Tag yourself as types of academia aesthetics I’ve seen
all songs can be found in my dark academia playlist here
Classic: ‘Instant Coffee’ by Bugs
organised desks glazed in a warm hue, chewing on the plastic cap on your pens, creating revision notes that look like art work, mugs of warm beverages embellishing your window sill, blanking out the world by a wall of study playlists, caramel glittered mornings or velvet wrapped nights
Dark: ‘Achilles Come Down’ by Gang of Youths
falling in love with the dark shadows that fall into the creases of the book shop, stinging liquid from opal bottles, adorning your body in shades of check and cream, desperate kisses exploding sparks in the obsidian, drowning nights spent scribbling your thoughts
Light: ‘Rosie’ by The Kooks
wildflowers pressed between browned books, soaking in poetry under the lukewarm sunlight, sweet cups of tea comforting your throat, bathing in shades of pastel and neutral, oversized glasses and drowning sweaters, organising your studying time in floral planners
Nature: ‘Freedom’ by Teddy Hyde
adorning your body in shades of the earth, completing essays encouraged by insects and birds, admiring the shades of the leaves and tree trunks, bedrooms drowning in ivy explorers, botanical posters converting your walls into a museum, naming every insect you meet
City: ‘Sugar’ by The Hails
losing your balance on the cobbled stones that line the streets, studying in public libraries surrounded by tiresome students, falling in love with the old fashioned building unloved along a back street, catching your reflection in the makeshift mirrors that embellish the pavement
Witchy: ‘Work Song’ by Hozier
working under the sprinkling of silver that dusts the midnight skies, absentmindedly stroking your cat as you work, splotches of obsidian ink creating abstract monsters on your page, working under the embers of candlelight, wisps of ghosts ballroom dancing in the smoke
#HELLO I HAVE NOT USED STUDYBLR IN MONTHS (YEARS?) BUT I STILL FOLLOW A LOT OF STUDYBLR BLOGS#and i HAD to reblog this because i once spent like a year listening to Instant Coffee on repeat#and working in the SPECIFIC cafe depicted here#it is probably the place i have worked most in my life#one of the managers gave me a free brownie when i finished my fourth year???#tAke ME BACK

90 Days of Productivity: Day 54/90
From this seat in the library I can almost pretend I’m outside...
Cosmology is a challenge but today’s been another one that’s been vaguely productive, despite a not-quite-planned trip to the hospital this morning. I went through some notes on ocean currents, reviewed this cosmology, and went to a tutorial on our most recent Galaxies problem sheet.

90 Days of Productivity: Day oops/90
Day... 53, I think.
Well, some weeks you kind of just fall off the bandwagon and that’s okay. Here’s a reintroduction in the form of a minor-to-moderate explosion in a mildliner factory, aka my record of which topics have come up in which papers. I’ve kept a couple blank as papers I’d like to try as unseen mock exams - the ones with the stars indicate how many actually have answers, or will be covered in a tutorial.
Exams are really starting to loom now, but with only one more problem sheet to go I’m feeling okay about starting phase 1 of revision over the next week or so!
Today was really nice and productive - I had two lectures, went for a run, did all my laundry and filled in some forms I’d been putting off, as well as going through all those past papers and starting revision plans for the next two weeks. Let’s go!

90 Days of Productivity: Days 29-31
Mild heatwave in the UK has meant studying outside. The stellar astrophysics lectures are marginally less painful when attempted in sunshine. Even though the lecturer is still kind of terrible and the recordings I’m watching back are of questionable quality (I really should have just gone at the time...), we are getting on to some cool stuff now - all pulsars and black holes and x-ray binaries. It’s pretty exciting to learn about!
I’ve also started making quizlets for my other module now. I love those because it’s one of those things you can just do when you have a spare 5-10 minutes on your phone and god knows I usually spend it scrolling through tumblr or facebook when I have nothing new to see on it. I also just realised that exams will be over in exactly 2 months from today, so it is very much time to knuckle down and really get in that revision headspace...

