Zoological Illustrations of a Porcelain Clown with and without the removable face plate as well as the feeding parts of a Teacup Clown as illustrated by an unknown zoologist and early clownologist.
The Porcelain clown removes its face plate exclusively when feeding on snail shells. It has been observed that its musculature is covered by a delicate, translucent, skin-like membrane that secretes a porcelain or matte bisque-like calcium carbonate shell on its body and face, which is shed annually. Additionally, their teeth have been compared to those of the Black Drum Fish, as they are well-suited for crushing mollusk shells, enabling the organism to recycle the calcium carbonate for the development of its own armored body. The Teacup clown's rigid shell exterior is immobile and cannot be removed for feeding. Consequently, the clown has developed an adaptive feeding mechanism involving a proboscis, similar to the mouthparts of a mosquito. This structure includes a hypopharynx that delivers a digestive enzyme to the selected food, whether it is an insect or a scavenged sweet treat. The clown then uses the labrum to suction the liquefied nutrients for ingestion.

As New Years comes ever so closer, here's a reminder to make sure your clown is Safe and Sound!
It's noisy out there, and while most clowns love a celebration, the loud and sudden bangs of fireworks might scare your poor friends! Make sure to provide some comfort, a safe place to rest/hide in, and please don't push your clowns if they don't want to go out!
Stay safe, love, and be funny {:0)

Quick reminder to everyone before the holiday season that clowns are big commitments! Do NOT get someone a clown as a gift without them knowing about it beforehand. Shelters always see a huge spike in clown dropoffs after the holiday, because people get clowns as gifts and can't take care of them. Please, think before you gift a clown. They have feelings just like you.

Of course!
I’ll start with scares, since I know the most about them. They have a pretty meat heavy diet in comparison to other clowns, (and there’s a variety of meat preferences, believe me. Phenomena and Dolly would never eat the same thing). For candy, they like the typical halloween type candies, such as candy corn, skittles, and they are actually some of the few clown types that can handle hard candy. They can be very territorial, and even aggressive to new clowns in their environment, though they rarely actually attack other clowns and mostly try to scare them off. They can be similar with humans, though they tend to be much more accepting of new humans in their environment. This isn’t true about kids at all though. Scares are super protective of children, human or otherwise, even unfamiliar chucklets. I’ve even heard things about them being commonly used as nannies by rich families in the 1800s. They can be socialized to live with another clown, though it can be a long and difficult process. Scare clowns also love to jump out at people/clowns they like, as an odd way of showing affection. You get used to it
Plushes are super sweet and friendly. They love cuddles and soft things, it’s common to give plushes stuffed animals as a form of enrichment. I’ve seen so many cute plush videos of them taking their favorite toys everywhere they go. I know Dolly always did lol
Both breeds are also super tuned into emotions, and will do their best to comfort you when you’re feeling down. Despite scares’ negative stereotypes and all the people who say that plushes aren’t intelligent, they really are some of the most amazing clown breeds out there, and are nothing like the Evil Scare or Dumb Plush stereotypes that are the only ways they get portrayed on tv
Goodmorrow fellow clown husbandrists ( unsure if that's the correct term but oh well I suppose I will live ), I am currently doing a mass scale research project on clowns as a whole. My grandparents had two pierrot clowns who unfortunately have passed away, but I remember them very fondly. I've heard tale now that the pierrot is not usually friendly around children but to my memory the pierrot clowns owned by my grandparents were very sweet to my brother and i. Then it got me more into trying to research and eventually when deciding upon my college major I decided to choose clown husbandry. My college professor seemed very shocked when I came into class, apparently it's very uncommon for people to choose this major? Unsure of why, but I'm guessing that's why my sources of information have been lacking outside of Tumblr. I am hoping once I get a better understanding I can write a full length text, with some photographs i will be taking while out in the wild, that allows people to understand clown husbandry better. I am more than excited to hear any information you have.

Don't feed wild clowns.
Kinds of pet clowns that are receptive to hand feeding and kinds that are not.
Party, scare, circus, rodeo, fool, and parade. Are all types of clowns that have been deeply socialized to people. And have been shaped by the evolution to take handouts from humans. A party clown will accept a piece of cake from a child. A circus clown will take popcorn from the ringmaster. A rodeo will gladly take a corn dog from a passerby. Scares though their behavior is strange but they do like to be given candy at least, but meat they prefer to hunt themselves.
Kinds that don't like hand feeding.
Mimes, railroads, hobos. Despite being native human settlements these types of clowns don't typically take handouts from humans. And Mime's far more comfortable swiping a coffee and a croissant from a table then taking it from a person's hands. Well the railroad is likely to just look at you if you offer them a can of beans if you leave one out with a can opener it'll gladly take it. Though granted hobos are the most willing to take stuff from people they prefer digging in bins. To imitate this behavior give them a box that you put stuff for them in.

