I posted this fic on AO3!
Eye Colors
I was watching @myrseyy‘s stream and this idea struck me after they drew a certain piece. So many kagehinas really inspired me to go along with it, please go take a look ;; kagehina heaven ;;
Summary: Shouyou never stopped to think how pretty Kageyama’s eyes are, until now.
********                          ********
Spending Sunday evenings with Kageyama is fun.
They sometimes go to that good bakery Shouyou knows well, or race to the pet shop (Kageyama always denies that he actually likes going there), and of course most of the time they play volleyball in the park, followed by laying in the grass after their bodies beg them for a rest.
Thanks to all those evenings not only Shouyou’s skills, but also their relationship as a whole is… kind of better.

This fic is on AO3 now!!
Kiss
A few days ago I was sharing cute kagehina headcanons with @todoyamas, and she told me the cutest one i have ever heard so i couldn’t resist.
This is for you Rina! You’re a great friend!
Summary: Tobio doesn’t like rainy days, but maybe Hinata can help with that.
********                          ********
Tobio looks through the window of Hinata’s room. Telling by the grey clouds and wind, it seems that the rain won’t stop anytime soon. It hasn’t stopped since he left his house, and the hope that maybe they could practice a little in Hinata’s backyard diminishes every second.
He pouts at the view.

You can find this fic on AO3 now!!
Morning
Pairing: Kagehina Summary: Shouyou can’t wait for Tobio to get home.
Note: Hey guys! Sorry for the radio silence. We know we asked for requests a while ago, and we’re working on them, but… life is being a little hard on both of us… so please have this ficlet while you wait. I’ll post another one sometime soon too. Thank you for sticking with us!
********                          ********
“How long ‘till you make it home?” Shouyou mumbles, hoping his words make sense out loud.
It’s almost 3am, but Shouyou wants to be awake when Tobio finally gets home. He’s been out of town at a training camp for almost 2 weeks, and adding the weeks where Shouyou was gone for his matches, it’s been almost a month since they last saw each other. And Shouyou misses Tobio so fucking much.
“Mmh, I think a couple more hours, we’re still on the highway.” Tobio’s voice is calm and soothing, which means he’s probably on the verge of sleep too, and that only makes Shouyou want him even more.

Thi is now on AO3!
Final Quest
Pairing: Kageyma Tobio/Hinata Shouyou
Summary: Everyone knows the risks of engaging in battle, what can be won, what can lost, it’s part of the job. Kageyama knows this too. He doesn’t give a fuck.
Notes: I saw this art by Cass on twitter ( @craziiwolf ) and inspiration hit me like a truck… so have some angst (I guess?) AND PLEASE LOOK AT CASS WORK CUZ IT’S ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS. I should add a trigger warning for blood and violence, just in case.
********                          ********
The demon beast roars, directing one of its tails toward Kageyama at an incredible speed. He tries to evade it but there’s no use, he gets pushed against a rock with amazing strength.
Kageyama swears he hears Hinata say something, but his head throbs and ears ring. Trying to stand up, he’s barely able to catch glimpses of what’s happening. Hinata cuts the tail trying to attack him again, and at the same time evades another blow from the creature’s hands.
Kageyama’s body gives up, and he stumbles down. He feels something warm sliding over his forehead. Blaming himself for not reacting fast enough, he moves his aching arms below him and pushes himself up.
A scream makes him look up in a hurry. The beast’s claws are covered in red and Hinata is lying on the ground, hands pressing against his bloody middle.
Fear is soon replaced with madness, and all of Kageyama’s pain disappears. He stands despite the weakness he feels, rushing towards the monster and taking the first weapon he sees; Hinata’s sword. Screaming, he pounces toward the beast’s back, slicing skin, muscle, and who knows what else, as it screeches. It falls in front of Kageyama, in a puddle of its own blood.
Kageyama breathes heavily, releasing the sword as it suddenly weighs too much for him to bear.
A weak groan reminds him of Hinata’s state, and fear takes over Kageyama again.

Relationship: Hinata Shouyou/Kageyama Tobio
Tags: Aged-up characters, Parenthood, Future fic
Words: ~4.300
Summary: Shouyou plans a secret vacation to spend quility time with their recently adopted son. The problem is how is he going to convince Tobio to go without spoiling the surprise?
Notes: Heyo guys! Here’s a fic I had in drafts for a looong time. Hope the final result is good and you like it!
The smell of scrambled eggs fills the fresh morning air. Shouyou adds a bit of salt to the sizzling food, and seconds later he hears shy little steps behind him. Turning around, Shouyou sees a small boy standing behind the kitchen table drowsily rubbing one of his eyes.
“Souta! Did you have a good night?” Shouyou asks, smiling at him.
“Yes… are you making eggs?” Souta gets closer, looking curiously at the top of the stove.
“Yep! But if you want I can give you cereal.”
Returning to the eggs, Shouyou realizes they’re just about done, so he takes the spatula and plates them.
“No, I like eggs.” Souta walks to the table, but stops as he realizes someone is missing. “Where’s dad?”
Shouyou’s heart jumps in his chest. He really loves how that sounds.
“He should be in the bathroom. Go and tell him breakfast is ready, okay?” Hinata opens a cabinet to his left and takes out a cereal box. Even if Souta said he wants eggs, a bit of cereal won’t be a bad addition.
The little steps move away, leaving an indescribable feeling inside of Shouyou’s chest, even after a month since Souta came home with him for good.
Winning custody had been such a hard task, but by taking advantage of a loophole he was able to adopt him despite the partnership certificate. He’ll be eternally grateful to the social worker who told him he could still raise a child.
