Whole 30 - Complete!
Yesterday was day 30 of whole 30 and I'm happy to say it's done and dusted. Pretty proud of myself for sticking with it, definitely battled a few temptation demons along the way but I came out on top. Boy am I glad it done though, it was getting tough towards the end, I personally just felt restricted by some of the rules. So that's 30 days without: Bread, Pasta, Biscuits, Crisps, Sugar, Wheat, Grains, Dairy, Cheese and YES Chocolate. This morning I weighed in at 13st 0lbs so I'm down 10lb in 30 days, not bad at all. The main changes though are mental really, I feel more in control of food choices. I have surprised myself in cooking new things and I hope I can continue to prepare healthy meals for during the week and be on top of food planning. I feel like I'm starting to have a better idea of what works for my body. Hopefully the next few weeks will help me to really hone it in as I reintroduce certain foods and see how they affect me. Since today was the first day after whole 30, I could have went on a complete bender. I didn't. I did have a few indulgences but nothing overboard. Interestingly I have a little headache tonight which could well be my body telling me off for having sugar today. Back to healthier eating tomorrow. :) From here I'm planning to do a variation of Paleo. I still need to figure out the kinks, and with festive season I expect it won't be 100% paleo for the next month. My main goal for the next month is to maintain weight I'm at now. With an eye to get more off in the new year. Whole 30 was rewarding but hard. So I don't want to undermine the effort I put in. I already feel a lot better in my own skin though. Clothes are looser and I'm feeling less bloated. I've learned lots during the process and honestly I'd recommend anyone try it, it's a tough journey but worth the challenge and giving the body a clean cut from all the junk it normally has to process. Interestingly one of the biggest things I learned along the way is how much added crap there is in supermarket food. Everything from vegetable stock to sausages had hidden sugar in it. I was aware of this before, but I think 30 days of avoiding it completely finally made me appreciate how much all that hidden sugar and additives can add up. Whole 30 made me appreciate cooking food from scratch with real ingredients. And you know what? I made some really delicious meals during that time. Never felt particularly hungry and felt happy that my body was getting a good balance of food it actually needs. I wasted was too much of my calorific intake on useless carbs. Not to put down carbs completely, but I now feel like I appreciate the difference between wholesome carbs with fibre and other nutrients than the bread/chocolate and sugar based rubbish I was filling my diet out with. Setting myself a new challenge for December to focus on exercise. Mainly weight lifting. So with that in mind I'm of to lift heavy things at the gym tomorrow! Sea out. ;)

Days 2 & 3 - Whole 30
Tumblr media
So I’ve been a bit quiet the last two days. This was really just due to me adjusting to the new eating plan and settling in. For the most part, days two and three have went fairly well. Main things to note is that I’ve been quite sleepy, but that could be attributed to the shift in temperature and darker days...
Monday was a little rough at first. I didn't give myself nearly enough for breakfast and was really hungry by about 11am. Combine that with the left-over office Halloween sweets, that were a few metres from my desk, and those sugar craving where making themselves known. Fortunately there were also some compliant mixed nuts in the pickings. So I snaffled a small handful back to my desk to keep me going. I've successfully ignored the rest so far, though the bounty still lives on. Hopefully the rest of the office will have demolished it by tomorrow and it will be less of a concern.
Things I have tried/discovered:
Roasted Mango as a guilt free warm dessert is amazing!
I hate all Tea, Coffee, Green/Herbal/Fruit teas without sweeteners. Blecht.
I now own a fruit infusing water bottle. It is awesome.
I made a Moroccan curry dish for the first time and turned out great!
I love my crockpot. It makes me look like a culinary rock-star.
Meals:
Day 2:
Breakfast: Hardboiled egg, and a banana
Lunch: Left over Italian chicken stew
Dinner: Grilled chicken, roasted peppers, onion and sweet potato fries
Snacks: Handful of nuts, and some grapes
Day 3:
Breakfast: Hardboiled egg, banana an apple and some grapes
Lunch: Left over Italian chicken stew and some fresh spinach leaves
Dinner: Moroccan Lamb/Beef curried stew
Snacks: Half a mango roasted with cinnamon and ginger.
I’ll try and collect some pictures of my meals in future. At the moment I'm too hungry to stop and take a picture! Interestingly the only thing I'm really missing so far is tea/coffee and a splash of diluting juice in water. A colleague mentioned getting a chippy for dinner and I definitely felt a pang of jealousy. My tasty dinner more than made up for it though.
According to the Whole 30 timeline, tomorrow is when all the headaches/feels are meant to happen. So for those who might see me tomorrow, I cannot be held responsible for my Hangry actions. ;)

