Cat is out of the bag: I'm starting a new label/booking concern/etc (with a little help from @milovachan) called IMPERMANENT. First batch of releases will come late this year/ early next, but keep an eye out, as we'll be promoting a ton of events in Portland in coming months. #IMPERMANENT

#NowSpinning "Reuben at Foxy's", some gold found hidden in a row of generic classical LPs. This is raw af private-press calypso, with some occasional soulish moves, an incredible rewrite of "Living for the City" called "His Heart is Black", and TWO songs with "pussy" double entendres. It gets wild and in-the-red, and there all kinds of goofy vocal extrapolations (including Donald Duck noises). No info on back cover, no insert. Supposedly only 100 made. #NowSpinning Fuckin' A, this record. Got the hard sell in this one from Richie at Lo And Behold, and he is a blessed being for pushing it on me. Grant Green and Bernard "Pretty" Purdie at just about the top of their game, and that ain't saying nothing. The track "Sweetheart" (not featured here) is bursting at the seams with breaks. #NowSpinning For the most part, I don't fuck with fancy import rare "psych" reissues (or originals, because I ain't Daddy Warbucks, but that's another deal). Why? Because $3-8 and a quick dig through a decent shop's jazz section will net you the same basic kicks, except a more adept and varied version. #NowSpinning Luis Gasca, "For Those Who Chant". WHY ISN'T THIS RECORD A BIG DEAL?! Glad I got it for pretty cheap (another @woodennickelrecords grip), but dang. All-star band including Joe Henderson on tenor and some "Smooth" operator, last name of Santana, on guitar. Perfect, hypnotic fusion of latin and spiritual jazz, affixed to the groove always.
