the ever relatable mid semester catch up

2 april 2018, 4:31pm // 20ºC
Hope everyone is having a nice, relaxing easter break and are spending some quality time with the ones they love the most! After seeing some friends and going home to see my family, I’m ready to jump back into some studying for the next week to catch up on all my subjects during the mid-semester break. Coffee and some scrumptious easter cookies are getting me through!

my favourite lecturer often would give some fantastic linear algebra result, usually some corollary or lemma for the bigger theorems, with quite a literal handwave and the quote “this is quite easy. think about it for one, maybe two minutes.” it was easy, maybe 20% of the time.
“Based on [that], [this] simplifies to [something that is in no way simple].”

welcome to me?
i’m not yet a mathematician, just a humble second year university student. i’d like to begin this blog by mentioning just how impressed i am that Dirichlet gave his first lecture, lacking a degree, at the age of 20. the lecture was on a partial proof of Fermat’s famous theorem for the case n=5 (he later completed the proof, not before Legendre, and proved the case for n=14). i can’t prove a case of FLT yet. i can hardly do my combinatorics assignment. but i’ll make it. maybe not when i’m 20 (although 3 months is a decent amount of time), but some day.
