Prayers to Hylia and the Golden Goddesses for times of need
Everyone seems to be going through it recently, especially myself, so I wrote these prayers to recite when I need comfort and the strength to keep going. I hope others find them helpful. May the goddesses smile upon you! 💕
Tumblr media
Prayer to the goddess Hylia
I pray to Hylia, her grace, the goddess of light and protectress of the Triforce,
And I ask that you hear me now and aid me in my time of need.
Fair goddess with white wings, deliver me and my world from suffering,
Guide me through the dark with your divine light,
Bless me with the will to face the darkness and emerge victorious.
May I, like your Chosen Hero, never waiver in the face of struggle,
But weather these storms with bravery and a will to protect those who need it.
May you, the goddess, smile upon me in my moments of despair,
And grant me your blessing so that I may continue on despite all.
Praise be to the white goddess Hylia, protector of Hyrule and those who call upon you.
Tumblr media
Prayer to the Three Golden Goddesses (Din, Nayru and Farore)
I pray to the three Golden Goddesses of Hyrule, divine creators of the Triforce,
And I ask that you each heed my call in this hour of need!
By Din’s fire, may I have the power to enact justice and change in this world,
By Nayru’s love, may I have the wisdom to see these challenges and persevere regardless,
By Farore’s wind, may I have the courage to care for my neighbors and face the trials ahead of me.
I ask for these blessings from each of you, O divine goddesses of Hyrule,
And in return I will enact your will upon this land, embodying each of your lessons
And spreading your good names across the Earth.
Praise be to the three Golden Goddesses, Din, Nayru and Farore;
May you smile upon me and my land in this desperate hour
And grant us your blessings in the years to come.

Folks, do not buy "spell services" from strangers on the internet, especially when:
You will receive no physical evidence of the service (a photo of some candles doesn't count, in my opinion, as these can be stolen or otherwise falsified)
The seller's entire online presence appears to be dedicated to the sale of said services and absolutely nothing else
Their listings have AI-generated images or summaries attached to them
The listings are written specifically to cater to people who are desperate, hurting, and/or otherwise unlikely to vet the service ahead of time
Bonus bullshit points if the listing uses ableist language or demonizes particular mental illnesses/disabilities
The listings don't say how the spell is cast, just that it'll "be done" or that you'll receive a nebulous "guide" with no details about the process or what exactly you're getting
Bonus bullshit points if the listing doesn't say how you will know when it's done, how they'll notify you about completion, or how you can check on it
The listings are primarily boasting about how great the seller is, how impressive their lineage/practice is, and how powerful the spell will be; minimal actual information, maximum self-fellatio
Bonus bullshit points if they refuse refunds outright
By god, what nonsense. Eugh.

*gently grabs Witchblr by the shoulders* It is okay for some things to not be perfect substitutes for other things. It is okay for there to be parts of something that you simply can't substitute out. It's okay for things to be hyperspecific. Drink some water.

Reversal Spell:
(Yes, this can be done with a dual action/reversal candle, but for this of us only fortunate enough to have a kitchen. Use what ya got.)
Best Done During:
Waning Moon; Saturday or Tuesday; Planetary hours: Mars and Saturn
Concept:
• Cleanse
• Reverse negativity
• Protect
Tools:
• Mirror plate
• Candle
• Marker
• Black Pepper (banish/exorcise)
• Salt (protect/cleanse)
• Cayenne/Red Pepper Flakes (banish/protect)
• Cinnamon (protect/attract/banish/money)
• Basil (exorcise/protect/money)
• (Olive) Oil
How:
1) Bless the mirror plate and herbs (if you haven’t already and if you have a second, third, etc., time wouldn’t hurt). Remember the time and energy you invest in this you’re also investing in yourself. Write words sigils, runes, and magical symbols for protection/reversal.
2) Cleanse yourself with the candle. Rub yourself down head to toe, crack and crevice. The candle is taking the excess, stagnant and bad energy from you. It should feel heavier. Write words, sigils, runes, or magical symbols of cleansing/protection/reversal.
3) Fix it. Dress it with: oil, a pinch of Salt (ask the salt to cleanse you), a pinch of Basil (ask it to protect your finances), a pinch of Cinnamon (ask it to bless your love life and your passions and protect the things you love and care about).
4) If you can grind it great, if not just mixing these together will work fine. Mix:
Salt, peppers, basil and cinnamon ( break them down, or use two sticks making a cross). Ask that they:
“remove and expel negativity from your life. Just like the mirror works to reflect and send back any negativity so will the B. Pepper, Basil, and cinnamon work to break down and return negativity to its sender(s) in all areas of your life. Ask the salt, R. and C. Peppers to build a fiery wall of protection around you that works to reflect and destroy any negativity that tries to come your way. That protects you and shields you as you move forward so you may grow in trust and confidence with your magic.”
-visualize for a few minutes negativity melting off you. Onto the ground or up into the atmosphere to be sent back to where it came from.
-visualize a wall of fire around you and feel protected, calm, comfortable. Now would be a good time to ask for your trusted spirits to lend their hand in the work. To protect you. To guide you.
5) Put that mix in a circle around the candle (size doesn’t matter 😏 lol). Then focus on your goal of sending all this sh*t back that you’ve experienced recently or overall. Focus on knowing from this moment on you are protected and divinely guided. When you’re ready/if you have them lay the sticks down asking them to uncross your path.
6) Once you feel calm and relaxed and have a solid visual in your mind. Light the candle and focus that feeling into the flame. (It might help to use your hands/make an energy ball/put your hands around the flame. But if you’ve ever been mad Asf and kept starting at someone you were mad at while holding that feeling in. That’s directing your focused energy towards something. So do that but towards the flame.) Hold the idea/intention/emotion and let it loose on the flame.
7) Let the candle burn (keep and eye on it). Go back to it at least once a day and work on it. Say affirmations, meditate, cleanse in front of it, pray, add an herb or another candle or start another work where you’re building your finances or self love or that helps you develop your psychic gifts. Something to shift your focus and fill the void that cleansing creates.
8) When it’s finished burning thank it, bag it, throw it away or bury it away from the home. Let it know it’s physical work is done but the energy of the work is still active and flowing in your life. You are protected and cleansed

