Its interesting how i see more and more things like these relating to artists. I think the main problem is the whole “artist” mindset. Thinking that if you dont put 100+ hours a week of work you ll never be amazing at it and that if you dont feel like you re dying everyday then you re not doing it correctly.

I remember I used to pull all nighters constantly and it got to a point where it started affecting me psychologically. I was having 5 to 10 panick attacks a day and had to go to the ER constantly cause i thought i was dying after a couple months it got the point where i was afraid to leave the house.

Its great if you wanna be great at doing art and you wanna live from it but you have so much time to do that it doesnt have to be now now. And the crazy thing is that you might say “Sure, I ll overwork for the first 10 or 15 years of professional my life and then i ll be so famous and or great at it that I wont have to overwork anymore” but noppe ... its like a drug, you just wanna keep doing it.

I signed on Twitter to post some art but got hit with this news instead. Sharing as a reminder to all of you (and myself) to please take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, eat well, etc. It can be really hard to do at times when our work culture guilts and punishes us for resting while at the same time giving us inhumane work loads. But please be mindful of it. Take care of your physical and mental wellbeing first and foremost.

You should check out Welcome to My Life by Elizabeth Ito! It’s a Cartoon Network short that was just released and it has garnered quite a bit of totally deserved critical praise. It’s like a warm blanket you just wanna wrap yourself up in. I love it!
