Loving the new issue of Fence! Lucky number 39. I have a new short story in here. For BOMB Magazine’s Editor’s Choice series, I spent time listening to “Blue Lagoon Woman,” the new EP from poet, vocalist, and composer Candice Hoyes – here’s what I heard (lovely music) – “From beginning to end, the album traverses wide sonic territory in the archives of jazz and soul—conjuring, for example, a potent mid-1970s session with Anthony Braxton that swirls into vibraphone rain thrumming a Manhattan taxi cab roof after a night spent grooving to R&B in the smoky lounge at Nell’s.