“Daddy said breakfast is ready.” Souta’s voice comes from the hallway.
Just as Shouyou sits at the table, bowl of cereal already resting alongside Souta’s eggs, the 4 year old boy appears in the doorway, dragging Kageyama to the table, toothbrush still in his mouth.
At least he’s dressed, Shouyou thinks to himself.
Souta releases his grip on Tobio’s hand and jumps into his seat, looking at the food in front of him with big brown eyes.
“I can have eggs and cereal?” He asks excitedly, grabbing a spoon.
“Yeah, why not?” Shouyou smiles at Souta, and then smirks in Tobio’s direction “Good to know you could join us, and dressed this time!”
Tobio narrows his eyes, but rolls them shortly after, turning around to finish brushing his teeth in the kitchen sink while Shouyou asks Souta what he would like to do that day.
Shouyou is glad Souta is warming up to them. The social worker had explained the problems with his biological parents to him, but despite her warnings, he’s more than happy to be involved with him; and he knows Tobio is too, even if he isn’t sure how to react to Souta’s actions yet.
Glancing towards the wall-clock Tobio wipes his face and sits at the table, eating his food as fast as he can.
“Someone is late,” Shouyou teases, eyeing him. “Souta, remember not to be like your dad in the future.”
“Shut up,” Tobio mutters between bites and whacks Shouyou’s forehead. “If that’s the case then he can’t be like you either. I saw you falling off the couch because you were too lazy to stand up to get the TV remote.”
“Shut up! At least I don’t forget to wash my sweaty clothes!” He complains, poking him in the ribs .
A quarrel involving stories from the past makes Souta giggle; a sound that helps  to remind them of their current role as parents. They stop, returning to their food with smiles on their faces.
“I should get going.” Tobio swallows the last bite of his breakfast and stands up, taking the plates and placing them in the sink. He disappears into the corridor and reappears soon after with a gym bag on his shoulder. “See you later, Shou.” He leans down and kisses Shouyou on the forehead, then crouches at Souta’s side and raises a fist.
Slowly, the little kid makes a fist with his own hand and bumps Tobio’s, smiling shyly.
“See you later, Souta,” he says, smiling and standing up while ruffling his hair.
Seconds later the front door opens and closes, leaving the house in silence, which Shouyou doesn’t let stay for long.
“What do you think about going out today? We shouldn’t waste a sunny day inside.” Shouyou stands, cleaning the table now that everyone finished eating.
Being free from his coaching duties today, Shouyou decided to make the most of it. Between work and Souta starting kindergarten, they haven’t had a full day only for them. If only Tobio had asked for the day off…
“Can we go to the park? That one with the big giraffe,” Souta asks, arms extending to show how big the giraffe is.
“Of course! We just need to dress you up and we’re ready!” Shouyou says excited, and the excitement only grows seeing the happiness on his son’s face.
That afternoon, when they’re coming back from lunch after going to the park and a game center, Shouyou sees an interesting poster in the grocery shop they stop by. A new hot springs opened near Miyagi and they’re making a promotion if people reserve in advance.
“Hey buddy, want to go on a trip?” Shouyou raises his head to look at the child on his shoulders, who grips his hair and looks back with wide eyes.
“What kind of trip?”
“We’ll surprise your dad, so you’ll have to keep a secret for a little while.”
Shouyou tells his idea to Souta, reminding him to keep it only between the two of them. Souta smiles, pinky promising he won’t say anything.
The hot springs seem like a perfect way to spend quality time with their son, now the only problem will be convincing Tobio of coming along.

Stay Close To Me
After 12739812730 years, we finally filled our first request! Sorry for the wait, life happens a lot sometimes, but here it is :) The prompt was requested by an anon with the line “I won’t let anything bad happen to you.” Enjoy!
********                          ********
Halloween is one of Hinata’s favorite holidays, being surpassed only by Christmas with its presents and good food. He usually spends it dressed in silly costumes with Natsu, going to the small parade near their house where they get to see silly looking monsters in zip up suits and kids eating fistfulls of candy while their parents aren’t looking.
This year though, it’s a bit different. Sugawara had told the team that he, Asahi, and Daichi would be working in a haunted maze and invited them all to go. Without hesitation he accepted, excited to see his old teammates again.
It wasn’t a surprise for him that Tanaka and Noya were immediately down for it, and even if it took more work to convince Kageyama, he was happy with the way things were going.
How scary could a maze be anyways?

Hey, could you please do more kags family headcanons??? I really like the idea of his father being a pro athlete :3
Hi hi! We would love to add more headcanons, but honestly... that was something we created out of the blue, and for now we don’t have any more ideas to expand that HC. In the case we come up with more, we’ll definitely make a new post, because we also want more content that includes his family!Thank you for your interest! <3<3<3

It wasn’t a surprise for him that Tanaka and Noya were immediately down for it, and even if it took more work to convince Kageyama, he was happy with the way things were going.
How scary could a maze be anyways?
---
Looking at the big sign announcing the entrance to the carnival, Hinata realizes that at night and with real costumes and make up, a corn maze can in fact look pretty scary.
The sun was barely setting when they arrived, taking away from the atmosphere of the area. In the orange light the walls were just hastily painted particle board, the characters were just people in cheap grease makeup, and the corn was, well, just corn, with bits of light peeking out between the closely grown stalks. It felt campy and fun, and all around them was laughter and camera flashes as people took pictures with the characters patrolling around.
Kageyama, however, was tense by Hinata’s side, and it only grew worse as that last bit of sunlight disappeared and the dim area lights were switched on, suddenly making everything seem just a bit more real.
“Well, we’ve got the House of Horrors or Circus Creepshow. Which one do you guys wanna hit first?” Tanaka asks, reading a flyer and pointing toward the entrances to both mazes.