Day 1 - Whole 30
Start Weight: 13st 10lbs (192lbs)
So day 1 has gone well so far. I did a huge food shop of fresh fruit, veggies, coconut milk/oil, herbs and some chicken breast. Tonight I whipped out the crock-pot and filled it with a tasty Italian chicken stew for dinner. The leftovers should provide me with lunches for the next few days. All in all feeling really good if a teeny bit hungry, probably partly blamed on the fact I missed breakfast.
Day one meals:
Breakfast: Missed it to go food shopping, opps!
Lunch: 2 Egg omelette with onion, tomato, pepper, spinach and Italian herbs. Cooked with coconut oil.
Dinner: Italian chicken stew, home-made sweet potato fries and a poached egg.
Snacks: Small bowl of fruit (Pomegranates, banana, and grapes) and an Apple
Water: Nowhere near enough! I will work on this.
Things I’ve learned so far:
Coconut oil adds a weird but not unpleasant taste to omelette.
Drinking tea and coffee without sweeteners is going to be challenging.
Water without flavouring is still bloody boring. (Perhaps after 30 days with no flavouring I’ll learn to like that H20 stuff plain)
I’ve had a few people asking what whole 30 entails so I’ll try and write up a more concise post about it tomorrow.
Feeling good about it all so far, we’ll see how I fare tomorrow..

ForkOffFood Respawns!
So those of you who followed me in the past know I had great success with weight loss on VLC diet ‘Cambridge diet’.
4 years later and a lot has happened since then and for various reasons I find myself back at my start weight from before my previous weight journey. Oops.
It’s been an amazing upside down few years. I wouldn't change a minute but it’s come with a side effect of being less mindful about food and a creeping on of some lbs.
Now, thanks to a pretty special ‘soon to be Mr ForkOffFood’, I'm due to get married next year in Aug! During the wedding planning process I've become aware that me and my body still have some issues to work out. Nothing like picking 'The Little White Dress’ of your dreams to bring on panic attacks about your body image! Or how you are going to look stood in front of all your friends and family on your big day.
While Cambridge diet was good to me in the past it didn’t really teach me how to eat healthily going forward. It didn’t help me to figure out how to eat right for my body. To be fair to the plan it encourages those on it to come off the diet slowly, reintroducing food and calories at a slow rate in order to teach dieters how to continue to eat right going forward. I however got excited about my new body and basically quit it cold turkey. I ate well and maintained my weight for a couple of years, but old habits die hard and that way of thinking eventually came undone.
Ultimately CD isn't the right approach for someone who as at all active. The diet basically recommends nothing but gentle walking in terms of exercise. Since my previous weight loss; that’s just not me any more! I play roller derby and train on average twice a week and recently started very slow progress, in weightlifting.
So realistically I need a much higher calorific intake and ideally I want to teach myself how to to eat the right balance of healthy foods to fuel my body and feel better.
Weight loss will be an added bonus but basically I want to retrain my eating habits, and crucially stick with it for an extended period of time. This is a chance for me to prove to myself that I have the discipline to stay on track and put my body before crap food decisions!
In a determined attempt at full accountability, and to keep myself motivated, I am resurrecting ForkOffFood to take on a whole 30 challenge!
Starting tomorrow (1st Nov 2015) I will be eating nothing but whole foods for 30 days.
The whole 30 website has an excellent explanation of the challenge for those who know nothing about it. Simply speaking it will involve eating unprocessed fruit, veg, meat, fish and eggs while avoiding dairy, grains, sugar and processed foods for a full 30 days.

There will be no calorie counting found here. I will also be putting the scales away for a month as well since the whole 30 plan is strict about not weighing yourself for the duration.
With that in mind I will post my day 1 weight and I’ll post my weight again at day 30. In between I’ll just be posting about my progress, both mentally and physically and any general things I learn/notice along the way. I might even post up some recipes I make along the way.
So without further ado welcome back to ForkOffFood!

