trying to synthesize the papers so that I'll be prepared to talk about all 4 at the next group meeting... it'll be my first group meeting with this research group so I'm a little nervous but I feel pretty prepared

[6/8/24] i got a result for my calculations,,,, but at what cost? Mathematica was being mean to me so i ended up graphing it on desmos instead which told me that my code wasn’t wrong,,,, i just didn’t expect the results! anyway, idk what to tell my prof bc i got this far without having the faintest clue abt what quantum mechanics is!
i did find a cool new study nook in one of my favourite buildings tho. might abandon my office in its favour

today is a study day (fortunately or regrettably depending on your perspective). this problem set is really cool and i actually like learning about circuits, which i didn’t expect.
- circuits problem set (88 mins)
- circuits quiz (39 mins)
- advanced circuits lecture
i’m REALLY behind in my course and i need to catch up by the time school starts again so i probably have another 4 hrs of work minimum. it’s finally feeling like crunch time lol

slow day consisting of hanging out with ollie, radiative collapse of a classical atom (prep for next semester), and avo egg toast 🤤 oh, and a juicy 100 on my final circuits project! i honestly was expecting something much lower, but i’m so, so grateful. the hard work of the past few weeks paid off :)

you give me the answers i have always searched for. you give me purpose. and even when i don’t understand you, even when you frustrate me with paradoxes and uncertainties, i know i could never walk away.
so here i am, physics—forever yours, forever in awe.

A new semester is starting for me soon (and possibly my last with actual classes), and I like to list out my goals beforehand, even if I don't end up achieving them. It's nice to have some goal post to follow, so that way I can at least be heading in the right direction. In no particular order or theme:
Exercise 4 days a week.
Do something creative each day (hard, since science takes a lot of creative juices, I'm not left with a lot at the end of the day). Might be playing an instrument, drawing, painting, etc.
Replace daily coffee with daily tea (coffee can still be a little treat)
Get outside each day.
Implement more color into my life.
Journal at least once a week.

Ok now this was really realistic.
The sun rays came and reflected through the aquarium and formed 7 prominent and different colours of light.
This really left me shocked!

first week of grad school finished! I started combining my lectures and notes from the textbook for statistical mechanics (hoping maybe it'll turn into a habit). not sure I'll do it for quantum or just do a bunch of practice problems. also trying to go on walks 4-5x a week hence the picture of the train tracks.

[18/11/24] hey guys, sorry it's been a while. just had some things going on, but hopefully now im back!
grad apps and research and studies still exist. im horribly behind in two of my classes, but im just sleepy. all the time. this is such a pretty place to study, but i hardly get anything done here because of that. ugh. this is the week i get my shit together.
the horrors persist, but so must we.

Day 9/40 of productivity
These few days have been characterised by exercises all the way!
Among these, those that I spent in the library have been the best days so far. I don’t like weekends much because campus is closed and it feels boring to stay at home.
Highlights:
I’ve met some people during study breaks
I tried out the university canteen
I’m really motivated to achieve my goals💪🏽
ps. at one point, I couldn’t find the pizza box anymore; it had ended up under my books… 🤦🏽‍♀️

The Soul Nebula taken by Kurt Wallberg on Februrary 1 2024
This image depicts The Soul Nebula (IC 1848) on the left and Westhout 5 (IC 1848) on the right. Westhout 5 is part of the bigger Soul Nebula. It’s an emission nebula— consisting of the star forming regions with ionized hydrogen gas and dark nebula. Dark nebulas are when the stellar medium is so dense that the light from objects behind it cannot pass through.
As you can see in the image, there are cavities in the gas. These were carved out by stars due to radiation and stellar winds. There is a theory of triggered star formation, which describes that these cavities compress the gas around it to trigger star formation. Images such as these have been used to help prove this theory, showing that the closer the star is to the cavity, the younger it is.
