this night is sparkling (don’t you let it go) | pack
clandestinns:
as people put the last touches on makeup and outfits, lydia walked around to look everyone over once more. she’d never doubted cass’s makeup skills, but she was especially impressed by the looks the girl had put on everyone for the night. whereas lydia had left the boys with specific instructions, she’d let cass put her imagination to work for most of the girls, and she wasn’t disappointed in the least.
looping her arm through the witch’s, lydia beamed at her. “while i retain that fiona has done absolutely nothing to deserve you—-”
“that’s so disrespectful.”
“—-i’m so glad she brought you into our lives,” lydia continued, ignoring fiona completely. “you are phenomenal and you made my job so much easier. and so did you,” she added, looking to allison. “i couldn’t have done this without you, either.”
adjusting her sleeve — you look like elsa, cecelia had remarked, to both kira and hayden, with no shortage of excitement — kira threw lydia an amused look. “i thought speeches came later in the night.”
“i can make a goddamn speech whenever i goddamn want, yukimura!” as kira giggled, lydia’s expression softened. sometimes, she wasn’t sure how to show this group that she loved them. her world revolved around each and every single one of them; her heart beat and bled for this pack. they’d saved her in so many ways, and she didn’t know how to put that in words. but on nights like this —- nights like this, she prayed that it was obvious how she felt. she lightly flicked a strand of kira’s hair, eliciting another giggle, and squeezed her hand once before stepping away. “okay. is everyone just about ready?”
“looks like it,” cora muttered, putting jude’s earrings in for her. “are we walking out in pairs this time, too?” she carded her fingers through jude’s hair, hiding a smile as the younger girl hesitantly leaned into the gesture. it’d been obvious that jude was nervous about coming, but she looked beautiful. cora would never presume to know what went through jude’s mind when she skirted around them, but she hoped that the kid enjoyed tonight.
lydia grabbed her phone from her purse, unlocking it as she spoke. “some of you, yes, because there are a lot more of us than there are of them. but some of you will be walking alone. so the ones that will be walking together are…” she pulled up the list on her phone. “katie bee is with me and we’ll meet jackson at the bottom of the stairs; cora walks with kali to meet rohan; prue walks with lily to meet xander; mickey walks with nadja to meet cam; malia walks with jude to meet charlie; bree walks with fee to meet danny; ally walks with ana to meet derek; cass walks with cee to meet dom; iliana walks with eden to meet elliot; gwen and kira walk with each other to meet liam; lo and betty walk together to meet ollie; and lucy and piper walk together to meet scott. lee walks alone to meet isaac, hayden meets mason, sofia meets stiles, tate meets owen, brynn meets theo and erica meets boyd.” after going down her list, lydia looks around the room. “we’re not going in that order, but that’s how everyone is going down. does anyone want to change anything before i tell the boys to line up?”
alicia blushed, still breathless at the thought of attending this kind of thing with isaac. “do, um, do the guys know how we’re doing this?”
“they know a bit. no matter how much they know, they still haven’t seen any of you, so the shock and magic will still be there.”
erica narrowed her eyes playfully. “why do i get the feeling this is going to be recorded?”
“of course it’s going to be recorded, do you even know me?”
sofia raised her hand shyly. “what if we fall going down the stairs? asking for jude and katie.”
jude gasped. “…rude, but valid!”
lydia laughed. “if anyone falls, we have vampires and werewolves with reflexes that’ll save you. but i’m begging you not to fall, jude and katie.”
“i do nothing and i still get called out.”
in the basement, elliot checked his phone for a text from lydia. she’d told him that she would let him and jackson know when everyone needed to line up to make their way upstairs — “frankly, i don’t the rest of these boys to do this on their own, so you two are in charge.” — but he hadn’t gotten anything yet. he stood back as everyone admired their final looks. with lydia’s direction, elliot, jackson and dominic had made everyone look truly beautiful. ( that wasn’t to say they weren’t beautiful before. they just looked better now that the artists had gotten their hands on them. )
elliot let his eyes fall on his brother and grinned. while his brother always looked his best, there was another level to his appeal tonight. perhaps it was the traditional clothing; maybe it was the fact that he fully got to relax, aside from helping elliot with food. rohan deserved to have a good night with no worries attached, and elliot was glad he would finally get it. “for the first time, i think humanity will finally see cora hale speechless,” he teased. “you look wonderful, brother.”
“better than you?”