Another week, another weigh in.
Start Weight: 13st 11lbs (193lbs)
Current Weight: 10st 12lbs (152lbs)
Goal Weight: 10st (140lbs)
Total loss: -41lbs (2st 13lbs)
I've broken into the 10's people! *Happy Dances*. Weighed in at 10st 12lbs. I now have only 12lbs left to lose. Only 1lb to lose to hit the 3st lost goal. And only 2-3lbs to lose to be in my healthy BMI range. BUT WEIGHT! (hoho) THERE'S MORE!
After a hairy couple of weeks trying to get my mind in gear on the diet, things hit a bit of a low. I was struggling to maintain focus. I was still losing weight but frankly I was going about it in all the wrong ways. For two real reasons:
1) When I started my weight was something which made me unhappy
The need to be happy overcame my need to eat junk. The notion of feeling better in myself stopped me from giving up, even for "just one" gummi bear. Come Christmas I'd lost 2 and half stone and the difference in my appearance altered this dynamic. My weight didn't make me unhappy anymore. Sure I hadn't reached my goal, but I looked and felt a 100 times better. So surely one  little Jelly Bean (or several and a pizza) wouldn't hurt. Not a good mental place to be in.
2) How the hell I was going to cope on real food again.
It's one thing to lose weight, keeping it off is a whole other ball game.  I've yoyo'd with my weight a few times and the thought of being heavy again was like a monster from my worst nightmares. I was seriously worried about how I was going to be able to go from milkshakes and bars, to eating carbs and proper meals again, without piling the weight back on. I'd come this far, like hell was I going back.
Like a silly plonker, I did what I often do when I'm struggling with something. I pushed it under the rug and hoped no-one, besides myself, would notice. Fortunately there is no fooling some people and a wonderful friend stepped in to set me straight and give me a damn good talking too. Just as well really since I kept tripping over the rug.
As a result I finished Cambridge Diet this week and have made a switch to Diet Chef. The difference with this will be threefold:
1) It's real food, with portion control.
2) It's a higher calorie intake which will be ideal for my new activities.
3) It allows me to also test meals and cooking for myself whilst still being calorie concious.
All of this means I'll continue to lose weight more slowly whilst also training myself how to maintain in the future. Started officially today and so far I'm loving all the meals. Good times indeed.

A very over-due update:
It’s been ages. My bad. Work and Christmas kind of took over. That and I got lazy…I’ll promptly stop with that now.
Anyway it’s a new year, HAPPY belated NEW YEAR, and I am on the last leg of this crazy weight loss journey. Before Christmas I got down to the grand old weight of 11st and 6 pounds. Which I was pretty happy with.  Since the festivities ended I have been back on the diet and had my second official weigh in yesterday. I now weigh 11stone and…wait for it…
…..1 pound!  That’s:
- 38lbs lost in total
- 2lbs off being under 11 st
- 5lbs off having lost a full 3 stone
-4lbs off hitting my healthy BMI range
AND only 15lbs off hitting my goal. It’s in the bags folks! New target is to reach my goal by my 24th Birthday in March. Bring it ON!

Week 11 weigh in.
Yey! Another 2lbs off. Probably would have been more but water intake was a bit pants. All in the right direction though.
Start Weight: 13st 11lbs (193lbs)
Current Weight: 11st 8lbs (162lbs)
Goal Weight: 10st (140lbs)
{Week 1: -8lbs} {Week 2: -2lbs} {Week 3: -3lbs} {Week 4: -4lbs}
{Week 5: -0lbs} {Week 6: - 5lbs} {weeks 7+8: -5lbs}{weeks 9+10= -2lbs}
Week 11: -2lbs! :D
Total loss: -31lbs (2st 3lbs)
My new goal for Christmas is to get down under 11st. I only have 9lbs to go to get there. Seems fairly do-able, but we shall see given that 'tis the season of work nights out, family gatherings and general social eating.  The first of which is tomorrow. Our "annual family present swap" with relatives who live in Yorkshire. Every year in the month before Christmas we meet up in the borders somewhere, have a meal and then everyone crowds round various car boots to exchange large bagfuls of presents.  Since I don't fancy:  A) Having to explain the diet to the extended family  B) Attempting to make a bar last a full 3 course meal for 2+ hours. My plan is to take a small break for lunch tomorrow. I'm SS+ now so if at all possible I will try to find something suitable. Otherwise I will just go with the flow, not beat myself up and have a few pure SS (pack only) days afterwards to undo any damage and get myself back into ketosis. Whatever happens, it's me in control. :] I'll let you all know how it goes!

