). Actually, a lot of cis women in my classes have literally PARTICIPATED and INSTIGATED my experiences with harassment in class. Cis men have even used that harassment as an open invitation to take it further.

I don't pass either, but I don't get read as cisgender. Cis women glare at me in the street. I get hit on by cis men and have to actively raise my voice and hide my stubble to avoid them getting angry that they hit on a trans person. I get all the harassment I did before, but no one on my side, little resources are available for me to get help.

And this is coming from someone who has a LOT of privilege, I live in the United States, I'm middle class, I'm white, the list goes on. So imagine how it is for the greater amount of trans men who are not in my position if this is my experience.

"Because trans men are men and men have male privilege, it's just basic feminism"

"Okay but basic feminism wasn't written with transmasc experiences in mind and therefore doesn't account for our real lived experiences which are contradictory to the theory. Can you give me material examples?"

"I refuse to have to explain something that's just so easy to grasp 🙄 do your own research"

"I have done my own research and it shows that trans men don't have meaningful male privilege"

"Ugh I'm not talking to you anymore go away"