“i will hurt you, dominic kim,” elliot threatened without heat. as dominic laughed, elliot had to marvel at the fact that someone laughed in the face of his threat. elliot used to be scary; people used to fear him. now, he had witches a fourth of his age laughing in his face.
oh, how the mighty fall.
“speaking of cora,” charlie called out, grabbing another grape from his plate. “did fee ever talk her into that musical number?” though charlie wasn’t sure if anyone had ever heard cora sing, fiona had insisted that it was a life-changing experience. she’d been rallying for cora to put on a number during the ball, but no one had believed it would happen.
“it’s cora, of course not,” liam said with a grin, as ollie and derek nodded. “but it’s also fee, so we really can’t guarantee that there won’t be a musical number at some point tonight. if she talked lydia into it, then there’ll definitely be one. we just can’t promise that fee won’t be the one singing.”
scott perked up, ever the excitable puppy. “dude, that’ll be so cool! fee’s so passionate and talented, i’m sure we’ll love it!”
“as the true alpha, you’re required to say that,” elliot pointed out. as his phone finally buzzed, he checked the message from lydia, assuming jackson had gotten the same one. “if you’re all done, it’s time to line up in a very specific order, unless we want lydia to kill us.” as elliot went down the list, telling people on this side of the divider where to go, he noticed that she had that, though he and jackson would be leaving from the same side, jackson had been put in charge of directing the opposite group, ensuring that elliot and stiles did not see one another.
elliot was nearly two hundred years old, but he feared lydia’s meticulous mind far more than he’d ever feared any monster or murderer.
“hey!” katie squealed in protest, almost immediately tripping as soon as she did. she laughed, looping her arm through jude’s. “okay, we may need to hold each other up. i’ll think of a spell to help us stay balanced,” she winked at jude, laughing.
“can you do it to me, too?” malia asked, anxiously straightening her dress again. katie grinned, grabbing malia’s hand in one of her hands and jude’s with her other.
“absolutely! ready?” she closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them, grinning. “there! now the three of us should be as balanced as our glamorous friends!” she giggled, looking around at her friends that she could see, excited at the prospect of seeing everyone looking like a magical faerie. “ready, freddies?” she called to the others.
katie skipped over to lydia, looping an arm through hers and beaming. “jackson is fully going to pass out,” she giggled. “you look magical!”
as katie stood with lydia, malia shyly held onto jude’s hand still, walking to stand behind them.
“is this what prom was like?” she whispered to her best friend. she was still nervous she was going to fall, or do something embarrassing or wrong. she was relieved she got to walk with jude.
allison squeezed ana’s hand as they slipped into their place as well, followed by eden and iliana. lucy found piper and erica, giving them each a hug before standing beside piper, making sure to stay close to erica, too, not wanting her to have to stand alone for too long. sabrina stood next to fiona, sighing in awe.
“you look beautiful, fiona,” she said warmly. her eyes drifted to her sister as mickey stood beside her; nadja looked angelic, stunning; she had always deserved a night such as this, and she was so delighted nadja would have this experience.
brushing a strand of violet’s hair back from her face, willow fought back a fresh wave of tears; she didn’t want to ruin the lovely makeup they’d spent time on, but her heart felt so full, she wondered if it might burst, seeing her beautiful sister here, like this.
on the other side of the divider, cass slid into place beside cecelia, flashing a smile at the other girls in line. “ready to knock ‘em dead, cee?” she winked. gwen linked arms with kira, giving her best friend a little side hug.
“you look stunning,” she whispered, wondering if kira felt as nervous as she did.
“everybodoy shut up and stand where lydia told you,” jackson said good-naturedly as he inspected the guys on his side of the divider, making sure everything was in order. “thank god you and boyd are here,” he said dramatically to elliot, laughing. “you too, danny,” he added. “you’re an angel and we’re thrilled you’re here.”
boyd laughed softly, stopping to compliment everyone before finding hid own spot.
“ignore him,” stiles whispered loudly from the other side of the divider; jackson only rolled his eyes.
“do we go now?” katie whispered excitedly to lydia, all but jumping up and down with excitement.