“Which do you think everyone is working in?” Noya stands on his tiptoes and peers over toward the Creepshow entrance, as if he could see over the corn and pinpoint one of his senpai.
“Guess we gotta do both to find out!” Hinata grabs Kageyama’s arm and marches toward one of the lines, surprised at the fact that he doesn’t automatically pull away like usual. It must be his nerves, because Hinata can feel him slightly trembling beneath his grasp. He smiles mischievously to himself, hoping to get some good pranks in on scaredy cat Kageyama later.
The line for the House of Horrors is shorter, so they start there. While they wait in line the boys talk and laugh with each other, deflecting the anticipation of being scared with humor and false bravery, but Kageyama remains quiet save for a few grunts and one word responses. Hinata notices him nervously watching one of the characters, a clown with tattered clothes and sharp yellowed teeth, who walks up and down the line, sometimes stopping and whispering in people’s ears, making them scream and hide behind their friends. As the clown draws near them they reach the front of the line, and Kageyama lets out an audible sigh of relief as the group is shepherded into the corn and away from the clown.
The relief doesn’t last long, though. All four boys go rigid as they see the stretch of corn before them like unmarked walls. The noise from the crowd behind them seems to disappear, and they are alone in the dark with nowhere to go but forward.
“Let’s go!” Noya says, with much less excitement than usual as he begins to walk forward. The others follow, and Hinata feels Kageyama reach forward and grab his arm.
“Ow!” He hisses, and Kageyama loosens his grip but doesn’t let go.
“Sorry. Just don’t wanna get lost,” he whispers.
The corn stretches on for what feels like too long, making a voice whisper in the back of Hinata’s mind telling him that they took a wrong turn somewhere and now they’re really lost, miles away from the carnival and the safety of actors dressed as monsters. Out here it feels like real monsters could slip right in and never be found out.
After another turn, they come to a stop. A house sits before them, completely surrounded by corn so they can’t slip past, with the windows boarded up and the door slightly open.
“Looks like a nice little place,” Tanaka says, trying to hide the waver in his voice. “Go on in, you two.”
“What? You go first!” Hinata argues, taking a step back and bumping into Kageyama. “You’re the senpai!”
“That’s why we go behind. Like security.”
Hinata opens his mouth to argue back but freezes as something moves past a gap in the boards on one of the windows. Kageyama’s grasp tightens on his arm, but he doesn’t say anything.
“This is stupid,” Kageyama growls, “I want to go back.”
His words suddenly fill Hinata with a false courage, turning this back into something fun. If Kageyama is afraid then he can be the brave one, and everything will seem less scary.
“Oh? I didn’t expect you to be scared by this kind of thing,” Hinata says, wiggling his eyebrows and laughing as Kageyama glares at him.
“Fine, fine, we’ll go ahead,” Noya says, patting Kageyama on the shoulder. “Anything for our poor, scared, little kouhai.”
Kageyama doesn’t protest, just glares more in Noya’s direction, the expression falling immediately as he and Tanaka pull open the door and slip into the house. They watch their shapes move quickly past the window and disappear. A few seconds of silence pass, and Hinata opens his mouth to speak.
“We should probably he-,”
He’s interrupted by a scream deep inside the house, his heart crawling into his throat.
“That’s them! We have to go in!” He tries to run forward but Kageyama pulls back on his arm.
“What? No! We can’t go in there! What if something got them?”
“Then we have to help them! Come on, Kageyama!”
Squeezing his eye shut and shaking his head Kageyama allows Hinata to lead him into the house, his fingers digging into his arm so harshly it makes him clench his jaw. The house is dim inside, the furniture dusty and dirty, like someone had vanished from it years ago in the middle of daily life. Hinata sees the back door open just through the kitchen, but as they turn the corner the dining room becomes visible, stopping Hinata in his tracks. The table is littered with body parts, all strewn haphazardly across plates and in bowls, dripping blood onto the floor with heavy splats.
“Oh god,” Kageyama whispers, putting a hand to his mouth. “Keep going, just keep going, please.”
“Okay, okay,” Hinata nods, tearing his eyes away from the scene and shuffling forward, but before they can reach the door a man in bloodstained clothes pops out from the hallway, brandishing a rusty saw, just as messy and dripping as the table.
“Nice of you boys to join me for dinner,” the man smiles, walking towards them, “why don’t you have a SEAT!” On the last word he lunges forward, and Kageyama screams. Suddenly his grip is gone from Hinata’s arm, and he doesn’t know where to turn between the man laughing maniacally in front of him and his friend sprinting out the back door.
“Sorry, we ate before coming!” Hinata yells, turning on his heels and running after Kageyama. He figures he must have met up with Tanaka and Noya somewhere up ahead, but when he finds Kageyama squatting with his head in his hands, their senpai are nowhere to be found.
Hinata kneels down beside him, holding a hand to his chest to feel his own racing heart. “That guy really got me,” he says, smiling now that the threat is gone and he can just feel his adrenaline pumping. “Let’s keep going and see what’s next!”
Kageyama just shakes his head, refusing to stand or look at Hinata. “Go ahead. I’ll stay here.”
“You can’t get to the end if you just stay still,” Hinata laughs, standing and reaching for Kageyama’s arm to pull him up.
“Then I won’t. I’ll wait until morning when the sun is out and all the people are gone.”
Hinata puts a hand to his mouth to stop his laughter from escaping. He doesn’t want Kageyama to murder him and leave him here in the corn for the monsters to feed on. “Fine, stay here all alone then,” he says, putting a lilt to his words to make them playful. “All night all by yourself. I’m sure you’ll be just fine.”
