every time there's a post on here that's like "leave weird people alone, let people be freaks" there's always a bunch of people in the notes going "i agree but do you mean the Good Freaks or Bad Freaks OP?" with zero self-awareness

âMost kids like school! They hang out with their friends, do activities, learn stuff (which many like).â
I have to say this part struck me as the main objectionable part of that whole discourse. Kids do not like school. Itâs so obvious it hardly even bears mentioning. Kids cherish every single day off from school. Kids get as stoked about an unexpected school cancellation (like a snow day) as they do about their own birthdays. Kids view their recess and lunch break the way prisoners view a weekend furlough. Summer vacation is the happiest time in every childâs life precisely because it means freedom from school, their chief misery in life.
To this day, âyear-roundâ school calendars (where they shorten summer vacation and compensate for it with longer breaks during the school year) are unpopular and not more widely used because everyone feels like itâs cruel to do that to kids, to diminish and reduce their singular joy, the thing they view as basically their sole reason for living: summer vacation.
Iâm really not exaggerating. School is intrinsically unpleasant for even the children who do well in it. I canât even imagine how stressful and miserable it is for the kids who do not do well.
Kids love hanging out with their friends, which school limits to roughly an hour a day, during recess and lunch. And limits it in a very frustrating kind of way where youâre literally taunted with it but denied it. Youâre sitting in a chair right next to your best friends but youâre not allowed to talk to them! Every side comment and joke you make to your friend gets you in trouble for talking in class.
Kids like activities that are actual activitiesâgoing on a hike, playing a game, watching a show, building something. School has very few of these. Most are just homework very thinly disguised as an activity, i.e âprojectsâ.
Kids might like learningâabout things theyâre interested in. But school generally takes an antagonistic approach to learning. If the thing is intrinsically interesting and kids would try to learn about it for its own sake, they usually view that as mere entertainment, not serious learning. Anything kids would actually like to learn about: dinosaurs, medieval knights and princesses, reading fantasy novels, building models, is more or less strictly kept out of the classroom.
Practical skills are also quite often kept out of the classroom! Home ec and shop classes have been eliminated from most schools, as have most agricultural-education type classes involving gardening and caring for animals. So kids rarely learn any practical skills in school that they would get any intrinsic satisfaction from learning, like how to fix stuff, cook for themselves, build things.
Even arts education focuses intensely on snuffing out childrenâs interests. Music education focuses entirely on classical music with instruments almost no child would ever have at home to play. And teaches boring classical music that nobody listens to anymore, rather than popular music kids might want to learn to play. Similarly, art education focuses on fine art methods: oil painting, watercolors, and sculpture, that few students could pursue at home. Crayons, markers, and pencils are seen as art tools only for kindergarteners. And art classes tend to frown on children creating images based on cartoons and movies they like.
I canât stress enough that school is miserable and every child hates it except the very rare few kids for whom their home life is so horrific that even being in prison (school) is a relief.

CATRACE / CATRACIAL
Catrace/catracial
A transrace identity where one's transracialness (or lack thereof) is influenced by being a cat.
[/start] Two flags. Both have gray stripes at the top fading into pink into white. The flag on the left has a symbol of a cat with a notably long tail outlined in white + pink. [/end]
anyone who wants to coin pupracial or dogracial has my grace (i will boost you)
