FAQ - Fourth World 2026 Calendar
Hello all! Now that applications are open and people are deciding if they'd like to join, we need a place to answer questions and share useful info.
We'll update this post as we go, and there are some details I'd like to get group input on once our contributors are together. So check back here throughout the project, and feel free to DM the mods or ask questions in Discord at any time.
General Questions
What size will the calendar be?
This will be a standard 8.5 x 11 inch hanging wall calendar, which means the art is letter size, and the calendar hangs open at 17 inches tall.
What dates will be on the calendar?
This is something we'd like to discuss with the creative team once assembled. We have some fun ideas, so TBD on this.
What happens if an artist drops out?
If a primary artist can't complete their piece, we will look to our pinch hitter list to fill the gap. We may also reach out to applicants who didn't make it into the project.
Will there be a digital version of the calendar?
Yes, we will make a PDF available for a limited time after sales close.
What merch will be offered?
We will have a few sticker designs available.
Where will excess profits go?
Any revenue after manufacturing and shipping is planned to go to the Jack Kirby Museum Collections digital archive. However, once we have our creative team assembled, we'll put it to the group to see if there's a strong preference for a different organization.
Contributor Questions
Why are you only accepting artists?
Unfortunately, a wall calendar doesn't have a lot of opportunity for writers. While this does mean a large segment of the fandom can't participate, keeping the project limited in scope is a way for mods to gain experience while ensuring a quality product is delivered in the end. It's a proving ground for doing bigger zine-type endeavors in the future that will have more room for different kinds of creativity.
Can applicants sign up as both primary and secondary artists?
Yes! If you are accepted for both but only want to do one or the other, we can work with you on that.
Why is the art submission deadline so early?
The July 31 deadline is very early relative to 2026 for a few reasons. 1. We want to have time to enlist pinch hitters if needed. 2. Mods need time to organize and put in printing and manufacturing orders. 3. We need to not only receive, but package and ship calendars with enough time that they'll arrive to you before 2025 is over. Some international shipping takes about a month!
How will prompts for primary artists work?
Artists will be given characters and months, but the concept for the art is up to them. It could be a fun idea to theme months based on holidays or season, but that isn't a requirement. We will have a concept check-in early on to ensure there is enough variety.
Can contributors post their WIPs? How about their finished pieces?
Works in progress can be posted in the early stages, or as teaser previews that reveal only a small portion of the full thing. If in doubt, artists should ask mods.
Finished art can be posted after sales close.
Will contributors need to purchase the calendar?
Primary artists will receive a complimentary calendar. This is our way of thanking you for putting in your creative energies and efforts, and making this project possible. These artists can purchase stickers at cost.
Merch artists will receive a complimentary set of all stickers, and can purchase the calendar at cost.
TBD for shipping costs as we won't have an estimate on that for some time.

Edit: post is written, just waiting for mod approval before posting.

Calendar Applications Are Open!
Applications close May 19th
Hello and welcome! This application is for the 2026 Fourth World Calendar, a simple zine-like project created by fans of the New Gods. We're looking for up to 12 primary artists to each contribute an 8.5 x 11 inch work of art featured for a calendar month. We're also looking for optional secondary artists for smaller needs like graphics or merch.聽
All artwork should be new (ie not published elsewhere), should not use generative AI, and should not be traced. This is a general audience project, so no 18+ pieces please. Artwork that directly depicts a ship should be kept to what's in comics canon.
As this project has a set number of major pieces, it isn't an open project. This means your example works will be reviewed for quality, style and completeness. That said, we know that everyone is at different skill levels and will review accordingly, so if you're interested in getting involved definitely apply! We will contact all applicants to let you know our decision.
All dates for contributors are during 2025 so that we can get the calendar assembled, printed and shipped well before 2026 arrives.聽Once the application phase closes, tasks will be assigned at the end of May via your preferred method of communication, and artwork will be due at the end of July.聽Since we must stick closely to a timeline, the end of July is a firm deadline. We also ask that you respond promptly to any official communications as they come out.
If you have questions, you can DM @upagainstthesunset or @ophanimgold. There is also an open answer question at the end of the form if you have other thoughts to share. And if you're curious about what's coming up next, the聽pinned post will always indicate where we are in the process. Thank you for checking out our application form, we look forward to hearing from you!聽

Fourth World 2026 Calendar - Interest Check
Hello all! You may have already heard murmurings about a calendar project, and I鈥檓 pleased to announce that we鈥檙e getting it off the ground! But first we need to gather a bit more information, so here鈥檚 our official interest check. No obligation to join, but if this seems like something you might be into, let us know!
The interest check is open through April 25th
A little extra info
The calendar will be a standard hanging wall calendar with art on the top flap and a date grid on the bottom flap.聽
As this is a calendar for 2026 and the project is quite small, we are only looking for artist contributors who will be available to work on pieces from late May through July so that we can get these printed and shipped well before 2025 ends.
Look for the official contributor application in early to mid May!
--
EDIT: Interest check is now closed. Look for the application soon!

Project Mods:
@upagainstthesunset - Hi I'm Kate! I鈥檝e only picked up comics in the last few years, but didn鈥檛 take long to become totally into New Gods. This calendar project is my first foray into putting together a fan project in a long time, so I鈥檓 looking forward to it. Btw my favorite character is Metron!
@ophanimgold - Hi I'm Maya! A character artist and designer! I'm helping out my dear friend Kate with this unique project and hope that you can enjoy it too! (My favorite Fourth world characters are Orion and Metron too)