He starts to move away but Kageyama still doesn’t move, curling tighter in on himself. If that didn’t work, Hinata figures he’ll have to pull out the big guns.
“I guess you’ll have to miss volleyball practice in the morning. Since you’ll be wandering through corn instead.” He expects Kageyama’s head to snap up, but he doesn’t act as if he heard Hinata at all.
Something must be seriously wrong, so Hinata returns to his side.
“Kageyama? Are you alright?”
Still no answer.
Hinata kneels now, concerned by this odd behavior and forgetting everything about monsters and murders. He hears Kageyama’s breath coming out raspy and sniffling.
“Are you… crying?” he asks, all playful tone gone. He moves and places himself in front of Kageyama, leaning down and trying to see his face. Maybe he was one of those people that cried when scared.
“No,” he finally says. Even with his voice muffled by his hands that small word is enough for Hinata to know that if he wasn’t already, he was close to tears.
Hinata tilts his head in surprise. He never expected Kageyama to be scared of this sort of stuff, but just like he feared snakes with all his being, Kageyama’s fear… isn’t all that strange.
“It’s okay if you’re scared y’know? But… why didn’t you say so before? You could have waited with Yachi and Yamaguchi outside,” Hinata says, voice calm as if he were talking to Natsu.
“And hang around with that ugly ass clown? No, thanks.”
Hinata holds in a giggle, not wanting Kageyama to shut down again. “Well, we have to get out of here sometime or more creepy dudes will come to scare us off.” Hesitating a little before reaching out his hand, he takes one of Kageyama’s arms and gently tries to pull it away from his face.
He doesn’t budge.
Pouting a little, Hinata thinks on his next move. At least Kageyama's breathing is even now.
“Hey, I won’t let anything bad happen to you. Trust me, just like I do when you toss!” Hinata smiles to himself. This is so weird; not bad weird, he feels like warm jelly inside, but it’s weird nevertheless.
Kageyama looks up, his eyes are glazed over and his nose is red, but he remains calm as he holds Hinata’s stare. He’s so defenseless, a completely different Kageyama than the one he’s used to see when playing volleyball.
“Here.” Hinata holds out his hands to Kageyama. “Natsu takes my hand when she’s scared, so…” he lets the words linger, hoping Kageyama won’t be weirded out by the suggestion.
“Are you fine with that?” Kageyama’s voice regains some normalcy, but the lump in his throat can still be heard.
“Yeah, as long as you want.” Hinata smiles warmly, cheeks a bit warm.
When Kageyama takes his hand Hinata feels like a million butterflies broke their cocoons inside his stomach at the same time. His hand is smaller than Kageyama’s, a little colder too now that it’s surrounded by it, but it feels so nice.
“A-Alright, let’s get going.”
Both stand and continue their way through the maze, creepy sounds louder with each step they take. Hinata walks a little ahead of Kageyama in case something jumps out, but near enough so their hands don’t get separated.
A laugh almost resembling a shriek comes from some kind of construction in the distance, and Kageyama’s hand squeezes Hinata’s, his body approaching so close Hinata can hear Kageyama's breath quicken.
“I’m sure it’s only a recording,” Hinata comments, calming both Kageyama and himself. His heart beats a mile per hour, spurred both by the uncertainty of what’s ahead and Kageyama’s closeness.
The shriek sounds again as they continue, getting louder and louder until they find the source: a long metal trailer with a door hanging off its hinges. The shriek stops as they approach the door, and Hinata gives Kageyama’s hand a reassuring squeeze.
“Ready?” He asks, and Kageyama gulps before nodding.
As they step inside, Hinata’s heart jumps into his throat, but he tries his best to swallow it down, he needs to show Kageyama he really can count on him. The trailer is pitch dark, even the dim glow of the lights outside streaming in through the broken door failing to cut through the darkness. They continue forward slowly, trying to ignore the growing tension as nothing pops out of any corners and no noise breaks the silence as they feel their way through the area..
Hinata sees a stream of light ahead coming from what seems to be the only exit, a skylight above a bathroom sink. He feels a little disappointed that the room wasn’t scarier, but pushes the thought away as he feels Kageyama breathe a sigh of relief beside him.
“I guess we’re supposed to climb out through here?” Hinata says, looking up and seeing the starry sky above them. “You can boost me onto the counter and then I’ll help pull you-,”
“Only one of you can make it out of here.”
Hinata’s blood goes cold, hot breath accompanying the words as something materializes from the darkness and whispers in his ear. He turns, seeing only a shape and a glint of something silver in their hand, and his stomach lurches.
“GO, KAGEYAMA, GO!” He screams, tugging on Kageyama’s hand and shoving him at the bathroom counter.
“But you’ll-,” Kageyama protests, eyes wide and reflecting stars like twinkles of fear.
“I’LL BE FINE, JUST GO!”
Kageyama let’s go of his hand and climbs onto the counter, easily pulling himself out of the skylight above. Hinata scrambles after him, feeling hot breath across the back of his neck as he climbs onto the counter with less ease than Kageyama and grabs onto the rim of the skylight. He hops, grabbing onto the roof but only managing to pull himself out up to his shoulders, legs dangling in the trailer beneath him.
Kageyama grabs onto his arms, pulling him up and onto the roof of the trailer. He barely has a moment to catch his breath before the shrieking sound returns and they both bolt down the stairs on the opposite side of the trailer and back into a stretch of plain corn-lined path.
Hinata pauses to catch his breath, but Kageyama grabs his hand again and tugs him forward. “Don’t stop, let’s just keep running. Don’t look back.”
Kageyama’s eyes are wide, pleading, and Hinata nods. “Alright. Let’s go.”