this night is sparkling (don't you let it go) | pack
clandestinns:
“here… may i?”
cecelia let her hands fall with a pout and nodded, brushing her hair aside. “thank you,” she murmured as nadja clasped the thin chain around her neck. not for the first time, she let her eyes wander around the dressing room lydia had ushered them all into. rationally, cecelia knew it was just a bedroom, as told by the large bed pushed against the wall and the curtains that billowed in front of the windows. but lydia had easily turned it into a dressing room fit for queens, with stations set out for each of them, including their clothes, makeup, jewelry and a plate of snacks if they were hungry. also…
cecelia let her gaze trail to the other side of the room, where she could hear violet’s voice, but couldn’t see her. lydia had done that, too: split the room in two with a pretty little divider, ensuring that no one could see their dates before they were ready. cecelia hadn’t ventured into the basement, where the boys were getting dressed, but she had to imagine the set-up was much of the same. as odd as it felt to be separated from violet, it was equally exciting, wondering how her best friend looked.
cecelia’s heart sped up just the tiniest bit in anticipation and she turned her gaze back to the mirror in front of her. she took her own appearance — magical and so unlike her, it brought heat to her cheeks — before lifting her gaze just a little bit to look at the woman who stood behind her. “you’re so pretty, nadi.”
her words — be it the compliment or the moniker — drew nadja’s gaze up to her, allowing their eyes to meet in the mirror. slowly, the woman smiled. “as are you, lyubimaya. i am sure your date is honored to be with you tonight.”
cecelia smiled almost bashfully, a rare look from the girl who never faltered, and she toyed with the strap of her heart monitor. “what does that word mean?”
“beloved,” nadja provided, setting cecelia’s crown carefully on her head. “or sweet one, rather.”
cecelia blinked, taking in the affection of the word, and beamed at nadja through the mirror. lily caught sight of her smile and couldn’t help but hide one of her own. cecelia had obviously been through her fair share of trails, given how she held herself, but there was still a great deal of innocence in her. even if she didn’t mean to, the young girl sparkled, just like the stars on her dress. she reminded lily of her baby sisters, of a younger prue even.
the thought of her family brought lily’s eyes over to eden and prue. “you two doin’ okay?” as she looked them over, she could do nothing to stop the swell of tears in her eyes. “my lord…”
glancing over at her, prue clicked her tongue in faux-irritation. “what are you crying about now? it’s not like you’ve never seen us in dresses before.”
“now, you hush, prue luneaux. i never thought i’d see you again at all, let alone in a dress. you let me have my moment!” lily sniffled again, even as her little cousin rolled her eyes fondly.
as conversations happened across the room, lydia silently patted herself on the back. everyone was in good spirits so far, and that was more than enough for her. she bit back a smile as amari squealed with rare excitement because kali, we match! the idea to make them both pirates — as was stated on the placards in front of their vanities — had been a risky one, given that they’d both worked hard for their autonomy, but they were both enthusiastic about matching tonight.
after helping piper with her hair, lydia dropped a kiss to the top of the younger banshee’s head. “i’m going to go see if the boys are ready yet. everyone, let cass or eden check your makeup. no one leaves this room until i get back. and no peeking at your dates!”
fiona gasped dramatically, her cheeks red and sore from how hard she’d been grinning all night. “why, lydia! we would never.”
“uh huh,” lydia said, unconvinced. “if i come back and find that you’ve gone anywhere near that divider, fiona evelyn porter, i will feed you to cora and i won’t think twice about it!”
“okay, pretend you like me for a sec?”
lydia’s laughter followed her out of the room, the sound matching fiona’s. closing the door behind her, lydia stifled the last of her giggles and made her way down the grand staircase. her heels clicked against the floor as she made her way to the basement door in the kitchen. she knocked on the door lightly. “are you all decent? i’m coming down.”
“morally? derek is threatening to kill scott again. physically? yes, we’re all dressed.”
at elliot’s answer, lydia rolled her eyes fondly and pulled the door open. liam already stood at the top of the stairs with his hand out to help her down. with a smile and a kiss on his cheek, lydia took his hand, looking at the boys as she did. the setup was the same as upstairs, with dates on opposite sides of the divider, though it mattered a little less with the boys. as she got to the end of the stairs, she sighed. “i can’t believe some of you still can’t put on ties.”
scott smiled innocently at her as she came to a stop in front of him, slipping the tie from his hands. “i don’t need to know how to put on a tie, that’s why i have you and jackson!”
“one day, they’re going to kill you,” liam said, slipping on the bracelets that lydia had put out for him. “and none of us are going to stop them. boyd will become the true alpha and we’re just going to let it happen.”
“that’s because boyd should’ve been the true alpha in the first place,” danny called out from the other side of the divider.
scott pouted, though there was no true hurt in the expression. “i came out to have a good time and i’m honestly feeling so attacked right now.”
dominic grinned, though he was on the same side of the divider as jackson and danny. “you’ll survive it, buddy.”
