he had his father’s legacy, and the name of a famed jedi knight, a man who had been known as a hero of the clone wars. yet ben skywalker had had proficiency with the force to live up to, and goodness, even despite, and he had struggled with both of those things for a very long while. and even now, he wondered, if maybe the things he thought were wrong or they could lead down a dark path—even the seemingly innocuous things, the things that had seemed so small to him, he analyzed, over and over again, to make sure he could never, and would never become like caedus. he wondered if his father struggled, even now with those things. or he had learned through years and years of practice. he knew better now then to think such things came naturally to him, “ I never meant to make it harder, “ the words were little more then a whisper, “ I never meant to…. fall for it. I should have come, but I was…. “ he looks down, the words catching his throat. he takes a deep breath to steady himself, before he looks back up toward him, regret plain within blue eyes, “ I was afraid, of you. of what you would say. if I wasn’t…. If I hadn’t, I knew that, something wasn’t right, for a while. but I didn’t want to see it. “

“Ben, you have to stand down on this.” Caedus made his voice stern. “That’s an order.”

“With all due respect, sir, you can shove that order down the nearest black hole.” Ben’s arm appeared in the holo, as though he were reaching for the transceiver controls. “You’re the one who turned me into a killer.”

he lingers before his aunt, rocking back and forth on his heels as he considers just how he might pose the question — surely whatever she was off to do was bound to be important — it often was, but he could be quiet, if he worked at it. and he had finished his lessons for the day, and he wanted nothing more then to be moving. to visit wherever she was heading even if he needed to be still, and could only observe. observing would be enough to occupy him ( but he was just a kid, and who knew if he would even be allowed to - he had not even made his lightsaber yet, he was not even a padawan yet. and who knew if…. if he would ever be ) even with his father’s and his mother’s help. who knew if he could ever feel anything but as if his very being was shying away from it. his uncle han wasn’t force sensitive and he was important, he had belonged in their family just fine, and he was a hero, he had been a hero, and there was nothing wrong with it. he knew there was nothing wrong with it. but it was expected of him, as his father and mother’s only child. and …. he didn’t want to disappoint them.

his aunt leia had not been too bothered in watching him before for his parents, and he was sure it would be fine if he went with her now, if he could — if he wouldn’t be put in danger in doing so. it would be fine, why wouldn’t it be ? “ can i come with you ? “ a little furrow forming in between the boy’s brows as wide blue eyes stare pleadingly up at his aunt, “ please, auntie leia ? i can stay quiet, if you need me to. and I can help with the little things, I promise, “ even if he couldn’t serve as her co pilot yet, he could do some things if she agreed to take him with her to make having him there a bit easier, “ mom and dad are busy, “ he started, “ and nanna plays the same old games with me, and they’re little kid games. i’ve already beaten them, more then once, and I’ve already done my homework. “ and he was plainly bored.