Hinata takes the lead and starts to run, pulling Kageyama behind him. They don’t stop, bursting through the door of each construction in the path and rushing past monsters and murderers who barely get out half of their dialogue before the boys are out the back door and onto the next area.
After what feels like hours, their lungs burning and legs pleading for them to stop, they come to a large wrought iron gate. Beyond it, past more corn, they can see the carnival full of laughing people eating candy corn and skirting away from patrolling monsters; their salvation.
“The exit is right up there,” Kageyama says, panting. “Why is this gate here?”
“What if we took too long and,” Hinata pauses to breathe, “We got locked in?” He points to a thick metal chain holding the gate closed with a rusty metal lock.
Kageyama opens his mouth to reply, but is cut off by the metal jingle of keys as a shape emerges from the corn. The shape steps into the light, revealing a plague doctor’s mask beneath a long, thick black cloak. In one hand it carries a ring of keys, twirling them on one finger to taunt them, and in the other it drags a long metal axe across the dirt.
Kageyama’s face turns white and he ducks behind Hinata, trying to make himself small enough to hide behind the smaller boy. Hinata’s heart pounds in his chest so hard he can no longer tell if it’s from running or fear. His words repeat in his head as he tightens his grip on Kageyama’s hand. I won’t let anything bad happen to you. He’d meant what he said, and he wasn’t going to fail with the exit so near.
The plague doctor steps closer, painstakingly slow, his axe making a horrible scraping sound behind him. Hinata steels himself, holding his ground as the gap between them grows smaller and smaller. The plague doctor stops in front of him, leaning down to bring his beak closer and closer, and Hinata jumps to action, kicking hard up and between where he thinks the creature’s legs should be.
The plague doctor lets out a loud, very human, “oof” and buckles to the ground, gripping it’s cloak and bringing its knees to its chest. The keys fly in one direction, and the mask in the other, revealing a familiar face.
“Daichi-san?” Hinata and Kageyama yell in unison, dropping to their knees beside their former captain.
The corn rustles beside them and they jump to their feet, but another familiar face appears as Suga emerges with a plastic saw blade in one hand and a werewolf mask in the other.
“Oh god, guys, that’s the best thing I’ve seen all night,” he laughs, doubling over and clutching his stomach with the saw blade hand. “Take the keys and get out of here.”
“But Daichi-,”
“He’ll be fine,” Suga laughs again, putting down his props and kneeling beside Daichi to put a hand on his shoulder. “You guys should go before another group catches up. Seeing some kids killing the plague doctor and werewolf isn’t exactly good for our branding.”
They nod, and Hinata mumbles an apology to Daichi before grabbing the keys and letting them out of the maze.
Breathing deeply as he closes the gate, Hinata turns and looks at Kageyama staring back at him. Hinata can’t hold back his smile that quickly transform into a grin, and then he’s laughing. Kageyama snorts, forgetting everything about what they just escaped.
When Hinata’s breathing returns to normal, they finally move, starting to search for the others.
“I never thought I’d see you kicking Daichi in the balls,” Kageyama comments, lips showing the tiniest of smiles.
“Neither did I.” He snorts. “For my sake and, uh, Sawamura-san’s, I think it would be better if we didn’t tell the others about it thought,” Hinata says, sheepishly scratching the back of his head.
“Yeah. And, could you, uh, also not...not comment about, you know…”
As if on cue, a cry comes from the maze behind them, startling Kageyama and making him frown.
“That you’re a scaredy-cat?” Hinata grins, and evades Kageyama’s hands. “Of course, we have a deal.”
“Also… thank you.”
“Mh?”
“I appreciate you… helping me back there and not laughing.” Kageyama looks to the ground.
“You’re very much welcome.”
Kageyama opens his mouth to talk again, but immediately closes it as Tanaka and Nishinoya run to them, shouting questions about what happened in the haunted house and where they disappeared to.
Hinata tells them about the rusty saw man and the creepy trailer, but skirts around the parts where Kageyama got scared and Sawamura’s accident. Kageyama at his side doesn’t talk unless he’s asked directly, and seems relieved when Hinata finishes telling the story.
Tanaka and Noya also tell them about their experience when they join the others waiting for them, but Hinata can’t completely focus. He walks close enough to Kageyama that their hands brush once in a while, so he has to gather all his energy to stop himself from just taking it.
His cheeks feel warmer as he comes to a realization.
This crush has become a huge problem. I may like him more than I thought.
He glances at Kageyama, who is already looking at him, and immediately his eyes dart elsewhere, trying to focus on Yachi talking.
He’ll have to deal with that someday… but definitely not today.

“Hinata!” He yells, kneeling beside him and carefully resting his head on his lap. His abdomen is completely covered in blood, clothes soaked and sticking to his skin. “Shit, shit, shit.”
To his utter surprise, Hinata smiles. “You’re the one that ended up defeating it, eh?”
“Shut up, that’s not important now. I need to take you—“ Words die in his mouth when Hinata’s hand touches his cheek, smearing blood as it caresses the bruise forming there.
Tears start forming in his eyes when he talks. “We won’t make it…”
“No, no. We aren’t that far away.” Kageyama feels his own eyes covered in tears now.
Hinata tries to speak but coughs instead, blood coming out of his mouth and staining his face even more.
“Thank you, Kageyama. It was fun while it lasted.” His smile wavers, but doesn’t disappear. “I’m sorry for not making it to the top with you though…”
Kageyama covers Hinata’s hand with his own as it loses strength. Slowly, Hinata’s eyes close, and his face becomes emotionless for the first time since they’d met.
