This is going to be the only post I'll do regarding eurovision (well, about Festival da Canção anyway).
Not Portugal getting Cha Cha Cha'd, public wanted Pelas Costuras, but juries got the shitty song in.
Anywho, enjoy these gems:

Not a Eurovision Fact #4:
Hello everyone, I just figured I'd take the time to say this since this is a very Eurovision -centric blog with a fairly large following:
I will not be watching Eurovision this year. I believe, like many of you, that the removal of Russia set a precedent and neglecting to remove Israel shows extreme bias and is, in turn, taking a political stance at a "non-political" event.
I don't believe that we can be "united by music" as long as we allow this to stand, so instead of watching Eurovision this year, I will only be watching the national finals/internal selection music videos, and then having my own vote on a winner based on those performances with friends.
I encourage you to do the same.

I don't understand the voting system for eurovision. But how did Sweden win? Did they bribe judges?
That's the theory! ABBA won Eurovision in 1974 and started their career, so 2024 is ABBA's 50th anniversary. There's one Reddit post saying that the person works in Swedish entertainment business and their boss had told them that they've decided to celebrate ABBA-week with Eurovision - before any country even had decided who they are going to send to Eurovision. The Eurovision final had a way too much emphasis on Sweden and ABBA, too.
Sweden's representative singer Loreen herself said in one interview, that Sweden had to win because of ABBA.
Swedish media also knew for certainty that Sweden is going to win through the whole spring before Eurovision artists had been chosen. It wasn't even "what if we win" but "lol of course we will win".
Jury, aka 186 people from different countries, gave so many jury points to Sweden that even if 2nd runner had gotten all 12 points from televoting - meaning that in every single European country the countrymen wanted the 2nd runner to win - the 2nd runner would have still lost. Doesn't matter if and when Eurovision viewers send millions and billions to Eurovision by voting their favorite song - the jury has spoken.
The gigantic amount of jury points for one country also means that all other countries didn't receive jury points or got very little even when there was nothing wrong in their performance - and in any other year than in upcoming ABBAvision 2024 they would have received jury points. The jury points would have divided wider among different countries' artists. Norway is especially pissed off but so is Germany, too.
So, 186 people decided the winner when millions of people wanted someone else to win. In fact, 70% of the Eurovision televoters wanted Finland to win. Rest 30% wanted either Sweden or someone else to win. No country gave maximum points to Sweden. The average point for Sweden from public was 6 and for Finland 10.
Finland got the 2nd highest score in televoting in the whole history of Eurovision, which has been celebrated since WWII, and still didn't win. Because of jury of 186 people.
And then, Swedish media dares to say that televoting and people can't be trusted and they can't be let to decide who they want to win because "the audience doesn't always know right" (a direct quote).

I'm half-expecting EBU news that states "Due to Swedish media's reaction, Sweden will not be hosting the next season, and the runner-up, Finland, will host instead" due to... whatever the FyiEUCk is going on with Swedish Media.

Sweden’s Aftonbladet newspaper Eurovision specialists Markus Larsson and Tobbe Ek  are letting out unbelievable butt hurt shit towards Finland because Finland didn’t give any televote points to Sweden. They spoke in Aftonbladet’s Schlagerkoll’s podcast titled Sorry, not sorry, Finland and this is what they said:
Finnish people didn’t vote for Loreen because we’re jealous of Sweden and everything they’ve got
Finnish people thought that 10 other songs were better than Loreen, like Lord of The Lost’s song, and this is a crime against Sweden!
-Since we didn’t give any points to Sweden it is just right that we lost because we’ve got a bad attitude (aka  Finnish people can’t decide what they like or don’t like but they must always like all Sweden’s entries no matter what.)
Europe wanted Käärijä to win but you know what? Audience isn’t always right. The jury must stay there to show what the audience needs because they can’t decide themselves.
How Finnish people voted is a proof that jury points can’t be taken away from Eurovision, because again, the audience doesn’t know the best what it wants.
If jury is taken away from Eurovision, it would force Sweden to plan again what kind of songs they can send to Eurovision to maximize their chances for winning (because Europeans are fickle and the audience doesn’t know the best)
-Käärijä is nothing but a partying salad bowl and you know what Finland; Fuck them (a literal quote!)
Also, in other newspaper, Swedish media called Finland as “kingdom’s old Eastern parts”. That’s equal for England calling India as their old South-Asian parts or any other colonialist country calling their prior parts and now independent countries as their own. Very racists and colonialist. I’m horrified to see such remarks just casually thrown out in Swedish media! Come on, Sweden! You’re better than than a racist country! At least you should be! D:
All this and only because people have been genuinely upset and angry that Käärijä didn’t win and televoting meant nothing, but the Swedish media and Eurovision staff is taking it on Finland and blaming it is just us who are upset.
Tell me again how this is just a song contest and I shouldn’t be upset :)))
This year’s Eurovision has been an absolute disaster…

3 days later, this keeps getting better and better
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specifically how Loreen has more views, probably because a lot of non-ESC fans just wanna check out who won, but absolutely drowning in dislikes. More dislikes than Käärijä has likes, actually, as if it's not just his stans that are tanking it, but fans of other performances that have been terribly wronged this year.
Another hilarious point: how they put her performance up with "EUROVISION WINNER" in all caps. Because, yup, you look at all the Käärijä hype online and you might get very reasonably confused about who actually won this thing (and he did, to us).
You know when they didn't mark the winners' Grand Finale performances like that? Every damn year before 2023. Their titles just look like this.

(PS: in case you weren't aware, cos I got these questions on a prev post, yes, you still can see dislike stats on youtube web with the plugin. Another plugin lets me download the videos straight from the page. Plugins are your friends.)

Okay I know some finnish have propably been very disrespectful losers, I have too been too harsh on Loreen. But can we talk about the swedish newsreporters for a second?
Sweden WON. They WON Eurovision. And what is Sweden making news about? Making fun of Finland and throwing tantarums at finns for not giving them public votes.
Wonder why that happened.
Sweden WON and Loreen made history. First woman to win the Eurovision song contest twice. She should be celebrated. So why can't swedish be happy?
"Our weird little brother Finland is throwing a petty fit for losing" "Finland used to be part of us" "Sometimes the public is wrong".
Camoon Sweden, you won. Why do you have to rub salt into wounds?
"Some Germany got votes but not us" "I don't think they can find 10 better songs than Tattoo" "Finlands voting was rigged"
Thats what Sweden is saying. Instead of celebrating Loreen it seems. Because of course a nation of 5,5 million people can throw a national campain to not vote Sweden. Makes a lot of sense.
Also our commentator got some of this too. Apparently Mikko was telling everyone to vote tactically. In fact he read a joke from the live chat about tactical voting and no countries were mentioned. So no, YLE did not incite any camoain against Sweden. Loreen was actually Mikko's favorite.
Käärijä was descriped as "harshly partying salad bowl". Cool Sweden.
Of course we also have "shame on Finland" "fuck them" "stupid people".
You know, listening all this you would think Sweden lost. And I would have understood all this if they did, cause Finland has been saying these too. But Sweden WON, Loreen WON. THEY WON. So why can't they be happy instead of being bitter for not getting a few votes (which didn't affect the end result in any way) from Finland?
Loreen deserves better and Finland doesn't deserve this shit from Sweden.
