So I thought about what would be the best way to spend my first day off in two weeks, and I decided that it’d be a good idea to try and track down Lacey Sturm’s book, ‘The Reason: How I Discovered A Life Worth Living’.  It’s technically not even out yet.  Release day is October 7, 2014, but I’ve seen that a few people across the country have been able to find it.  So I thought…mission accepted!

As a lot of folks know, I’ve loved Flyleaf a whole lot since January of 2005.  I wrote this big long thing detailing my love for them, and their music, and their future with Kristen May when Lacey left in 2012.  Read it if you’re curious about the depth of my love for these folks.  It’s pretty real, and pretty uncharacteristically cheesy (for those who know me).  Normally I don’t have big feels for people, but the Flyleaf people always have given me the happiest and most meaningful of feels.  And the magnitude of those feels has a tendency to get me talking about my feels on the internet.

So that brings me to this book right here.  I managed to find ‘The Reason’  a few towns over after making a few calls.  I hopped in my car, and rushed over to Barnes & Noble in my pajamas to grab it.  After bringing it home, I showed my Nana and Mom, all giddy and excited.  It kind of felt the same way as hearing ‘I’m So Sick’ on the radio for the first time in 2005.  Or bringing home a dozen copies of Between The Stars a few weeks ago to give out to loved ones.  These people I love and believe in are doing amazing things, and here’s proof of it!  Getting to show people that my friend had made this book full of words that were no doubt life changing and insightful and full of wisdom and love was super exciting to me.  I ran upstairs, shooed the cats away because they were determined to sit on the book (as they often do with everything that gets between me and them), and opened it up.  Before I even got to the first chapter, the tears started.  And at several points throughout reading the book they kept coming back.

I read the entire thing in one sitting, and was left with this huge heart of joy and fulfillment.  And more importantly, a greater understanding of what it means to be a human being who loves God.  Lacey has always had a gift for explaining the intricacies of the feelings, questions and thoughts that come with being someone who follows Christ.  She used that gift to write a book.  She has touched so many lives with her story, and now it’s something we can hold in our hands in written form, which I think is endlessly amazing.  

This book isn’t just for Flyleaf fans.  Although it does explain her departure, and it gives insight to things that Flyleaf fans might be curious about; this book is more than that.  It tells a beautiful story of a girl who was in the same painful place that we’ve all been in, and how she discovered a life worth living.

Okay so I don't usually do these throwback posts, but I've been digging through the Flyleaf youtube tag to kind of do a best of the best mp3 compilation of Kristen live to tide myself over until the new record comes out.  And I found this video from Anaheim last March!  What a beautiful performance.  Arise is the kind of song that evoked such a powerful feeling from me the second I heard it...it just gave me good music chills.  And that never faded no matter how many times I heard it.  I know a lot of people identify with Arise and find hope in this song, because it's such a beautiful thing.  Every single time I hear it at a show, I get all teary at the end when the whole crowd sings along.  Because I'm a super huge sap.  Don't judge. 

I really feel like this video captures what it's like to see Flyleaf live, and captures the feeling of the song.  So I thought I'd share with you guys!  Enjoy.  <3