Holding Hinata’s hand close to his cheek, Kageyama cries. He never thought things would end like this; with Hinata dying in his arms without even knowing how much he meant to him.
He can’t die. Not like this.
Using the last of his force, Kageyama pulls Hinata towards him and stands up. He knows exactly what to do if it’s death he’s dealing with. He’ll bring Hinata back, no matter what.
As he runs, Kageyama feels Hinata’s breath vanishing, traces of a heartbeat disappearing with every second that passes. He presses his lips into a thin line, holding back tears and sobs for later. They still have a chance, if only he could run faster, if they hadn’t left their horses in the inn, if he hadn’t been knocked out, he could be safe.
He trips and loses his balance for a second, almost falling but regaining his stance at the last moment. His leg throbs, and every step feels like a knife is being pressed into his knee, but when the ruins of the demon king’s shrine come into view, nothing else matters.
They had found it years ago, at the beginning of their quest, and now it’s kind of strange coming back so near the end.
His legs give out meters away from a stone wall, the only remaining piece indicating the purpose of this place. Knees and arms hurting, he leaves Hinata on the ground. His face has lost most of its color and his breath is almost non existent. Holding Hinata’s hand, Kageyama looks up to the vanished drawings of a body, lines like waves coming from its sides.
“Oikawa! I want to make a deal!” He shouts, voice echoing in the empty place. Nothing happens. “Asshole, I know you can hear me...! Please...” His voice breaks and eyes get glossy as the hand in his feels cold. “Hinata can’t die yet… please… grand demon king.”
“It was so hard to call me by my title?” A teasing voice Kageyama knows well enough answers. He looks around, searching for him but finding nothing. “Oh my… what you have there? You didn’t take care of your partner, did you?” The voice gets closer, less ominous and more focused in one place.
“I want you to save him!”
There’s a ghostly figure in front of them, slowly taking the form of a semi transparent body. If Kageyama didn’t know that was only a projection of the demon king, he would shoot him with an arrow to try to erase the stupid smirk he’s wearing.
“Hm… what makes you think I can do it?”
“I know you have done it. So, please, save him… I’ll give you anything you want!” Gripping both of Hinata’s now he tries to spread some warmth to them.
“You don’t own anything valuable enough, my poor Tobio… not even your own life is worthy as it is, you’re a dying man too.”
Tobio’s gaze falls on Hinata. “There must be something.”
The silence that follows makes Kageyama think Oikawa left, but when he raises his eyes, the demon king is centimeters away from his face, making him  jolt back. His expression shows how funny he thinks this whole thing is.
“You really want to save him, right?”
“Yes,” he says, without hesitation.
“Then, there may be something…”
“Do it!”
“I haven’t told you the details yet--”
“I don’t care what happens to me!”
Oikawa’s smile changes into something more dangerous than the playfulness he addressed him with earlier, scary and intimidating.
“Suit yourself.” He touches Kageyama’s head and Hinata’s heart, a dark smoke coming from both places, and Tobio winces. “Don’t come crying to me when you find out what’s missing.”
Slowly, Tobio starts feeling short of breath; his surroundings become fuzzy, his body feeling weaker. Without noticing, he’s on the ground, vision reducing until there’s nothing left.
Despite being surrounded by darkness there’s a warm feeling within him, and somehow he figures Hinata is doing that. He always knew how to push him so he could be better, knew what to say so they could make a new friend or get a good quest from important people, knew what to do to make Kageyama feel at home. Hinata became Kageyama’s best friend, the best partner he could have wished for, the best person in his life that maybe he didn’t deserve. Hinata makes him feel warm, because he’s what Kageyama loves most in the world, and he regrets not telling him before engaging in battle. It could have changed so many things... but in reality, nothing at the same time.
When he regains control over his body everything feels different. He tries to stand but his arms… aren’t arms anymore.
An ugly squak leaves his mouth the moment he sees a pair of black wings moving where his arms should be. Everything also looks bigger than before, but maybe it’s because he’s smaller too.
A groan makes him look to the side where he sees Hinata moving, face back to his normal colors. Kageyama tries to walk but only manages to waddle awkwardly.
“Hinata!” He says, hopping onto his chest. “How are you?”
Hinata’s clothes are still bloody and torn, but he seems to be breathing normally.
“My head is killing me…” he moves his hand to his temple and covers his eyes.
Relief washes over his body, relaxing at the sight of Hinata alive. If all he’s missing is his human body he can live with that.
“Where am I?” Hinata asks, sitting and letting Tobio fall on his lap. “Woah, are you a crow?”
So that’s what Oikawa turned him into. “We’re in an old shrine, but that’s not important right now.”
“Oh! A talking crow! Are you a familiar?” Hinata asks, so curious and with such a kind smile it looks weird with all the dry blood on him.
“No? I’m Kageyama.”
“What a fitting name for a crow! So, then you are a magical crow? Are you going to guide me or something? ‘Cuz I don’t know how I got here…” He looks around completely confused and rubs his face, which makes him notice the blood. “How did I wound myself?”
“Hinata, don’t play dumb. I’m Kageyama, we have been traveling together for almost 2 years!” Tobio’s heart hammers in his chest.
“Hm? I have only been traveling with friends, and none of them have that name.”
A chill feeling runs down his spine, contrasting with the warmth he felt before, even his heart feels like it’s stopped working. Hinata’s eyes show so much honesty though, and the little frown on his face only adds to the terrifying truth.
“I…”
“Are you sure you aren’t confusing me with someone else?”
What’s missing are Hinata's memories… of him.
“You don’t remember a human archer named Kageyama that you meet in a bazaar? You chose to pick a fight with the wrong guys and he… helped.”
