what happens if he shatters that soul jam, windy. quit trying to help. fight him, you coward. you're not worthy of what used to be the soul jam of courage. something something loyalty taken as loyalty to a decision, loyalty to a moral standing. wind archer cookie will not take a life, rather he will do whatever he can to purify a life he went in guns blazing and then came to the HORRIFYING reality that, no, this beast is a cookie just like him. this beast is a tormented soul. he will not stray from his plan, but he will take a risk. he will lean into an impulse; the desire to bring light to a cookie swallowed by the dark. he will not let infernal spirit harm more cookies than he already has, but he will not harm infernal spirit more than he's already been harmed.

(wind archer's later refusal to FULLY harm infernal spirit is not cowardice, but rather courage and loyalty. he is facing this beast head-on and choosing to lend him his hand- and infernal spirit, who has only ever known courage as a war-torn and battle-ready thing, is furious because THIS?? this is who got his soul jam?? what a joke)

infernal spirit thinks the witches are laughing at him about this one, because there's no way this isn't some kind of cruel mockery. he fought their battles, he defended earthbread and taught others the courage to defend it too and this is the cookie they give his soul jam to? someone that won't even stand up to defend himself? he is the ever burning rage of flame itself and all wind archer sees is a light crushed by dark, a light that can blaze as brightly as it did once more. and infernal spirit hates it. how dare you look at him like that, with that much pity. he doesn't need your sympathy, and he doesn't need your help either. y'know what'd really help him? surrendering that soul jam.