Week 10 Weigh In
Hello folks. Sorry for the lack of posts, it's been a busy couple of weeks.
I started the new job two weeks ago, and I managed to keep the diet under control. Even while in an office of gents munching take away noodles, soup and sandwiches. So top marks there! I also, went away to Paris last Friday for 4 days and had the most amazing time. I had planned on staying fairly low carb and sticking to ss+ guidelines, but in all honesty seeing the prices of restaurants, meals and drinks out there I quickly threw that notion to the wind. Instead I decided to have some fun and make it an opportunity to do two things while I was there. 1) See how I fared with conventional food. How would I feel after eating 3 full meals a day? Did eating carbs effect how I felt? 2) Have a chance to try a few things I hadn't had before (or had not tried for a long time because I'd convinced myself I didn't like them). I learnt a lot. Firstly, I started to get a feel for portion size. Accidentally having to much for dinner one evening, made it vastly apparent to me the difference between being nicely full, and over-feeding oneself. Interestingly the quantity I had, was far less than I might have traditionally eaten in the past. I also found myself saying "no that's enough" and putting my fork down, having only eaten about a 3rd of the plate. I discovered a few new foods I liked. Smoked Salmon for one. I had tried this in the past as a young teen and turned my nose up at it. I'm not a fussy eater but fish was never something used to much like. However, having started the diet I have started to really crave trying healthy foods I have overlooked in the past, fish being one. I know I don't get enough iron in my diet so it will be good to rectify this in future, I still need to try some oily fish like mackerel. I also tried French onion soup, which was delicious. Definitely going attempt my own version at some point. Though, possibly wise to also include after dinner mints... I probably ate far to much bread and carb in general during the four days. However, I noticed on the second and third day that this made feel sluggish and found myself opting for healthier options at breakfast where the choice was free and plentiful. All in all, I learnt plenty about myself and food while I was away. Came back on the Tuesday and went straight back on to the Cambridge packs. My hopes had been that over the past two weeks I would be able to simply maintain the weight I was at last weigh in, or at the very least keep the damage to a minimum. So I weighed myself this morning to see where I stood.
*gulps* 2lbs down! Yus! :] Despite my slight bender on holiday I have lost weight, but also I'm now officially 1 stone above my healthy BMI. I can go up to ss+ and re-introduce one meal a day. Also officially 2 stone down now!
Start Weight: 13st 11lbs (193lbs)
Current Weight: 11st 10lbs (164lbs)
Goal Weight: 10st (140lbs)
{Week 1: -8lbs} {Week 2: -2lbs} {Week 3: -3lbs} {Week 4: -4lbs}
{Week 5: -0lbs} {Week 6: - 5lbs} {weeks 7+8: -5lbs}
Week 9+10: -2lbs! :D
Total loss: -29lbs (2st 1lbs)
Mini Goals:
Make it through the first day - Done
Make it through the first 3 days - Done
Make it through a week - Done
Lose half a stone - Done
Get Under 13st - Done
Lose a stone - Done
Last a month - Done
Get under 12st - Done!
Lose 2 Stone - Done! :D
Get to 11st 10 (1st above healthy BMI) - Done! :D
Get Under 11st - (Goal for Christmas)
Lose 3 Stone -
Get down to 10st -
My plan is to do ss+ until Christmas time, and hopefully lose another 10/11lbs, which would get me under 11 stone. Then I can tackle that last stone in the new year as I progress up the steps. Wishful thinking perhaps but I'll just have to: "Do, Or do not. There is no try."

Weigh in for Week 8 and 7:
Start Weight: 13st 11lbs (193lbs)

Goal Weight: 10st (140lbs)
{Week 1: -8lbs} {Week 2: -2lbs} {Week 3: -3lbs}{Week 4: -4lbs :D}{Week 5: -0lbs} {Week 6: - 5lbs!}
Week 7+8: -5lbs! :D
Total loss: -27lbs (1st 13lbs)
Mini Goals:
Make it through the first day - Done
Make it through the first 3 days - Done
Make it through a week - Done
Lose half a stone - Done
Get Under 13st - Done
Lose a stone - Done
Last a month - Done
Get under 12st - Done! :D
Lose 2 Stone - So close it hurts (1lb off!)
Get to 11st 10 (1st above healthy BMI) - (2lbs to go)
Get Under 11st -
Lose 3 Stone -
Get down to 10st -
So another 5lbs down! This makes me 1lb, that's right just 1, away from having lost 2 stone.  I'm also officially under 12st! Yey! I have not been under 12st since my teens so I am mega chuffed!
I only have 2lbs, just 2, too get down to a stone above my healthy BMI. I am all full of the happy dance right now!
Next few weeks are going to be a bit interesting. Firstly I start my new job on Monday and I will have to get used to a new routine and fitting the diet around that. I will also being going away to Paris from Friday next week to Monday the following week. Cambridge diet won't be travelling with me.
As a result I will be aiming to eat foods which fall within the "ss+" guidelines. This basically means eating white meats and veggies (and avoiding carb). Since I will be having real food for the full weekend I fully expect this will impact my weightloss. So my main aim for the next two weeks is to simply maintain the weight I am at just now. I'll check back in, in two weeks and let you guys know how I got on. :/
Once I am back from Paris it will be on to the Cambridge meals again until I hit 11st 10lbs. Once there, I step up onto SS+ which means adding a meal a day to my 3 packs. Really looking forward to getting there, having more variety and being able to become a right little Nigella in the kitchen.
Just one last little hurrah, I have officially been at this for two whole months now. :]