That must make him recall something, anything. It was the beginning of them as partners. It was the start of Kageyama feeling like he could trust someone. It was the best thing that happened to him.
“Uh, I don’t think so? To be honest, I always pick fights with not the best people to pick fights with…”
So it’s true…
Oikawa took his humanity and Hinata’s memories in exchange for bringing him back to life…
“So…” Hinata continues, oblivious to Kageyama’s discovery. “Will you help me find a village? I would like to--” he touches his waist and his eyes turn around, “My sword! No, no, no…!” Standing, he starts looking around, picking up every rock, every branch, turning over the destroyed pillars.
His chest feels heavier as he follows Hinata with his gaze. All the memories they shared together aren’t there for him, Hinata doesn’t even remember the fight that put him here, he’s just a stranger all over again. But he chose that. He doesn’t regret it.
As Hinata becomes more anxious and returns to look over the same places, Kageyama decides to help. Recalling how much it weighed after killing the demon creature, he figures where it is.
“I think it went back to its chamber,” Kageyama says to Hinata, who’s looking behind the same wall for the third time.
Hinata stops, and frowns. “Damn it. Seriously, what happened to me?”
Kageyama sighs and takes short steps, trying to adjust to his body. They don’t come out as shaky as the first ones, so he continues. “Long story. First, let’s meet your friends and then search for your stupid sword.”
“And you know where to find them?” Hinata gets closer and picks him up so both can be at the same eye level.
“Probably… it’ll be an easy quest.”
Hinata’s eyes sparkle and his smile returns, a sight worth the sacrifice.
“Our first quest together!” Hinata puts him on his shoulder and starts walking. “Then, lead the way, Kageyama!”
Despite looking the world with new eyes and feeling like a part of him is broken now that Hinata doesn’t remember him, seeing him alive and happy makes everything worth it. He would sacrifice himself again and again if it meant not losing the warmth that Hinata provides for the world.

Cat Sitter
Pairing: KageHina Summary: Animals love Hinata and they don’t really like Tobio, that’s the norm. Momo doesn’t agree with it.
Notes: Hey guys! Here’s a lil something while we sort out university. Again, we’re very sorry about not posting the request some of you sent, but we swear we’ll finish them... eventually... haha... (pls save us from college/university hell)
********                          ********
When he answers Hinata’s call, the last thing Tobio expects is to hear Natsu on the other side instead of her brother. More than that, he doesn’t understand all the yelling and crashing that comes along with her voice.
“Kageyama-kun, can you come?” Natsu asks, trying to sound calm but unable to completely hide the unease in her voice.
“Natsu? What happened?” Tobio puts aside his homework, not having made much progress since he started and figuring this is a reasonable excuse to do it later.
“I think my brother needs help—” A loud crash sounds behind her and Natsu sighs. “He took out the rope, I should go…”
She hangs up and leaves Tobio staring at empty space, completely confused. What kind of help Hinata does need? Why did he have to take out a rope?
He tries calling back a couple of times without answer before making up his mind and telling his mom he’s going to Hinata’s house.
It takes a while, but when he finally arrives Natsu is the one who opens the door. She smiles and pulls him in, saying he came just in time to help catch Momo.
“She escaped and now my brother is lying on the floor,” Natsu tries to explain, leading Kageyama to the living room and showing the complete mess Momo, whatever that is, and Hinata made.
The floor and furniture are covered in dirty paw prints, there’s petals and gray smudges all over the couch, and the pillows and magazines are scattered about the room. In the middle of everything is Hinata, lying face down on the floor, clothes completely soaked and arms covered with angry red scratches.
“Niichan! Kageyama-kun came!”
He groans in response. “Out of all people, you choose to call him,” he says, not moving an inch.
“Tch, that’s what you said after I came here all the way from my house?” Tobio crosses his arms, holding back the smile trying to creep onto his face.
“I heard you calling him your boyfriend the other day, so I thought you would prefer his help.”
Even though she isn’t looking at him, Tobio covers his flushed face with one hand, faking a cough. It makes him feel all fuzzy inside knowing Natsu accepted it so normally even before both of their parents know.
Hinata, instead, groans again. “Don’t tell mom, please?” Hinata raises his head, asking for confirmation, and when Natsu nods he smiles and gets up. “Let’s just catch Momo before she dies.”
“Um… and what is Momo?” Tobio asks, noticing the scratches aren’t only on his arms but he also has tiny ones on his face.
“My aunt’s cat,” Hinata replies, crouching to look beneath the couch. “We’re taking care of her while she and mom go to my cousin’s wedding, but for some reason she hates me.” There’s nothing there, so Hinata goes to the kitchen. “Natsu, could you go search in the garden?”
His sister is gone in a second, calling Momo’s name and making different cat noises. Hinata’s head appears around the kitchen’s door, and when he’s sure Natsu is gone, he gets closer to Tobio and hugs him. He can’t say it feels nice, mainly because Hinata is still wet and now soaking his clothes, but he appreciates the gesture, holding him close and resting his head on top of Hinata’s.
“I can’t believe there’s a living creature that doesn’t like you,” Tobio tells him.
“Well, believe it. That cat hates everyone but my aunt.” Hinata releases him and pecks his cheek gently.
“Why are you wet though? Cats and water don’t sound like a good idea.”
Hinata gestures him to follow and sighs. “Momo snuck out and when I found her she was covered in dirt and all of my mom’s flower pots were knocked over, so I tried to give her a bath…”
Tobio hums and watches Hinata open all the cabinets and drawers, as if a cat could open the doors on the top of the counter.
“How would a cat reach a cabinet over the counter?”
“I don’t know! But Momo is super smart and I swear she can.” Hinata closes the last cabinet door and frowns. “At least I’m doing something! You’re only standing there like an idiot!”