2/4/19: 56/100 days of productivity

Someone once said to me “I don’t understand how people use multiple colours in their revision.”
Can’t relate.

90 Days of Productivity: Days 27-28
Binary systems notes, complete with messy tiny annotations, copious tippex, and some mildliner highlighting. They’re really not as complicated as this looks, but our lecturer was not great at explaining these.
Day 27 (yesterday):
went for a run
packed to go home and travelled home
went to the theatre and for dinner
Day 28 (today):
went clothes shopping (GOD i hate clothes shopping, but I really needed new jeans...)
actually worked through these binary notes even though I’d been desperately putting it off
started sorting one of the Two Big Exec Handover presents, which is a relief
Later I’m hoping to move on to doing some more notes on stars. It might involve actually having to re-watch lectures that I missed last term... Not particularly looking forward to that tbh!

90 Days of Productivity: Days 24-26
The last few days have been busy but fairly productive. There’s nothing more satisfying than managing to fit a sensible amount of work around other plans!
Pictured: messy af desk on Saturday, and stuff getting real when I printed off my declaration of authorship for my masters report this morning...
On Saturday I managed to finally finish off reviewing my cloud physics notes, which means that all my notes from the first term of this year are OFFICIALLY DONE. Can’t say the same about the second term, but we’ll get there... I’m actually most of the way through Atmospheric Physics notes (just about 6 lectures left to complete) but Astrophysics is taking a bit longer thanks to the complete and utter lack of structure in the Advanced Stellar Astro lectures. However, I’ve actually managed to get started on those in the last few days as well, and I’ve been sorting out the last few bits of my report which is VERY VERY NEARLY DONE yay.
It’s definitely a little scary that this is now almost a third of the way through these 90 days of productivity. Though I did get my exam timetable through, and the actual dates of my exams are a day later than I expected - the Tuesday and Thursday of the last week, rather than Monday and Wednesday. Also not in the order I expected. I guess it’s 91 days of productivity now? And it does mean that I finish my exams an hour after the third years, which is nice!

90 Days of Productivity: Days 21-23
Finally getting back on track has been wonderful. I’ve spent the last couple of days really starting to dig in to my work (plus a cheeky exploration of oxford as per the last reblog). It’s been so sunny recently and the college library is quite an aesthetic place to work.
To ease myself back into the Hard Work vibes, I made some edits to my project report (turns out my most recent set of feedback isn’t h u g e l y negative, just would require some extra work which is currently a bit tricky since the data I was working on appears to have disappeared... and now needs to be downloaded again...) and then got into reviewing my basic geophysical fluid dynamics notes. It was the best section of the lecture course, so going through it again is just really fun and interesting!
Today I’ve been making some edits to the graphics of my report. I’ll probably start going through some cloud physics notes this afternoon, and maybe even start tackling stellar astrophysics (it’s interesting, but honestly I’ve been putting it off since our lecturer was so bad and the course is so confusingly structured...)

exploring Oxford is the BEST!!! I love sunny days outside of term time ☀️☺️☀️☺️☀️

11/04/2019
me and @frandoesphysicss took advantage of the rare sunny weather and our bod cards* for once and went to look around magdalen yesterday aftenoon! it’s super pretty in there, and the old library was coincidentally open for an exhibition. i definitely want to get inside some more colleges while i still can (for free), so that’s the plan for some free days next term.
work wise - i finally finished my condensed matter notes today, and i’m pushing through problem sheets. aiming to get onto revision asap, because exam timetables have been released and aaaaaaaaaa (also they’ve moved my exams closer together ugh)

