Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

where does the line draw for you in cultural appropriation vs cultral appreciation? saw the guy from the new co-ed group getting prematurely cancelled (which i obviously support, being a natural hater) but i understand the line for appropriate vs not is murky.

recent example i saw being supported:

creepy nuts new song is apparently very afrobeats coded, but i haven't seen any criticism about it (more jokes about japanese/african fusion)

recent example i saw being discouraged:

the black label's tarrzan (which is already an eyebrow raising name imho) consistently wears braids in his hair (ppl tried to defend him by saying he was blasian)

imho it does make me feel a bit dissapointed to see, although it's not a major offense. like an apology, change and moving on would be fine with me. although it would be way more interesting if he was kicked out (interesting precedent).

i think the main problem with season two is that they keep changing the characters to fit the narrative and not the other way around. for some characters this isn't all that bad (dina and tommy) but for others (jesse, ellie, abby) it just lowkey pisses me off. you have this great (imperfect but still) narrative about revenge and cycles whatever that works for these characters, but you've changed the characters so much the story you're trying to tell doesn't work as well.

literally loved how they did not give us time to process Jesse's death and that Abby scene before throwing us back to when Abby's story "starts" and giving us Danny- Manny content like hello? I appreciate it but hellou???

i think one of my main problems with the latter half of the show is that i thought we were finally getting a linear storyline (which i wanted, even if ik it's not really the point) and with the show explaining to us why abby became the way she is, i thought that was the case. but then the show returns to the ellie show, and all the abby scenes were just for no reason, since abby gets 0 screen time till the final scenes of the show. like even isaac is here (?) ig i'm just confused. give us the ellie show if you want (i do like her) but why show isaac. like ellie does not care or know isaac, so why should we? one of my main problems with the game is that they make it too hard to sypathise with abby since we don't see her point of view until the game is like halfway done with ellie. so why not make the storyline more equal .
