The single scene I believe nailed down Kris's entire trajectory, that explained the most about them as a character, has to be their chapter four piano concert:

We, as the player, have no input in this scene at all. If you try to play the long sequence right, they'll just mess it up, prompting the dialogue anyway. There's no command from us that they twist in order to be "allowed" to play, no nudge from us in the right direction- they just snatch control, because Susie wants to hear them.

This is such a complete stab through the gut, not just because of their passion and the fluid animation and sheer expressiveness, but because Kris can just do that! It isn't that they physically can't play piano with the soul in the driver's seat, they just won't, until Susie empowers them to. No matter how badly they want the freedom to express themselves on their own terms, they restrain themselves. They let us take the reins and try to just submit, and they can't keep it up.

The interpretation this strikes me with, coupled with their "knighting" and their "promise" to the mysterious caller and their unspecified egg trauma... We know they know how we work, and that their plans with us are premeditated and calculated, at the behest of (maybe multiple) adults who have significant power over them. At least the Mayor is directing them to let themselves be turned into a vessel. We know this would have to have started before they went to the first Dark World, when Susie was still a bully, Noelle estranged and Ralsei not even in the picture.

We know that by the opening of the third fountain, by the time they're spinning prompts to get into banter with Susie and blocking us from being mean to Ralsei and drawing messages on windows and sneaking in as much of themselves into their relationships as possible, they've been turning themselves into our tool to be ultimately pitted against the group since day one. That no matter how much they can be coaxed out, at the end of the day, they have to be shoved back in their place, if not by us, by the Knight/mayor/etc who've facilitated this entire thing. That their choices don't matter.

Evil-Kris officially out, Deeply-Conflicted-Kris officially in. Of course earlier Kris tries to keep themselves closed off from the Extended Fun Gang- no matter how much they adventure together, how much they grow to like their company, Kris will inevitably, in their eyes, have to betray them. Because they made their choice before the story could even begin. Because they promised.

In light of recent news (and also the need to talk and share my AU/Multiverse some more) here is a rambling of stuff about my version of Horror and how he'll be in Pastdreams:

Of note: literally all of the Pastdreams characters are my own interpretations and headcanons of characters mixed with stuff I hear from other sources about what they're like from other fans. I usually try to refer to the characters by their nicknames because they are so different (ex. Dream here has a toxic positivity problem and an issue in seeing the moral greyness in things. So, I usually call him Sunflower as a result)

General

He's rather... normal? I mean normal in the bad sanses case. Since the story's plot starts with Ink going missing and both Dream and Nightmare's sides are at a standstill (they don't want to destroy the multiverse) and Error taking up Ink's job until further notice it ended up with the bad sanses kinda getting therapy?... not amazing therapy (as I view it as more of a start to helping your mental illnesses). So he still has his problems but seemingly the more put together compared to Dust (Particle) and Killer (Knives).

He does still have his moments sometimes and is still rather violent at times but that's a given with having severe brain damage. He does eventually get a dog (a Labrador/Pit bull mutt that has all of the plot armor in the story) that does bring him some solace, their name is Cinnamon

For sparring and supply runs he's rather reliable and still creepy. Most of the time he likes being quiet and is basically a wall when it comes to physical attacks. I mainly see him as a lumbering force just dragging his axe against concrete in the night.

Specifics

He does have headaches and pain behind his one eye (for obvious reasons) and he's usually more irritable those days, Nightmare (Moon) usually bites back if he snaps at him but usually he just seethes in silence

If he's walking with anyone while on a patrol he usually keeps them on the side with his blind spot. Something left over from Nightmare's uhm.... "normal" training

He forgets to blink sometimes so you get him staring at you... a lot

I do not support anything that has been confirmed to be done and true by Sour-apple-studios and I do not support them as a creator. Will I separate the au itself from the creator and continue making posts about horror? Yes. I will.

I do not care if SAS accepted the commission and actually drew it. In my eyes, that is not Horror. That is not Sans. To separate that has been done, adopt your own interpretation of Horror! Or other characters, because there has been a few other stuff rumoured to be made similar to the current popular situation.

People have the right to be mad about this, and you shouldn't and can't decide how they must react to this situation.

I don't put DNI's or anything, but if you ship Aliza x Sans or support SAS, then DNI for all I care. I do not tolerate this type of stuff.

In regards to horror sans I’m still going to use him and write him even with the controversy coming to light.

I think people shouldn’t panic that much about if they can still use ___ character after a creator comes out to be weird. To me these characters feel like pubic domain, a shared character that we all use.

People do it for goth, underlust, reaper, dreamtale or whatever,, it shouldn’t be any different to horror

It’s just sad seeing ppl take gasoline and cover their fan works with it and lighting it up

Am I uncomfortable with a lot of problematic creators? Definitely! I’m not bothered that people are uncomfortable with the work

But I think limiting people and yourself on what characters they can use is kinda just a way to kill the fandom.

That’s my thoughts tho. Just worried with how dead the fandom is people killing off their creations will snuff it out more

Alright guys a specific handful of you are pissing me off.

Yes, I've heard the news about SourAppleStudios. No, I don't defend it. I am actively disgusted.

But you know what else shouldn't be defended? The idea that "Horrortale belongs to the AU Community" now. That's blatant fucking theft. Just because the creator turned out to be a sicko (no fucking surprise there) DOES NOT mean you get to add your own disappointing and deplorable behavior on top of that. What is this, the drama competition? I thought we wanted to be better than this.

Pull yourselves together and make your own Horrortale. For fuck's sake. Stealing shit won't make this better. It will make an already bad situation WORSE. It'll just make more assholes out of you and this fandom. It will add to the population of creators that already fear making their projects public, cause the worst and most impulsive of you react this way to bad news on the dot, every single fucking time you learn about something you don't like.

Horrortale's ownership won't change, you have no right to take that, but you CAN make a version of the story that you like better.

Please do that. It is the superior option to theft and blatant disrespect of artists in this fandom anyway.

Don't fucking stoop to a low ass level instead. Don't add to the ridiculous amount of toxicity we already have here.

Been seeing things related to SaS being a proship (they drew commissioned work of an aged-up Aliza at the beach in Horror's lap, art looks suggestive at best from what I can see), usually I don't like to make info posts like this but I felt the need to.

PLEASE separate art from the artist, Horrortale has its flaws sure, but don't let Sour Apple's actions control how you view Horror. To see better examples look at stuff like Dreamtale and Underlust. Those two are completely separate from their creators and feed our creativity as now they've been absorbed into the vast void of this fandom

2 (creative thing).

If you have an AU of Horror, I'd recommend running with whatever and straying from canon if you haven't already. I have a Horror in Pastdreams that is VERY different from Canon Horror.

I genuinely think people shouldn't get posts like "uhm... you sure you should post Horror?" Or "don't use Horror, his creator is problematic" or whatever (idk, been out of the loop since November when pokèmon took over and have mainly been working on my own work off of Tumblr), just be civil and a creator's actions doesn't reflect on the work (in this case at least)