Christianity doesn’t have a monopoly on prayer/praying, and tbh praying will help you on your path soooooo much. You don’t have to pray to Gods or divinities or whatever if you don’t want to. Pray to your ancestors, if that’s who you venerate. Pray to the universe, if you think that’s the source. Pray to yourself, if you think you are divine.
Pray when you water your plants. Pray when you’re stuck in traffic. Pray when you’re low. Pray when you’re high. Pray when you’re about to lose it all. Pray when you’re on the mountaintop. Pray when life around you ends and begins. Pray when you’re voiceless. Pray when you know exactly what you wanna say. Pray when you lose yourself. Pray when you find out again.

Calling on specific ancestors
Just a few thoughts based on research, personal family folklore and legends, and my younger brother's recent passing:
Certain ancestors - due to their life conditions - may be petitioned to help you with your own issues, lifestyle, changes or can help you in the areas of life in which they were good at, had sway, were knowledgeable or were particularly, notoriously known for. So, if for example, if you had an ancestor that was abundantly creative, a serious problem solver, and you needed help finding a creative solution to a problem or dilemma you were facing, that ancestor may be the specific one you petition to rather than a catch all for every ancestor. There are some that maybe better suited to handle a specific type of problem you might be having.
For a more personal example, legend abounds in my family of one of my grandfathers on my maternal side being a musical genius: he could play just about any music he heard on his guitar. So, in knowing this, I could petition Pleas Terrell to aid me in certain pursuits dealing in music or finding a hidden talent, in becoming notorious in the things that I'm good at. And since I know he traveled frequently - as evidenced by different census records and the many places listed that he called home - I could ask him specifically to watch over me while I travel.
I have another ancestor - Woodsy Johnson - that was listed as a midwife: I could petition her specifically to help me in terms of health, family health, understanding herbs, aiding me in discovering deeper connections with Rootwork and connecting with people on a deeper, empathetic level.
My maternal great grandmother - Larcine Barnes - and a grandmother on my father's side (they didnt keep great records, but I'm still digging) were gardeners and farmers and, in knowing this, I could petition them to aid in my garden, helping me grow herbs, helping me in my cooking, etc., etc. You kind of get where I'm coming from, yes?
And these are just the ideas right off the top of my head.
Of course, always remember, if you can, get to know the stories and lives lived of the ancestors you know and those that you begin to become acquainted with. Some people who died within your family may not become exalted ancestors, who can guide and protect you. Some may, put simply, abuse or manipulate you as that was the life they lead and the spirit that they carried with them into death.
However, in some ways, I know that there are some members of my family that would mean me no harm, but didn't live the greatest life conditions: some folks looked after me and were kind to me, but were more than willing to be vindictive or manipulative to people outside of myself or their immediate family. Like, say my maternal grandmother, who I learned was a brothel madame, was tough-as-nails and quick to pistol-whip anyone that crossed her. She could be mean, but honestly, she really didn't harm me any. So, if I needed to (and with caution), I could petition her specifically to aid in a particularly strong curse or hex, but that's not the sum total of her life and there is definitely more I could petition her specifically for: business acumen, authority, business dealings and negotiations that require a cool head and no nonsense attitude, the ability to persevere through tough times.
So, once again, while practicing caution, you may be able to petition those less-than-savory ancestors to aid in works, such as curses or tricks or hexes. It will entirely depend on that ancestor or ancestors, and your connection to them.
As with anything: be extremely careful when dealing with spirits - even ancestors; have a good protection for yourself, and never leap on the first ancestor or family member's spirit to offer their help as - like I said - if you're not sure about their life or who they were, you don't know what you could be bringing into your space. There are some family members I KNOW not to call upon in ANY capacity because I am well aware of what shitty people they were and so I steer clear. However, if you know the ancestor or spirit, and know that they won't mean you harm, full steam ahead, I suppose.

