Things I love about the “villain turns good” trope:
Ex-villains graduating to “weird uncle” status.
Ex-villains and hero(es) turning the events of previous battles into bizarre inside jokes.
Ex-villains embracing the power of friendship and love.
Ex-villains putting up walls and keeping to themselves until the heroes teach them what it means to trust someone.
Ex-villains messing up and being forgiven because redemption is a process, not an endgame.
Ex-villains being shy and uncertain about their new place as a hero.
Bonus: Ex-villains hiding behind their hero friends during moments of shyness and uncertainty.
Ex-villains being tempted back to the dark side only to realize how much their newfound friendships mean to them.
Ex-villains pretending to return to the dark side, and using their villain cred to be a mole/saboteur on the heroes’ behalf.
Ex-villains taking the same skills and character traits that made them effective villains and using them for good.
Ex-villains defeating current villains by being better at those skills and traits than they are.
Ex-villains being rejected by almost everyone except the very few willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Ex-villains being ferociously protective of those few.
Ex-villains convincing old allies and friends to follow them to the light side.
Ex-villains helping their hero friends through guilt and self-doubt by reminding them that your mistakes don’t make you and it’s never too late to turn things around.
Ex-villains receiving unconditional trust and affection from someone small and innocent, and having no idea what they’re supposed to do with that.
Ex-villains reuniting with heroic loved ones that they don’t have to fight against anymore.
Ex-villains looking around at their new friends and their new home and having to sit down and ride out a sudden wave of powerful emotion because they can’t remember the last time they felt content.

“What the hell makes you think we want the same things? Maybe somewhere deep down in there, you’ve got good intentions. But ends justify the means isn’t a rationalisation I’ve ever bought.”
“You’ve been saying that for years, Thaal, but here I am, still alive. You keep telling me not to make promises I can’t keep– you should really take your own advice sometime.”
❝ You haven’t bought many things, Jordan. Isn’t that why Miss Ferris is pissed off at you lately? Something about not making rent. Really, it’s quite pathetic. All that power and all this self righteousness yet you can’t even function in your civilian life. ❞
❝ It wouldn’t be worth it if you died too quickly. You are my student, after all. If any fool off the street managed to kill you then I would have failed you as a teacher. And what would that have said about me? ❞

thesmartestmanofmetropolis:
Before Lex could make a retort the globe was roughly shaken sending Lex tumbling head over heels and soon Lex found himself on the bottom of the globe which was now apparently upside down. It just kept getting worse.
Perhaps his brain just too jumbled in the globe but did he hear Sinestro correctly? Your goal in life to please me?! The globe disappeared and Lex was able to stand on solid ground again which felt good even if it was an alien planet.

On his knees taking in deep breaths, Lex finally glared up at Sinestro as the man spoke the name of the planet. This was a mess, and Lex knew nobody could get him out.
“So what now?” He simply asked, feeling defeated.
Instead of answering right away, Sinestro created the very same sledge hammer he used in a hand and dropped it at Luthor’s feet. His smirk was more apparent as he looked down his nose upon the human.
❝ Use your imagination, Luthor. You’re on Qward. The only thing to do here is wander the wastes, be tortured by my corps, or break rock. ❞ Sinestro raised his brows and expected Luthor to take the offered construct. It’d disappear withing 24 hours if a lantern didn’t destroy it first.

"Looks like yer gonna get visited by a man in RED after all!!"
WHY
The Korugarian was a GOOD tyrant. He deserved many things but never this. No one ever deserved this. What monster gave Lobo a power ring? Why did this monster grant a power ring to one of the many beings who didn’t deserve it? No matter what, Lobo was Atrocitus’ problem now.
❝ I don’t believe it. ❞

❝ Then speak and by the stars, Riddler, if you complain about one more thing, I will yank you into space and drop you on the moon before you can even blink, ❞ he growled out. Sinestro meant every word of his threat, the yellow glow of his suit glowed brighter. It’s not everyday the lantern came to Gotham much less walk it’s filthy streets. Business had called him to Earth and self perseverance kept him from simply flying off. The green lanterns were still looking for him and it wasn’t safe.
❝ What is it you wish so badly to know? ❞ He glanced over at the human at his side with his yellow black eyes. Sinestro crossed his arms over his broad chest and raised a brow in question.
@formidolumina Continued from here.
“I understand you don’t care now, but that’s a starting point for any conversation! People never inherently care; the only exception is my presence before my fans. I have their deepest fealty.”
He folded his hands behind his back. “To your other point, I complain because I can help. Others need my help. If they weren’t sorely lacking in basic organizational and logical capacities, I would lack complaints.”
He clasped his hands together. “Now then, impatient, my grievance is that I haven’t had an opportunity to speak with you much! Surely, your creativity could be of great benefit if I had the opportunity to engage with it.”