“Hey! You told me to come with you and I don’t think a cat—”
“Niichan! Kageyama-kun! I found her!” Natsu’s yell interrupts just in time.
Both of them rush out, following Natsu’s voice, and see her looking up at a tree outside of their house. Tobio lifts an eyebrow, he can’t see anything that can resemble a cat there. The only thing out of the ordinary is a rope hanging from one of the tallest branches.
“Great.” Hinata mutters, standing beside his sister and looking up.
Tobio still can’t see Momo, but the siblings seem to think they have found her.
“Natsu go grab a towel, I’m getting a ladder. Kageyama keep an eye on that cat.”
“Wait!” Tobio calls, but they’re gone. He looks up, but still can only see the rope in the tree. Could… the cat be attached to the rope? That doesn’t sound really smart, but Natsu mentioned a rope earlier on the phone. Slowly, Kageyama raises his hand and takes the rope, hesitating for a moment. He hopes this isn’t a bad idea.
He pulls it down, and to his surprise there’s little resistance, which doesn’t match the force he used. A loud hiss comes from the tree and in a second there’s a very angry mop falling toward his face.
“Fuck!” Tobio barely has time to step back. The cat hisses as her claws dig into Tobio’s sleeves, and he notices the rope tied around her middle, along with the long strands of wet hair that makes it look like those crazy cartoon cats. He tries to push her away from him, but she only digs her claws deeper into Tobio’s arm.
“Niichan! Kageyama-kun pulled Momo down!” Natsu cheers, running to him with a towel in one of her hands. She throws it over the cat, who only hisses louder, and tries to pull, but to no avail. “I think she’s stuck.”
Tobio holds his sarcastic reply, shaking his arm so Momo stops digging further into his skin. He only achieves the opposite.
“Kageyama! Come inside before she escapes again!” Hinata shouts from somewhere inside the house.
Tobio tries one last time to pull the cat with the rope attached to her, but after only making her meow angrily, he gives up.
Once they get inside, Hinata starts drying the cat with the towel and at the same time tries to free Tobio from her claws. Slowly, and only after she’s a ball of fluffy hair again without a rope holding her, Momo releases Tobio’s shirt and runs away, hopping on a table and sitting there, watching them all.
“Stupid cat,” Hinata sticks his tongue out at her. “Are you okay?” He asks, watching Tobio roll up his sleeve to reveal several red scratches on his arm.
“Yeah, I’m kind of used to cat scratches,” Tobio admits, and when Hinata he punches him on the arm.
“Alright, I’m going to take a shower. Keep an eye on her while I’m gone.”
Tobio glances to Momo, who continues staring at him with suspicious eyes, and then at Natsu who’s watching anime on the TV. Deciding to join the one without the murderous glare, he approaches Natsu.
The anime is boring though, so he gets distracted with his phone until something tugs his pants and the fluffy ball sits on his lap. Eyes growing big, Tobio raises his arms and scoots over, hoping her plan isn’t to scratch him. To his surprise, Momo meows and gets closer, sitting on his lap again.
“Momo likes you!” Natsu says, trying to pet her but thinking against it when she hisses.
As soon as Natsu’s hand retreats, she lays on Tobio’s legs.
“This… is weird.”
“Maybe she felt you didn’t want anything to do with her and so she wanted your attention.” Natsu goes back to her show and doesn’t try to pet Momo again.
Tobio freezes. Not used to animals being comfortable around him, he doesn’t know what to do exactly. Momo rests her head on his thigh and stays quiet.
Nothing else is said until Hinata comes back, hair damp but dry everywhere else.
“Natsu, the bath is free.” He stops as soon as he catches sight of Tobio’s rigid back and tense shoulders. “Oi, what happened?”
“The cat…”
“Mh?” His mouth hangs open when he notices Momo resting on him. “How did you do that?! I have been trying to get her to like me all day and you just come and pull her down from a tree and now she likes you?!”
“Maybe Momo likes him because of the same reason you do,” Natsu giggles and rushes out of the room.
“You! Shut up!” Hinata yells at his sister before turning to the cat. “Dumb cat.” He sits beside Tobio, crossing his arms.
While Hinata grumbles Tobio watches her. Even if his legs feel numb he doesn’t want to move for fear of her running, or pet her because she may not like it and escape too.
“--And I like you for a lot of reasons cats don’t understand, like right now! You’re making this happy conflicted face that’s so cute!”
Momo’s ear twitches and Tobio can’t bear it anymore, his hand moves slowly until his fingers brush the soft spot over her head, making her look up. Tobio stops.
“Ugh, and you’re so stupid but so careful when you care--”
Momo meows but otherwise doesn’t move, so Tobio slides his hand carefully over her head and back.
“I don’t even know why I’m telling you this, you’re ignoring me anyway.”
“I heard every word,” Tobio says, scratching Momo behind her ear but turning his head to Hinata. “I like you because you understand me better than anybody else.”
A blush spreads all over Hinata’s face, hands covering his eyes and leaning into Tobio’s shoulder.
“Your looks are scary sometimes but you can be super soft if given the chance,” he mutters. “Like right now…”
Tobio smiles, moving his hands to Hinata’s cheeks, and lifts his head. He kisses him on the lips, several times, just because he can. Hinata doesn’t seem to like it like that, because he holds Tobio by the back of his head, keeping their lips connected.
Momo disappears at some point, because when Tobio moves he doesn’t feel weight against his legs, so he coaxes Hinata into his lap.
Tobio may like that finally an animal finally accepts him, but he likes Hinata a whole lot more, and right now there’s nothing he would prefer more than kissing his boyfriend.