“rude!”
snickering, dominic went back to checking his hair in the vanity. “when can we go up, lyds?”
“in a minute,” the girl said, sitting scott down. “i still have to do everyone’s makeup. actually, can you do the guys on that side, dom? everyone should have a piece of paper telling you how much they need and what i want it to look like. it shouldn’t take long, because not everyone has makeup. and the people that do, the looks should be pretty simple.”
like a child on christmas, dominic jumped to the first makeup kit. “yes, please. holy shit, it’s been a while since i’ve had the chance to do this. lydia —- i love you. so damn much.”
she laughed again, shaking her head slightly. “anything for you, babe.”
“oh, lil, you look stunnin’,” eden whispered, her own eyes welling up with tears. it was a sight she’d never thought she’d see again: her sister, dressed to the nines, looking every bit like a queen. she hugged lily, pressing a kiss to her cheek before slinging an arm around prue.
“an’ you hush, missy,” she teased. “or i’ll start cryin’ all over you, too.” she dissolved into giggles as she spoke; seven years of a hard exterior cracked and crumbled and gone, letting free the girl she’d once been again.
willow smiled over at the other newly reunited family, her heart full; she was so happy they had each other, and they had this night. she was so happy they all did. looking back at violet, she went back to carefully weaving the flowers throughout her sister’s hair.
“you look just like a princess, betty,” she whispered, using the nickname her sister had shyly mentioned; violet lit up, beaming at willow’s compliment and the use of her nickname.
“thanks, loey,” she chirped. “you do, too! actually...your dress is almost white, so you kind of look like a bride, too,” she giggled, wiggling her eyebrows. willow blushed, giggling as well and focusing on the braided flower crown.
“oh, shh,” she giggled, kissing the top of violet’s head.
“i’m just saying! and i know kali is your best friend, so she probably has dibs on maid of honor, but i can still totally be a flower girl!” she suggested. willow just laughed again; secretly, the mention of it thrilled her, but she was in no big rush: when every moment back was like magic, every single second was one that felt special, and one she wanted to soak up. she felt like every day was already the most special of her life.
“kali, you are so beautiful,” she said warmly to her best friend, looking over at her and beaming.
across the room, lucy was spinning around to admire hayden’s beauty, as well. “aidy, you’re gorgeous!” she cried, hugging her. “i am so excited for this!” she knew hayden and brynn were going to show them all sorts of amazing things, and she couldn’t wait to be a part of her world.
lucy looked around, her eyes falling on lee as allison complimented her, grinning.
“isaac is going to pass out,” she predicted. “help me with the makeup for everyone?” she asked of her fellow artist, eager to get to the ball.
“cass is fully going to propose when she sees you,” katie giggled to fiona, overhearing willow and violet. “you look so perfect, babe! i can’t even handle how pretty you are!”
iliana finished ana’s hair, smoothing out her dress as she stood, while piper skipped over to gush over kira. cass and mickey were fixing their hair and laughing softly together as sabrina joined nadja and cecelia, and malia shyly approached jude, tatum and amari.
“did i do this right?”  the werewolf whispered, adjusting her dress. it was the fanciest thing she had ever worn. she was excited--- she had always dreamed of something like this--- but nervous, too. “and i...don’t know how to do makeup.”
“lydia can help with that, too,” allison called, waving as her best friend returned. “i hope jackson didn’t see you!” she teased.
“that’s weddings,” piper giggled.
“hey, if our dates aren’t allowed to see us, hers isn’t allowed to see her, either,” cass laughed, spinning around to face the banshee. “if jackson’s still on his feet, we can assume he didn’t; lyds, you are flawless.”
“and that’s enough about weddings from y’all,” eden teased, winking; she had a feeling several of the women in the room were close to it, so she was joking entirely.
“who’s doing the makeup on this side?” jackson called to lydia. “just kidding, it’s obviously me and elliot.”
“thank god i’m on your side,” stiles muttered to dominic.
“i heard that!”
“you were supposed to!”
boyd just laughed, straightening isaac’s tie for him.

‘I would tell my 13 year old self to not care what other people think and to always do your best, but don’t stress about doing your best if that makes any sense. Also, high school is only 4 years of your entire life and its really not as important at defining who you are as you think right now. There’s still a lot more life after that. Practice the things your are good at more. Don’t watch reality tv.’