💍 – for your muse to propose to mine during the holidays (after a second of letting that sink in, Wally adds that he's proposing to never mention the Marshmallow Man again)
Winter Holiday Symbols💍 – for your muse to propose to mine during the holidays
Sinestro is still as he’s ever been and simply stares. Thank the stars, the Flash corrected himself and clarified what exactly he was proposing. For a moment there, Sinestro actually feared that the hero meant something else. Was it wrong he wouldn’t have known what to say if his initial thought were true? No sense wondering over the what ifs and instead better to concentrate on what it was the Flash seemed concerned about.
❝ Ah, the creature. I agree. We shall never speak of it. ❞ He gave a solemn nod in response. It seemed pointless to tell the Flash over the SpaceBook’s video going viral of a certain hero’s gluttonous actions. It’s not like the Flash was on SpaceBook. He knows. He checked.

Begrudgingly, he gives Sinestro the contents of a box; at first glance, it appears to just be a smooth spiral-patterned stone or shell; pretty, but seemingly pointless until he says, "It belonged to Abin Sur. I found it a long time ago." This, apparently, is intended to be his real Christmas gift. "I don't know what it is. But I figured you'd appreciate it more than me."
Sinestro’s frown was immediate upon the name of Abin Sur. The tyrant was tense before and only tensed further at the present, figurative hackles raised. With great reluctance and a bit of grumbling, Sinestro took the box in hand and used his ring to analyze it’s contents. Once deemed safe it won’t blow up in his face does he open it. The tyrant breathed in sharply, yellow black eyes widened, and almost dropped the box. It felt like he was swallowing around a rock. He kept calm, lips thinned as he closed the box once more.
❝ I appreciate the sentiment, Hal. Now, if you’ll excuse me. ❞ He didn’t wait for a reply and immediately flew away. Within the box was something precious, something sacred, a symbol of a broken bond that came down to a combined tie bearing the name of Arin Sur. He thought it was lost. Who knew that Abin kept such a thing this entire time?

Winter Holiday Symbols🎁 – to give my muse a holiday gift
What does one get for someone as flamboyant and self absorbed as the Riddler? WHY even bother getting him a gift would be the better question however, the tyrant aimed to confuse everyone else with the random thoughtfulness. Whether the villain actually liked the gift was a whole different conundrum and one the tyrant wasn’t sure he cared to know.
Waiting outside was a 1935 Ford Roadster colored a soft green. Nothing as ostentatious as Riddler usual shade of green however, it wasn’t like the villain couldn’t give it a new paint job. It was in mint condition, clean and sleek. A card was stuck within the vehicle’s window wipers that said:
One is for business, the other for pleasure.
Of course, the tyrant forgot to elaborate on his statement much less notify the Riddler of the trunk full of sexual toys and $5,000 stolen gimp suit.

Winter Holiday Symbols🎁 – to give my muse a holiday gift
The tyrant didn’t have as much time as he had before with this next gift for Aimee given that he was trapped in outer space for a greater part of the year. It didn’t leave him with enough time to get something more expensive or crafted to his standards. Given this, Sinestro still managed to get his niece something acceptable.

Waiting on Aimee’s bedside table was a small box that was wrapped with a satin black ribbon. Within, was a blue rose that’d last an entire year before it died. Something longer lasting than the usual and simple enough to be delivered on such short notice.

Winter Holiday Symbols🎁 – to give my muse a holiday gift
Gifts were not Sinestro’s strong suit being that it was not something he received often much less give away without reason. What made the entire situation even stranger is the gift recipient being a hero. Still, he made a valiant effort in his attempt and practically cornered the speedster in a darkened corner of some alley. In hindsight, probably not the best course of action given their current loyalties being on opposing sides. The tyrant held a simply wrapped gift within his hands as he landed on the ground. He took a few steps forward towards the hero and handed over the box with a bow on top.

❝ Here. For that time you looked the other way. ❞ The box rattled and something alive was clearly inside. If the Flash opened it, he’d find a hamster wearing a bow tie bumping around the inside of the box’s walls with it’s plastic ball.
