Show opening- "Timbre" featuring works by Liz Lane
Four Seasons Gallery will host an art opening for Liz Lane, Birmingham artist, Thursday, June 19th from 5 PM- 8 PM. Enjoy live music, art, a painting give-away, wine and hors d'oeuvres. The event is free and open to the public.
Native to Alabama, Lane had a very artistic upbringing. Her mother, Lorrie Lane, is a full-time impressionist-realist painter, and her father, Alan Lane, is a Chemical Engineer by day but a blues musician by night. While Lane struggled with Dyslexia, a learning disability, creativity was a solace.
Lane graduated from the University of Alabama in 2011, majoring in fashion design. She worked in New York at Ellen Tracy Dresses for a summer, but decided the south was home. Married in 2012, she and her husband moved to Birmingham where her career in art would begin.
Working at Four Seasons Gallery, she was inspired to try painting. She switched from designing clothing to “designing art” and found painting to be much more fulfilling.
Lane has been painting for a little over a year and feels a calling to continue creating. She uses the same principles that she used in designing textiles and clothing; keeping use of color, tone, and line at the forefront of her work. She often uses interior designs as inspiration for color and shape, pulling abstract elements from a space. Lane hopes that her pieces do not linger on the wall, but create a constant conversation with the viewer.
She also does fashion and event illustrations on paper using gouache. Lane is also working on an illustrated children’s book about dyslexia.
Four Seasons Gallery is located in Downtown Homewood open Monday- Saturday, 9:30 AM- 5:30 PM and Sundays from 12 PM- 3 PM. The gallery represents over 40 local artists and also carries carefully picked home décor and florals.

EXPRESSIONS OF HOPE   //  05/08/14   //   5 PM- 7 PM    //   FOUR SEASONS GALLERY
Four Seasons Gallery is hosting an art opening for Birmingham artist, Wellon Bridgers, Thursday, May 8th, from 5-7 PM. Her acrylic abstracts are both symbolic and beautiful. She will have many never-before seen works for sale and view during her show. The event is free and open to the public. Bridgers uses her sales to help fund the adoption of her two twins, currently in the Congo.
Bridgers’ journey as an artist has evolved quickly. After finishing graduate school, she and her husband wanted to make creative but inexpensive Christmas gifts. It turned out her husband made a better critic than artist, but Wellon had stumbled into her career as an artist. She says she has always been a creative person and grew up surrounded by color, balance and creative thinking. Her mother, Em Lee, is a talented decorator known for her interior design work in Birmingham. Bridgers said she and her brother “both begrudgingly tagged along to fabric and antiques stores growing up,” but their mother “has had a profound influence on both of our love for design.”
Not only is her mother’s perspective shown through her work, but her twins have become symbols in her paintings.  “Most recently, the pair of circles that appear in some of my paintings represent my twins in Congo, Oliver and Hughes.” Wellon and her husband have been working tirelessly to bring them home for the past three years. The adoption process in the Democratic Republic of Congo has been shut down since last September and families including the Bridgers have been pressuring the U.S. State Department to become involved. Wellon’s paintings have become a wonderful means to be able to adopt the boys, and she looks forward to her “artwork continuing to aid in the world of adoption in the future.”
While Wellon is on the front lines of adoption, she also has twins at home, Chloe and Fitz, four. They understand that “no one touches momma’s paint,” but on days when the family has more time, they have the opportunity to experiment. One experiment actually led Wellon to a successful series, Libéré of watercolor-like abstracts.
One large influence in Wellon’s work is her faith. She is “inspired by the amazing and awe-inspiring Creator’s hand all around us--- from a horizon line to the lines of a horse; from the world of color soft and vibrant to the subtle movement and stance of a person.” Her goal is for people viewing her art to see a resemblance to the beauty and sometimes solemnity of creation. One way she accomplishes this resemblance is through symbolism. She values symbols for their meaning and believes they create depth. She also uses color symbolically, “such as a contrast of lonely and difficult darkness against hopeful and sure light.”
Born and raised in Birmingham, Wellon plans to always live in Birmingham. “Yes!” is my most resounding and enthusiastic answer: YES I plan always to live in Alabama.” Wellon has tried out other places, such as North Carolina, a “frigid” year in Chicago, and several years in Tuscaloosa, but nothing has felt like home as much as Birmingham. She and her husband are grateful that they could come back to Birmingham and for the wonderful community.