Also on a little side note, I bought another cute "inspiration" dress. What? Yeah I know. It was just an excuse to buy another dress. However, I got it in a size 10 for when I get to goal. It fits now! :0

So my weigh in last fri I lost a grand total of.....wait for it....
Nothing, nill, zip, zilch. Yep thats right 0lbs. In the end this was down to a serious lack of water. It's also pretty usual for people to experience a little plateau on any diet, so I wasn't too downtrodden about it.
Anyway I thought I would post some before and after style pics to give you guys an idea of progress so far. I'll say sorry now for the rubbish quality, they are not desperately clear comparisons. I'll try and make them a bit better next time round. Mkay. :]
Weigh in again on friday and this week I have been living on water like some sort of aquatic creature. So hopefully the scales will relate. I'll keep you posted folks!

Day 20:
So far, so good! My will power is still going strong, and I'm kinda amazed by myself right now. 20 days without "real" food, it's only the beginning I know, but I still feel really proud of getting this far.
Today I tried a little experiment for lunch and mixed one of my chocolate orange shakes with hot water. Hey presto hot chocolate! It was actually very nice, so I think I'll be trying that out with the mint chocolate shake next.
My next weigh in is on Friday and I'm hopeful that I've lost a bit more than last week. Might have had a sneaky look on the scales yesterday...
Also my jeans are so big I now can't wear them without a belt, else they end up round my ankles. Not a great look. My belt is also on it's very last inner hole. So a new belt and jeans are going to be a must in a short time. :D

Day 16: if the shoes fits..or the jumper!
So all is well in crazy diet land. I've been trying out the CD bars this week, which have so far been really nice. I'm going to get round to writing a proper review of all the CD meals in due course, I promise.
Anyway, I finally pestered my mum into taking me up to the storage unit to retrieve my xbox. Yus! So I’ll be setting that bad boy up in next to no time. While I was there I came across a box of jumpers and snaffled some of them home, as winter is fast approaching.
Most of the ones I selected were a bit tight on me last year or didn’t really fit at all. I’ve just had a trying on session to take stock of which fit now, and which will fit in due course as more weight comes off.
They all fit now. All 10 of them. In fact, 2 are too big! o.0
Needless to say I am going to be cosy this winter! :D

Day 15: Week 2 weigh In
Stats:
Start Weight: 13st 11lbs (193lbs)
Current Weight: 13st 1lbs (183lbs)
Goal Weight: 10st (140lbs)
Week 1: -8lbs :D
Week 2: -2lbs
Total Loss: -10lbs
Well it's not as good as I was hoping but I'm still down another 2lbs! 10lbs in two weeks is nothing to sniff at, so I am keeping my chin up! However, I am aware of two factors this week which may have prevented me from losing more.
Reason the first.
I haven't been drinking nearly enough water, I was probably averaging 1 and a half litres a day, which is not ideal when I am supposed to be getting down 2 and a half to 3 litres a day. So from now on my mantra is "Learn to Love water!".
Reason the second!
This week I also reintroduced black tea with sweetener. I think the combination of caffeine and sweeteners might have added to the slowed weight loss. So from here on out its water, water, water!
On the brighter side of things, my CDC said I have lost 4in on my waist, in two weeks. Get in! I've got down a BMI bracket too and I have also figured out that I have lost roughly a 5th of my total weight loss goal. That's 10lbs out of 53lbs so only 43lbs to go! Bring it! :D

Day 12:Motivation
All goes well with the diet, so I don't have to much to report. I was however, a little bit naughty and I bought the above as an added incentive to get down to the 10st mark. It arrived today in a size twelve and is proudly hanging in front of my wardrobe to keep me motivated. Hows that for inspiration eh?
Any one that knows me, will tell you that I don't often wear dresses. In fact until about a year ago I wouldn't even wear skirts. So that is something I am going to change once I am slimmer.
Sea out. x