If your parents are living in an area with a lot of wild clowns, chances are someone put this up for them to play with!
However, this could also be someone trying to signal to their lost clown where home is by using familiar colors and balloons (clowns can easily distinguish between different types and brands of balloons from afar)
If the balloons were put up by clowns then they could be a signifier to other wild clowns that a troupe has already claimed this area (which generally isn’t a problem for people so long as the clowns get enough space). This isn’t an aggressive behavior either, clown troupes almost always respect eachother’s space without conflict unless their area is being taken (usually by humans, sadly)
I saw this while driving home from my parents. Is this something I should be worried about?

Scare plush mixes are super sweet!! I had one as a kid. They still require lots of meat, all scare mixes do, and ofc plush mixes require lots of physical affection
Best of luck!!!
Scare clown advice
I’ve been honestly kind of obsessed with scare clowns ever since a troupe of them appeared in a park nearby to where I live. It was all over the news because we don’t really get many large clowns in my area as I live in a city. I’m pretty sure they were escaped pets because scare clowns went locally extinct in the wild in my country in the 1600’s. Don’t worry they were captured by animal control and sent to loving homes. Anyway back to the point. I’ve been fascinated by scare clowns for years but I’ve never looked after one. My family did have a hobo clown when I was a child so I’m not a complete move though. I’m currently living in a townhouse with a medium sized garden and I work from home for context. If anybody could suggest some scare clown subtypes/breeds which would be more approachable to someone in my situation I would be very thankful.

Guys, I need some advice.
I was just on my way home from work, and I saw a box left next to a dumpster, and it seemed to be moving, right?
I looked inside and there was a single clown pup, looking extremely underfed. It’s makeup was smudged and faded, its hair didn’t look glossy, and it could barely even laugh at me. My heart’s breaking for it.
Could I have help properly identifying what kind of clown it is so I can take proper care of it? It looks kind of like a party clown, but it might be a party/scary mix.
Any suggested caretips would be appreciated as well. And no, before you ask, I don’t have any reputable sanctuaries nearby. I’m pretty sure the only one close puts down healthy clowns and uses them for clown meat.

Dont forget, scare clowns love to chase!
I think its really important that people remember that Scary clowns and Evil clowns both really love chasing. These are typeically very high energy breeds and its helpful for a caretaker/ringleader to allow their scare and evil clowns to play pranks and hide to jump out at you. But if you are the type of person that is gone a lot during the day or live in an apartment, your scare clown will start to get zoomies and really want to chase.
If you find yourself feeling the need to run because a loose scary clown is well, scaring you, I would highly reccommend just standing very still and turn away or even better, start dancing to distract them. If you stand still and stare at them after a little while they take that as an invitation to start running at you. Often injuries occur when people start running when a scary clown is chasing them and they dont start dancing. Or if they try to evade and don't stay in place and only move to avoid colliding. Scare clowns and some evil clowns can move very fast and have pretty sturdy heads and bodies that allow them to collide into things without hurting the, but getting your head butted by a scare clown at full speed can put you in the hospital. When you stop and dance that usually gets them to run around you versus right into you.

Apparently, because I live in the same universe as Coraline or something, there is a tiny little door in my wall that I thought didn’t open but apparently it does because Sequins and Pharmaceuticals got in there
The Other Mother, or whatever lives in my walls ig, because yep! that’s where the door opens to! didn’t steal my precious babies thankfully
Who. The hell. Has little doors in their big ass house that opens into the walls???? This isn’t like, servants passages or anything either. Tiny crawl spaces. In. My. Walls.
On the bright side, Sequins and Pharmaceuticals are safe and sound
I Can Not Find Sequins or Pharmaceuticals
Anyone know where a clown and a cat would hide??

Baiting them didn’t work (I think?) but I hear something somewhere. It’s usually at doorways, or in one of the lower halls
Can’t pin it down though, probably because this house has way too many rooms
Wish me luck

Sequins met Romeo today!!
The two had a lot of fun sighing dramatically in window sills and Sequins showed off the hand stands they recently got the hang of
They’re a bit closer in age (~1 & 2.5 y/o) vs with Spring (~1 & 5 y/o), so they both got along really well, and we’ll have to meet up often