Black student rootworkers: if you’re studying for a major test or you’re stuck on a problem with your homework, set up an altar for Web Du Bois. Print out your favorite picture of him. Set aside an apple, a glass of water, a white candle, and a white orchid flower. Pray to him. Say his name three times. Read your problem out loud and meditate on it. Do your essays or art project or math homework at the altar and let the black excellence flow right through you

🌟👏🗣Commanding & Compelling Roots & Herbs in Hoodoo🗣☄
Tumblr media
When you really need to assert your will and dominance over a situation or person - or when you’re simply tired of people stepping all over you and want to fight back - Commanding, compelling, and Domination spells are the way to go.
Whether it’s a rival, a lover, a boss, or a family member, these herbs and roots are said to give you the chance to lead, control, and govern your way to success or to others.
☄🌟🌟🗣🌟🌟☄
🗣HIGH JOHN THE CONQUEROR - conquers all in your way (to be used by Black people ONLY). Increases strength and power, gives confidence, nothing can stop you.
🔥CALAMUS ROOT - a “hot” root that controls and defeats a person’s will. A not so subtle but very strong commanding herb.
🗣MARSHMALLOW ROOT - a gentler, milder controlling herb that influences things to your favor
🔥CLOVES - strong, forceful, compelling herb.
🗣VANILLA - compelling, especially in matters of love and money.
🔥DEVIL’S BIT - Commanding and compelling! Depending on what you combine it with it can be used for love, money, success, etc.
🗣BLOODROOT - Commanding herb that can be used for good or bad. Commands respect.
🔥ELDER - A more subtle yet still powerful plant for commanding and influencing a person or situation
🗣SASSAFRAS - Commanding and twisting, helps get you out of court cases or helps in releasing someone’s hold on you.
🔥POPPY SEEDS - Confusion, dominates and morally weakens the target.
🗣DEERS TONGUE - grants eloquence and pleasing speech to those who carry it. Use it so your words are more convincing and make things in your favor.
🔥TOBACCO - can be added to any control or domination work to make the effects stronger.
🗣FIVE FINGER GRASS - carry a bit before asking for a favor to get a favorable response.
🔥LICORICE ROOT - especially good in love work, use this to take control over a person or situation. Very strong in commanding and compelling spells. Great to use in lusty glamor type of work too, as it is also an aphrodisiac!
🗣MUSK - (real musk is unethical and illegal, please use a synthetic alternative instead) Strength and self confidence, along with commanding and compelling particularly in the sexual areas.
🔥MASTER ROOT - As the name implies, you will always be the master. Useful for influencing others.

Crossroads
Idk why people think in hoodoo that the man at the crossroads is a European concept. Like yes Europeans have their own crossroads spirits, but ya know who else does????? African peoples. Like, it’s not hard at all to figure out that the whole “Africans forgot their Gods and the white mans magic saved them” is completely bullshit, so why continue that narrative? I’m seeing a trend of people seeing overlap of different traditions and cultures and immediately mashing them together as if 1: The only way black folks know of crossroads spirits is because of European influence. 🤦🏿‍♂️ 2: These different spiritual traditions and practices can’t exist alongside each other without people thinking they are one and the same.

Hoodoo tip: FLOORS!!!
I don't care how much of a mess your house is, I understand, life is messy and things don't always stay where they belong 👀 but at the very least YOU HAVE TO KEEP YOUR FLOORS CLEAN!
Floors are naturally what gets dirty more easily in a home but It's root and foundation of the rest of the house, physically and energetically. Dirty, messy floors attract dirty, messy spirits and shit. Don't let it happen. Negative shits will get attached to any and all possible mess in your house but sweep those dirty floors and you'll be sweeping out the foundation and roots of that negativity. The rest is easy job. My mom would always make me clean the house floors first, then the rest downwards and out, then floors again at the end, for that very reason.
Wanna get fancy? Choose an auspiscious date per your tradition (maybe a new moon? Maybe a saturday?), play some music to set the mood, then start by doing a cleansing, banishing or uncrossing floorwash first (OR sprinkle salt or some cleansing dirt or dust and sweep away if that's your thing), clean the rest of your house as you would normally do, physically and energetically, then at the end do an attracting, abundance or blessing floorwash. That will remove negativity and attract good stuff instead, but I assure you, just clean your floors and you'll feel the energy shift immediately.

I’m a scholar/historian so I’m really excited for a few new books that are coming out soon that analyze the history of Black women’s religious lives during slavery. Folks are always asking for books for “how to” do Hoodoo and reputable ones don’t really exist (nor am I completely convinced that they should, gives too much access to non-Black people). Slavery narratives however, are full of gems if your heart and mind are open. Get some slave narratives and sit at your altar and read. The answers will come.

ancestor communication tarot spread 💀🖤
1. who am i speaking to?
2. who are you in relation to me?
3. what is your opinion of me?
4. is there anything you would like to communicate to me?
5. how can i honour you?
🖤2.
🖤5. 🖤1. 🖤3.
🖤4.
note: i don't draw cards, i just let them pop out freely as i'm shuffling. so, in my case, if i had multiple cards pop out for the first question, i would assume that there were multiple ancestors present. if you draw cards differently & would like to speak to multiple ancestors, consider altering the questions to make them more plural.