90 Days of Productivity: Days 12-20 (oof...)
So we’re back after something of a chaotic week and a half. What with moving back to uni and nationals, it’s been pretty stressful but I’ve still managed to try to stay productive on most days even if it hasn’t necessarily been work-related.
Here’s an update on everything I’ve done since! It’s kinda long so under the cut.
Day 12 (1/4):
Went to visit a friend
Went for a run and broke my 3k time record (again!) which was nice
Made a really cool playlist (not sure if this really counts as productive but I’ve been listening to it a lot and it’s a very cute form of self-care for me)
Day 13 (2/4):
Finally finished making edits to my second draft of my report and sent it to supervisor no. 2
Packed everything up and travelled back to Oxford
Tidied up my room and unpacked when I got back
Met up with a friend for a walk and dinner
Day 14 (3/4):
Finished reviewing 6 lectures worth of High Energy Astrophysics notes
Managed to sort some washing for the upcoming tournament
Sorted out my toiletries cupboard (see above picture)
Had our semi-regular D&D session in the evening
Day 15 (4/4):
Went into the department, mostly for the regular pub lunch but hey it was pretty great so
Wrote up the last bits of lecture notes for high-energy astrophysics - I am now OFFICIALLY up to date on all of Term 1′s astro notes! (let’s not think about Term 2 yet...)
Spent some time trying to sort web hosting for a society website
Met up with an old friend who was in town in the evening and went to the pub with the s q u a d
Day 16 (5/4):
Packed everything for the weekend’s tournament
Actually spent some time designing the new website (would highly recommend Google Sites if you want something very basic but slick, though there is very limited customisation)
Started travelling to that tournament (snapshot of Google Maps journey pictured above .... it was far and I was chief navigator for the way up)
Days 17-19 (6-8/4):
I can’t pretend I did anything productive at this time I was at a sports tournament. I had originally planned to get some quizlets done so I could revise between matches but I didn’t have time during the week, so I ended up being pretty unproductive in all my downtime.
Even once I’d got back on Monday all I managed to do was fix my computer (which had slowed down dramatically for some reason) and meet up with a friend
Day 20 (9/4):
Yesterday I actually published that new society website after cleaning it all up and making it look pretty
I also did laundry from the weekend which was a bit of a mammoth task (so much mud.....) and organised myself for the rest of the week!
Also did a cheeky 5k run and managed to get another PR.
Day 21 (10/4):
And that brings us to today! Let’s see how it goes. I’m hoping to get a bit more productive this week and catch up with everything I’ve missed!

31/03/2019
april bullet journal theme: dots! i just got the newest set of mildliners a few weeks ago and it’s possibly my favourite pack, all the colours are just so pretty, and i wanted to just do a colourful theme so i could look at them all month.
work has been a mixed bag, i was finally getting properly settled into my routine in oxford and getting better at putting in full days of work and then i’ve had to come home for a few weeks for mothers’ day/what would usually be my easter vac and that’s massively disrupted everything, plus before that i had a grim cold… i’m about halfway through all the problem sheets and i definitely want to get a move on and finish them fast because exams are feeling pretty close now and i want to start proper revision :/

90 Days of Productivity: Days 10-11
Some weekends it’s hard to focus and be as productive as you need to be. There can be a lot of pressure from various different angles! Maybe I didn’t quite get an enormous amount of work done this weekend, but I was aware that would be the case, and I’m still proud of how I’ve done. In tough times it’s important to take some time for self-care, too!
I managed that this weekend by (a) going for a run on an absolutely beautiful Saturday morning (which ended up being my fastest 3k for a while, even though it was much warmer than usual!) and (b) starting to read this book [Stories of Your Life and Others - Ted Chiang]. It’s a collection of short sci-fi-ish stories and was recommended to me by a friend in December. I’m absolutely loving it!
And beyond all that I finally made all the edits to the LaTeX document of my MPhys report. One more proofread tomorrow morning to check for any silly grammar/number mistakes and I’ll be ready to send it off to supervisor no. 2 (who is notoriously picky about everything from staples to number-unit spacings - hopefully he’ll give some productive feedback!)
